ah, ok. what it doesn't show is the perfect livershot that Magee iced him with. absolute beauty. the furthest thing I've seen to a lucky punch.Kaaspeer wrote:His resume shows that he was a far better boxer than many think. You think Magee could do the same to a prime Rudy who was still young and hungry?Counter-puncher wrote:ah, ok. what it doesn't show is the perfect livershot that Magee iced him with. absolute beauty. the furthest thing I've seen to a lucky punch.Kaaspeer wrote:His resume shows that he was a far better boxer than many think. Rudy seems to have quite a few haters, but that is usually a sign of quality.

Magee was hardly in the first flushes of youth himself, now, was he?Kaaspeer wrote:

No it's not.Kaaspeer wrote:Rudy seems to have quite a few haters, but that is usually a sign of quality.
If you weren't here nobody would be talking about Rudy, they never did before you.
Rudy has one delusional fan trying to pump him up, zero haters and a bunch of people who see reality when talking about him.

His record is surprisingly thin. Haussler was his only significant win really, a German who was fringe Euro class at his peak.

You don't count beating Sven Ottke as his best win? What fight were you watching, lol? Besides, look how he always took on guys with 0 or 1 losses.polecateddy wrote:His record is surprisingly thin. Haussler was his only significant win really, a German who was fringe Euro class at his peak.

Ali Raymi is 21-0 with 21 first-round knockouts and has NEVER fought anyone with a loss on his record. That's who you oughta be talking about!

Rudy's weakest opponent is better than Ali Raymi's best opponent.giacomino wrote:Ali Raymi is 21-0 with 21 first-round knockouts and has NEVER fought anyone with a loss on his record. That's who you oughta be talking about!

Mention 10 168 lb fighters today who would be able to beat prime Rudy. You can't find many.

Ward
Andre Dirrell
Anthony Dirrell
Degale
Groves
Kessler
Chavez Jr
Abraham
Stieglitz
Rudy was a good fighter no doubt but he was European level at best. Many people got 'robbed' against Ottke, even David Starie.

Re: Rudy Markussen, Underrated Scandinavian
I agree with you on Froch, Ward, Andre Dirrell and Kessler... But Stieglitz, Chavez, Groves, DeGale and Anthony, come on, man, they wouldn't stand a chance. Rudy would probably stop them within 10 rounds (except Chavez, whom Rudy would outpoint). Abraham vs. Markussen would be interesting, though, I'm leaning 65% toward Markussen, 35% toward Abraham. The Law wrote:FrochKaaspeer wrote:Mention 10 168 lb fighters today who would be able to beat prime Rudy. James Cook and Herol Graham can be thrown in the mix. Sugar Boy Malinga would have boxed him silly! As would have Woodhall. The list is literally endless.Kaaspeer wrote:Mention 10 168 lb fighters today who would be able to beat prime Rudy. You can't find many.
Re: Rudy Markussen, Underrated Scandinavian
I totally disagree with you. In fact 8 out of the 10 guys mentioned would even beat Abraham in my opinion. Abraham is a shell of his former self, nevertheless a peak Abraham would have beaten Rudy. Anthony Dirrell is much better than his 2 recent performances suggest because he fought the wrong fight (despite winning the second fight with Bika).Kaaspeer wrote:I agree with you on Froch, Ward, Andre Dirrell and Kessler... Lets get back to the topic at hand. If anything your thread is rather ironic because you are over-rating Rudy. He was a good European level fighter and that's about it. There is nothing on Rudy's record or via his performances to suggest that he would have beaten the 10 guys I mentioned. His best chance would have been against Stieglitz. Rudy is no better than David Starie who was also a good fighter and got 'robbed' against Ottke. In fact Starie beat a future world champion (Clinton Woods) which is better than any win on Rudy's record.
However, you are entitled to your opinion

Don't forget that Rudy should have been the IBF champ (he got robbed against Ottke) and the WBA champ (he had lost his motivation to fight by now and Magee caught him with a lucky shot despite being dominated until it happened). You're not giving Rudy his deserved credit.

People make excuses against Rudy. Calzaghe never beat prime RJJ and Magee never beat prime Rudy Markussen.ikorolev wrote:Excuses, excuses ...Kaaspeer wrote: Don't forget that Rudy should have been the IBF champ (he got robbed against Ottke) and the WBA champ (he had lost his motivation to fight by now and Magee caught him with a lucky shot despite being dominated until it happened). Did mediocre Tatevosyan KO prime Rudy ?

Re: Rudy Markussen, Underrated Scandinavian
No, Rudy was injured in a traffic accident before that fight. He could barely move on his right leg and he could barely punch with his right hand. He had a bad night, anyone would in that situation.ikorolev wrote:Did mediocre Tatevosyan KO prime Rudy ?

There is something wrong with his head then if he gets into the ring when he can barely move his leg.Kaaspeer wrote:No, Rudy was injured in a traffic accident before that fight. Zero credit is the credit he deserves for that fight.Kaaspeer wrote:The Law wrote:

Rudy is just one of many that got robbed of a decision against Ottke. Ottke shouldn't have had the belt coming into that fight anyway. it should have belonged to Glen Johnson, Charles Brewer or one of the others that had a dubious decision go against them.
You're working very hard to give NOBODY else any credit for an Ottke decision but want Rudy to get credit for it.
There is no point in time where Rudy should have been IBF champion because the belt shouldn't have been available in that fight to begin with.
How about naming just one actual victory over a proven world class fighter?
You're doing a great job of making complete bullshit excuses for losing to people who were never all that good to begin with.
Where is the actual victory over someone who actually was good?
