Gavin McDonell vacates British title - out of Dickens fight
Gavin McDonell vacates British title - out of Dickens fight
As above Gavin McDonnell has vacated the British title and will now not fight Jazza Dickens.
Apparently its so he can 'pursuit other titles'. What a load of bollocks. This kind of thing really does my head in, no doubt they'll get hime some shit fight for a bullshit international title and make out like hes moving onto world level!
Give me a break he was lucky to keep hold of the title in my opinion and is nothing more than domestic class, which I'm not knocking but therefore why not defend the lonsdale belt proudly.

Re: Gavin McDonell vacates British title - out of Dickens fight
Unless he's fighting for a world title why does he need to give up the British belt?
Weak move.
Weak move.
Re: Gavin McDonell vacates British title - out of Dickens fight
If he's to fight "international" opposition rather than "domestic" then he's little choice, as Galahad holds the the European & Commonwealth titles, no?
So it'll be some noddy IBF intercontinental belt or something.

Re: Gavin McDonell vacates British title - out of Dickens fight
Which he could hold at the same time as the British title anyway.orbtastic wrote:So it'll be some noddy IBF intercontinental belt or something.
Re: Gavin McDonell vacates British title - out of Dickens fight
He could but that doesn't sound like their intention with regards to oppos.
Re: Gavin McDonell vacates British title - out of Dickens fight
Exactly, there intention seems fighting internation opponents that are no way as good as or better than their domestic rivals for some sort of international/ intercontinental title and con the fans into thinking its some sort of step up towards world level. Its the Matchroom way of late! Although to be fair I'm not sure if Gavin's a Matchroom fighter but definitely following that trend.orbtastic wrote:He could but that doesn't sound like their intention with regards to oppos.

Good point was presuming he was as last few fights on Matchroom but not 100% haveDMA1987 wrote:Disappointing that.

Strange one for me & totally pointless, but unfortunately the way boxing is going. Win some International title against an Argentinian at least a weight below & apparently you are in their top 15 & eligible!

I'm going to have a quick look through Lee Haskins record on boxrec, to see if there are any of his former victims that might be suitable for mcDonnell.

So Gavin chickens,
Out of a fight with Dickens.
A reoccuring trend with Matchroom?
Ah the plot thickens.
Re: Gavin McDonell vacates British title - out of Dickens fight
will dickens still fight then?
Re: Gavin McDonell vacates British title - out of Dickens fight
Josh Wale was mandatory for the winner, he will probably get the shot now, think Dickens is with Warren so it may well be the same night, but in Liverpool rather than Hull.rm1 wrote:will dickens still fight then?

McDonnell will fight an unranked Argentinian next. For a WBA international silver belt. Totally pointless. Fight Dickens.

I agree. I don't normally mind Hearn's matchmaking but this is really disappointing.Black Sam Bellamy wrote:McDonnell will fight an unranked Argentinian next. For a WBA international silver belt. Totally pointless. Fight Dickens.

Hopefully should be able to announce in next few days but watch out for it been a fighter who boxed for world title in his last fight and is ranked well in the world top 10 by 1 governing body.
Gavin is 29 next leading contender to European and has the board named 2 mandatory fights Gavin would be in no better position he is in now than around 8/10 months time you people know boxing is a business and we have to strike now whilst the iron is hot.
Thanks

Mathebula and Terrazas are the only fighters that fit that, unless it's someone from a lower weight, which is likely with Hearn.fightacademy wrote:Hopefully should be able to announce in next few days but watch out for it been a fighter who boxed for world title in his last fight and is ranked well in the world top 10 by 1 governing body.

I agree but only on the reason that Gavin would lose to dickens best to have a punt at World Level and lose than to lose at domestic level and be more or less finished

Jazza would beat Gavin.
Re: Gavin McDonell vacates British title - out of Dickens fight
Sad state of affairs instead of meeting someone potntially dangerous meet someone washed up for some international belt. Maybe I am wrong but I am pretty confident his "world title challenge" would have been the weight below too knowing Eddie!fightacademy wrote:Hopefully should be able to announce in next few days but watch out for it been a fighter who boxed for world title in his last fight and is ranked well in the world top 10 by 1 governing body.

A sad state of affairs & I know that Gavin puts his health on the line everytime he gets in a ring but this is why boxing really pisses me off.

So did we confirm that Gavin is with Matchroom?
