GREAT fights that might have slipped under the radar

Post by Ade L »

Hi folks

We all have our favourite fights - I think most of us would agree that Ward Gatti, Hearns Hagler, Holyfield Bowe etc. were pretty special but are there any great fights that don't seem to get talked about that much that you want to share?

I'm kicking things off with Clifford Etienne vs Lawrence Clay Bey.....

I couldn't even tell you how many epic club fights I have seen in the last 5 decades.
They never got press clips. They did not have espn raving about them and They were awesome.
It does not take 2 big name fighters to make for an entertaining battle.

Props on the Chang/Kittikassem mention. Shocked nobody has brought up Lee/LoCicero. I thought that had moved around to the point that every fan knew it was greater than hagler/Hearns.

It may be because there were so many great middleweight fights in the 1950s and early 1960s that some of them get lost in the shuffle.

Lyle-Shavers was a brutal fight.
Young-Norton was a great fight as well.
For whatever reason, they get very little attention.

I wouldn't call it great, but I watched Leonard/Kalule the other day for the first time in ages and it's very good.

Lenny Lapaglia vs Art Jimmerson was a very entertaining fight between two relatively unknown guys. Lapaglia was a local from my neck of the woods. Pierre Coetzer vs Johnny Duplooy was a good fight too.
