Kell vs Khan
Re: Kell vs Khan
The whole "X will catch Khan and KO him" has an element of truth but its too simplistic. For a start it ignores Khan is an exceptional offensive fighter. He was doing a serious job on Garcia before the bingo punch and he's also floored Peterson and Maidana in the 1st round. It also ignores that Garcia is himself a serious KO artist. Is Brook?
Lastly, Brook is now Carl Froch himself - Senchenko shook him a couple of times and he didnt always look comfortable against Jones. I think its just as likely Khan can hurt Brook as the reverse.
Overall i think Khan is the pedigree fighter in this one.
Interesting fight lets hope it happens.

Alot of this post makes sense but to say Khan was doing a serious job on Garcia is ridiculous.Trojans44 wrote:The whole "X will catch Khan and KO him" has an element of truth but its too simplistic. He was throwing the same flurry of shots going in and out the same way and Garcia was getting his timing then boom.
Khan is a fighter who had he not been backed to the hilt by golden boy would be back at European level aiming for a title shot or getting used as a name on record domestically.
Re: Kell vs Khan
Yes, I think it's often overstated how thoroughly Khan was beating Garcia. He dominated the first two rounds, but Garcia was getting his timing down and doing fairly well by the third, landing some good punches and being competitive prior to the knockdown. Khan fights twelve round bouts, so dominating the first six minutes or so can still leave another thirty minutes for an opponent to suddenly catch him and/or figure him out generally.TJ77 wrote:Alot of this post makes sense but to say Khan was doing a serious job on Garcia is ridiculous.Trojans44 wrote:The whole "X will catch Khan and KO him" has an element of truth but its too simplistic. I watched the fight on HBO and the commentary was painfully biased in Khan's favor. They acted like it was a massacre even when Garcia was having success in the third.

Khan stood right in front of Garcia and was winging in uppercuts and hooks; thus leaving himself open for the monster left hook. He was in the process of throwing a right uppercut when Garcia caught him with the huge " don't even look at the target whilst throwing" left hook.
I'd pick the current more conservative, straight punching Khan over Garcia at this point in time. Kell would have his hands full but he's a much bigger puncher than Khan. I'd still favour Khan on points due to Kell's low workrate (Khan throws a lot) but I could easily see Kell scoring a come from behind KO.

Re: Kell vs Khan
Khan did what he always does. As said, offensively, he is good, speed to burn. Unfortunately, Danny worked him out.
Re: Kell vs Khan
Garcia did significantly better in the third even prior to the big left hook landing, and that he wasn't looking doesn't mean that it was a lucky or unintelligent shot (you didn't say this but many have). Fighters generally have predictable manners of attack and if someone has discerned what their opponent's is they may have a good idea of what is coming at them, and hence what openings there are and what counters to use, when they sense their opponent advancing even if they don't look at the target when attacking. It's clear from the video that Garcia looks at Khan when the latter starts punching, then looks away as he rotates to throw the hook: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOXJYhXoSGcKhan stood right in front of Garcia and was winging in uppercuts and hooks; thus leaving himself open for the monster left hook. Khan boxed well in his last bout but he looked poor shortly before that, I think Collazo is a significant step down from fighters like Garcia and Brook, and I question whether he can generally maintain an intelligent, conservative style at a high level. He is tremendously fast and can outbox virtually anyone in the world when he's on, but can he be on for long enough against the right opponents? Hopefully we'll see.

Without trying to downplay the result, Collazo was very poor against Khan, really disappointing performance. Difficult to judge how good Amir was considering Collazo spent most of his time standing on the ropes with his hands down.

I'd agree with that. Collazo is a counter-puncher yet against Khan he was coming in, in straight lines with no head movement and his hands down. Very poor performance.

i think that's because, like Kotelnik, Khan's style and movement pretty much forced Collazo to fight in a way that didn't suit himblack panther wrote:Boxerbeetle123 wrote:Without trying to downplay the result, Collazo was very poor against Khan, really disappointing performance. Re: Kell vs Khan
ive never considered khan a great 'boxer'. He just tends to be so much faster than his opponent in a lot of cases that they get hit with shots purely because he's so damn quick.crusader wrote:Garcia did significantly better in the third even prior to the big left hook landing, and that he wasn't looking doesn't mean that it was a lucky or unintelligent shot (you didn't say this but many have). Re: Kell vs Khan
If it were just down to sheer speed he'd be found out late in a fight when speed tends to fade. I grant he's not got the sharpest boxing brain but he's far from a fool with fast hands.
Re: Kell vs Khan
Brook is a big welter and Khan is really moving up in weight. If this fight happens I will bet heavily on Brook...and I rarely gamble.

Collazo didn't turn in the performance I expected that's for sure. I thought he was past it to be honest. Saying that at the time would've looked like big time sour grapes but I was pretty sure that wasn't the same guy that beat Hatton and gave Mosley something to think about.black panther wrote:Boxerbeetle123 wrote:Without trying to downplay the result, Collazo was very poor against Khan, really disappointing performance. His boxing skills aren't commensurate with his speed, but the latter allows him to hit and move away without being hit fairly well.columbo wrote:ive never considered khan a great 'boxer'. Why do people act as though Brook is the only one who brings firepower to this fight?
His chin has barely been tested, and its not because he is willie pep reincarnated. Khan will land and land often, especially downstairs. What have you seen from Brook that proves he can take what Khan has?

because every time Khan fights anyone who's scored a KO any time since the turn of the millenium, thats all some people can think aboutlefthook82 wrote:Why do people act as though Brook is the only one who brings firepower to this fight?
Re: Kell vs Khan
Khan definietly isnt a puncher. The stoppages he does get tend to be from sheer volume more than anything else.

Yep, when was the last time Khan stopped someone? At world level, I can only think of Malignaggi off the top of my head, that was definitely through accumulation.
Even when he was being built up, I can't remember Amir scoring any 1/2 punch ko's. Nothing to suggest Brook would have trouble with Khan's power, although obviously we can't know for sure at this point.

Khan hits very hard, he just never, eeeeeeeeeeever (in a Y2J kind've voice) sits down on shots.columbo wrote:Khan definietly isnt a puncher. The stoppages he does get tend to be from sheer volume more than anything else.
He had maidana and judah in agony. If he sat down and calmed down a little more i think he'd have had less chance of getting KO'd also, he's like a puppy on ecstasy sometimes when he fights.
Re: Kell vs Khan
I'l have to disagree with you on this one mate. He works well to the body hence the droppage of Maidana and Judah but I dont feel you have to be that big of a puncher to drop people with body shots. A comparison for me in regards to Maidana would be when he fought Victor Ortiz. Ortiz dropped him 3 times with head shots if memory serves me correct and one or two of them were heavy aswell whereas Khan never really looked like putting Maidana on the canvas with headshots alone. I'm sure someone will tell me im wrong in regards to it being easier to put people down with body shots though vs head shots.Yes We Can wrote:Khan hits very hard, he just never, eeeeeeeeeeever (in a Y2J kind've voice) sits down on shots.columbo wrote:Khan definietly isnt a puncher. there's an extent to which a 'non-puncher' can find it easier to hurt a bloke to the body than he does with head shots, yes.

but then thats also dependent on how well the recipient takes a bodyshot
