Rudy Markussen, Underrated Scandinavian
Re: Rudy Markussen, Underrated Scandinavian
There is something wrong with his head, his trainers head, his managers head, the doctor who inspects the fighters before the bout and the promoters head. Either that or his leg etc were alright and he lost to a man fair and square? I've seen Rudy box and he is a strong fighter, good puncher and is aggressive and able. He will not win a world title, he is too basic; he seems a good man but he's not vastly underated.

Post a link to an actual credible source verifying this.Kaaspeer wrote:No, Rudy was injured in a traffic accident before that fight. That will be hard to find, it was not a big fight and happened many years ago. Find it yourself, if you're that curious. I thought you didn't care about Rudy Markussen?Perseus wrote:Post a link to an actual credible source verifying this.Kaaspeer wrote:No, Rudy was injured in a traffic accident before that fight. I remember watching the Magee fight and it bears no resemblance to your account of a landslide until Magee threw "a lucky punch" which shut down his liver.
What exactly is a lucky punch?? It sure looked like Magee aimed and threw an intended body shot to me.
Magee himself was 36yrs old at the time of the fight.
The fight was in Scandinavia.
The scorecards were even going into the 5th, at which point Magee was holding the centre of the ring moments before he threw the perfect counter punch which paralysed and KO'd Markussen.
Markussen had home advantage against an aging Euro level fighter and was beaten without controversy.
I don't see anybody underrating Markussen. In fact I am of the opinion that the only one person posting about him here on Boxrec is seriously overestimating him.

A politician threw the punch that knocked Rudy out?
Re: Rudy Markussen, Underrated Scandinavian
Politicians. mafia, aliens, forum posters and cab drivers from all over the universe had a plot to prevent Rudy from getting an ABC title.palooka wrote:A politician threw the punch that knocked Rudy out?

Exactly the response I expected.
You're full of crap and your response has proven it.
Just admit you made up that BS car accident story.
If it's out there it will not be hard to find and you would have already proven you're not full of crap by providing a link to it.
Don't worry about that though.
We're still waiting for you to name an actual victory over a world class fighter.

Re: Rudy Markussen, Underrated Scandinavian
Markussen's good but he's no Robin Reid
Re: Rudy Markussen, Underrated Scandinavian
I gave him the credit he deserves. He was a good fighter but was no better than David Starie who was also 'robbed' against Ottke. As stated earlier, Starie actually has a win on his record against a future world champ who was undefeated at the time (Clinton Woods) and this win is superior to anything on Rudy's record. Rudy was a good European level fighter at his peak.Kaaspeer wrote:The Law wrote:
I totally disagree with you. In fact 8 out of the 10 guys mentioned would even beat Abraham in my opinion. Abraham is a shell of his former self, nevertheless a peak Abraham would have beaten Rudy. Anthony Dirrell is much better than his 2 recent performances suggest because he fought the wrong fight (despite winning the second fight with Bika).
Lets get back to the topic at hand. If anything your thread is rather ironic because you are over-rating Rudy. He was a good European level fighter and that's about it. There is nothing on Rudy's record or via his performances to suggest that he would have beaten the 10 guys I mentioned. His best chance would have been against Stieglitz. Rudy is no better than David Starie who was also a good fighter and got 'robbed' against Ottke. In fact Starie beat a future world champion (Clinton Woods) which is better than any win on Rudy's record.
However, you are entitled to your opinion
Don't forget that Rudy should have been the IBF champ (he got robbed against Ottke) and the WBA champ (he had lost his motivation to fight by now and Magee caught him with a lucky shot despite being dominated until it happened). You're not giving Rudy his deserved credit.

Re: Rudy Markussen, Underrated Scandinavian
No, the judges gave Magee some rounds that he didn't deserve to get, as Rudy dominated him clearly in the first, second and fourth round. There were big business plans for Brian Magee, everyone knows that, that's also why they set him in against Kessler and always gave him big fights in the past too. That's also how he had money to start this project. You need to read some more before you talk, my friend, and you also need to see the fight. The judges were definitely not on Rudy's side that night, no matter what you think about stoppage.palooka wrote:A politician threw the punch that knocked Rudy out?
