Johnny Nelson will defend his WBO cruiserweight title against big-hitter Enzo Maccarinelli on the big Joe Calzaghe vs Jeff Lacy bill. The battle between Britain's top two cruisers is the chief support on the Manchester bill on March 4. Nelson said: "He must realise that in my time I have mixed and dealt with a better, harder and more experienced class of opponent than he has ever faced, "I turned professional in 1986 and was fighting for a living whilst Enzo was still a snotty nosed 6-year-old playing in the garden with his Action Man!" Maccarinelli responded saying: "He has always backed off from fighting me and has come up with excuses that I'm not experienced enough and that he would knock me out but we will find out on the night. I've been ready to fight Nelson for the last two years and I know that I can knock him clean out."

Could turn out to be a good bill this one, both Nelson - Enzo & Joe - Jeff are both interesting fights which i feel could go either way

.

Also an Unbeaten American Super Middle called Chad Dawson is on the bill, anybody know anything about him ???

Lets hope a couple more good fights can be added to the bill

You really think so? personally, I think Lacy wipes the floor with JC and Nelson wins another snoozer.

Hmmm, depends how much Joe has left in the tank. At his best, i think he would have beaten Lacy who has some limitations.

You may be surprised to learn that most American pundits rate Calzaghe highly, and consider the fight with Lacy pretty even.

I have a feeling though that Calzaghe is in for a shock, as he hasn't beaten a really live body for a while now, and hasn't faced anyone dangerous since Mitchell..

great matchup - I'm a fan of nelson. being in with a puncher should bring the best out of him. no room for farting around, as with cantatore, who dropped him. Warren must be hoping that Nelson's a bit too far gone to avoid Macca's power for 12 rounds. Needs another star with Hatton's departure and the recent lacklustre fights on ITV & I'm sure he wants Enzo's power to improve his lot. otherwise i really will have to figure out how to get ITV4!

don't know if the Calzaghe fight will be that good. Lacy looks good vs old guys like Reid and Pemberton. Calzaghe doesn't seem to have thrown a good quality punch for a good year or two.

Thing is, Nelson can punch when he wants to. I think he would be advised to plant his a feet a bit and tag Macca. Macca's chin is carried high and he doesn't seem to hold a shot all that well.

Very pleased to see Nelson take this fight. Macca will be dangerous in the first 4 or 5 then I expect Johnny's conditioning to kick in. However Enzo is allot hungrier.

Lacey will look to make an example of Joe and if he is anything less than his best Left hook will...

Trouble is, I'm not sure how good Calzaghe's best is these days as he has been in with journeymen recently...

Enzo Maccarinelli cannot wait to finally step into the ring with Johnny Nelson on 4 March in Manchester.
The Swansea cruiserweight, 25, who holds the WBU title, will finally get a chance to enter the big league when he faces WBO king Nelson at the MEN Arena.

"I've been waiting for this fight for a long time and I'm just so chuffed it's happening now," Maccarinelli said.

"I did worry it wouldn't happen, but as I've worked my way into the number one (challenger) spot I knew it had to."

Nelson has seen off 13 previous challengers for his WBO belt since stopping Carl Thompson to take the title in March 1999.

But the Sheffield fighter will be 39 by the time he faces his young challenger and Maccarinelli is eager to dethrone a man he has the greatest respect for.

"Johnny is an entertainer and I quite like the guy, but unfortunately for him he's got something I really, really want and on March the 4th I will be taking it off him," Maccarinelli added.

The cruiserweight showdown will be the chief support to an equally mouth-watering fight at super middleweight between Joe Calzaghe and Jeff Lacy.

Calzaghe will put his WBO title on the line against the American's IBF belt in a clash between two undefeated fighters.

Although Maccarinelli would have liked to have fought on home soil in Wales, but is happy to line up alongside compatriot Calzaghe.

"I would have loved the fight to have been in Wales but it didn't bother me where, when, what time as long as it was happening, to be honest," Maccarinelli said.

"I've studied tapes of Johnny for a long time and I've got a couple of game plans on how to beat him.

"I've said for a long time I can beat him, he's been telling people he can knock me out in three rounds - so on March the 4th we'll find out which one is talking from his behind!"
