Why are fans on forums so negative?

Post by Boxing Prospect »

Maybe it's just me but it seems everyone is negative on here trying to put a downer on everything and everyone in the sport rather than looking at those moments of magic and joy and focussing on them. It seems fans would prefer to talk about fights that aren't being made than the ones we do get, it seems we'd rather talk about people being pudenda out of the ring rather than them being hero's inside it, we seem to have more people claiming the sport is dying than seeing the new wave of exciting fighters breaking through...

...maybe It's just me but I'm really excited about the next few years. Sure there is some crap out there but there are also more things to be excited about than angry over...

Well said.

I'm very excited to see the next set of boxing superstars move in. We're in the presence of some great fighters currently, but they are aging. I'm interested to watch the new guard take over.

boxing has always had people who show up just to boo, probably more
than any other sport. there are a lot of positive comments on here, too.
not all criticism is bad, either. if you get fed a turd at a restaurant and
don't say anything about it and keep going there, guaranteed you will get
turds for breakfast lunch and dinner. comments on here run the gammit.
good bad and ugly

Its definitely not just you. Fans are too angry on this forum. And this is BY FAR the most peaceful boxing forum I have seen. I mean its hate in extreme everywhere else. BTW British/Irish forum section is pretty civilized.

Definitely one of them. I occasionally post on Boxing Scene and it's loaded with nonsensical bickering and insults.

Boxing Scene man, that is absolute hell. My prevailing feeling visiting that forum is that the entire humanity needs to be exterminated.

Forum users are extraordinarily aggressive about being negative, because their anonymity allows them to be unaccountable for their rudeness and/or extreme opinions, providing them with a false sense of bravado.
This & you can say this about the internet as a whole. YouTube which imho is one of the best things on the internet if you're trying to do anything from laugh to learn is one of the most randomly hateful places on the internet in their comment section. You'll watch a video of a cat falling off a bed & the third comment will be "f#cking homos are going to hell" & you're like wtf is the cat gay or wtf is this mfer even talking about.

I completely agree, and I generally avoid engaging on forums. I love boxing, and at times I am disappointed with some things but I ALWAYS admire all fighters for what they do.

Perhaps I'd be a little more positive if fights actually occurred. See: Fury, Ustinov, Chisora, Wlad, Pulev.

I know I'm weird, but I want fights to actually happen. :OhYes:

1. boxing is a pretty turgid sport these days. lots of tv and alphabet monopolies that make the game stagnate and encourage corruption and general mistrust.
2. fans were too bovine and unthinking in their take up of pay for view and Sky in particular from the late 90's, with the result that most shows are decreasing in entertainment value...especially undercards.

theres a lot to moan about.

as for Boxrec in particular. its a site that encourages nasty posts in its forums. or at least dsnt attempt to stop it.

take this analogy....Youtube has a culture of people posting offensive and stupid comments for no reason. whereas on a site like soundcloud it just isn't done and people would find negative comments bizarre and unwarranted.

I guess I must have imagined the Takayama/Rodriguez fight, Gonzalez/Yaegashi is happening right? Estrada/Segura is happening, right? Narvaez vs Orucuta II? Frampton/Martinez II?

If you don't like the bouts show your dislike by not watching, but then again most folk don't talk when the best guys fight each other anyway...

The problem seems to be far worse in the Heavyweight division.

I think it's casual boxing fans that are the worst at being very negative. People who understand a boxers lifestyle and how hard it is to make it in this sport wouldn't be so dismissive of fighters when they put a foot wrong.

Because fans pay to watch boxing and by being a consumer have the right to their opinions.

I am always someone who is very measured and thoughtful with my comments on here although when it comes to the British scene I am always shouting from the rooftops.

There are plenty on here watch on streams and still moan for what they watch for free.

I liked to complain about the birds singing in the morning or the colour of flowers.

-The internet -> anonymity -> people behaving like total fuckwads
-Some people on here are legitimate trolls
-Boxing fans are probably more belligerent and less intelligent than normal people on average
-People in general are pretty stupid to begin with
-Like with soccer, there's lots of racial / nationalistic biases among boxing fans
-Boxing fandom is basically another form of politics or gangs. Instead of the Republicans or Democrats or the bloods and crips, it's the Mayweathers and the Pacquiaos. Or, outside of welterweight discussions, it's the fanatics of African American fighters vs the fanatics of Caucasian Eastern European fighters. This is why some people are on Wilder's dick and other people are on Golovkin's dick. The people who are riding Deontay Wilder's and Gerald Washington's dicks now used to ride Seth Mitchell's and Amir Mansour's dicks. The people who are riding Golovkin's dick right now used to ride Bute's and Pirog's dicks.
