Lennox Lewis v Larry Holmes

Post by thunderfromdownunder »

i rate both these fighters in the top ten greatest heavyweights, and in that top ten this is the most even fight that i think could happen. Lennox had good power, stamina and a pretty good jab, while larry has argubally the best jab ever and was one of the mosst skilfull heavyweight i have ever seen. i really dont know who would win this fight...
what do you all think?

Holmes KO9 Lewis

Very competitive at first, turns into an absolute beatdown.

I think Holmes has some difficulty early on with Lewis, becaue of his size and reach. I aslo think Lewis has a much mroe powerful punch than Larry. Holmes had the chin though and I can see him getting his jab working and raising the apce of the fight, which Lennox wouldn't like. Holmes weeps up the final 3 rounds and either Lewis drops from exhaustion and the accumulation of punches or loses the 15 round decision.

hard to say. Holmes had fits against longer reaches, particularly Carl The Truth Williams. Lewis was troubled by excellent jabs, like Mercer and Bruno.

Holmes boxes to an easy win. I could see Holmes stopping Lewis.

While Larry's jabbing, Lewis would be throwing that monster over-hand right of his and making Larry pay all fight long.

3 round KO? Pretty Optimistic. But I'll make it unanimous here. Holmes by Decision or late round tko. Probably decision, I think Larry would respect his power and play it safe to a sure win.

Homes KO 9/10

Holmes isnt the hardest of punchers but his jab and the right behind it really packed a punch and I doubt Lewis can take them very often.

Holmes by late TKO after busting up Lewis real bad.

Holmes proved he was a class above Ray Mercer, and if a fat Mercer could give Lewis hell with the jab, a prime Holmes, with his handspeed, stamina, and strength would dominate.

2 different boxers, 2 different styles.

holmes by wide UD, i will say this....... holmes better not get overconifdent or lazy and drop his left like he does on many occasions because lennox will crash that right into holmes. holmes throughout his career got hit with right hands and thats my only fear here, but im confident holmes takes lennox to school and gives him a boxing lesson for 15 rounds, if lennox lasts that long.
lennox was predictable, holmes had trouble with ackward guys.

2 different Ray Mercers, there was definitely an improvement in the one that gave Evander and Lennox hell

Holmes would have a very hard time here. he'd have to stand in front of lewis to get his distance. it's all very well doing that to Cooney, who only has a left hook. But a prime lewis has a solid repertoire. With all that weight Larry puts in his jab, Lewis can counter with the right. If they exchange in close, Lewis' hooks/uppercuts cancel out Larry's shots, who slapped a bit inside. Winnable fight for Lewis, due to the style matchup.

Holmes by decision, probably something like 10-5. Obviously Lewis would have a puncher's chance, but the most likely scenario is Holmes by decision. Proboably wouldn't be a very exciting fight to watch.

wow...it seems holmes is an overwhelming favorite.
im sorry but i cant see Holmes scoring a knockout in 3 rounds, if anyones getting stopped here its larry, having said that i would probaly lean toward him to win a close decision.
