Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
Picked-up Boxing News yesterday and one picture instantly caught my eye, the Algieri v Pacman presser shot in Macau.
I know the camera can and does lie.....and sometimes it is done deliberately......but Algieri absolutely towered over Manny and looked like a solid customer as well. Manny by contrast, looked older than I'd ever seen him before and tired.
Pacman has got to be the favourite to win, pick the reasons why and the advantages he holds at your leisure, but the picture did get me thinking that Algieri has the potential to be a bloody tough day at the office for Manny. Algieri looks like a big, young and fit lad and if you can see off a storm like Provodnikov?
I think Pacman wins, but we'll see more of Algieri.

Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
I agree Algeiri at 5'10" towers the 5'6" Pacquia. But the experience factor that Manny has is the determining
factor of this fight.
factor of this fight.
Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
Aging Pacman still dominated a P4P top 5 fighter in his last bout. Algieri is significantly taller but I don't think he's particularly big, nor will he have a strength or power advantage that may be expected to accompany a size advantage. I think Algieri will find it especially difficult to effectively implement his style against an opponent who is faster than him and punches in combination rather than throwing heavy single shots like Ruslan does.
Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
.I'm 6ft 2 and tower over Pac too but Algieri and I have the same chance of beating Pac. Algiers can't punch,he's limited.even a shot pacman massacres himBodyshot3 wrote:Picked-up Boxing News yesterday and one picture instantly caught my eye, the Algieri v Pacman presser shot in Macau.

De la Hoya is 5 11........
Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
Not sure he's ACTUALLY 5'11.deadpan wrote:De la Hoya is 5 11........
Besides.. we're not using the Oscar who thought it'd be a great idea to legit cut down to 147 by sustaining off of ostrich meat, are we?

Oscar is 5'9" according to celebheights, whose stats I generally trust. The editor also thinks that Manny is about 5'5" rather than the listed 5'6.5".

Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
Lol @ "big" Alfgieri. Height is not a huge advantage here. Call it what it is...a crap match up, and a waste of Pac's last couple of years.
Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
I think Algieri will lose too but Aging Pacman didn't dominate anyone in his last fight. He was looking confused and frustrated until his mom put a curse on Bradley which caused him to hurt his calf but PAC still couldn't do anything with the injured Bradley.crusader wrote:Aging Pacman still dominated a P4P top 5 fighter in his last bout. If by "couldn't do anything with him" you mean "really clearly beat him."
Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
Manny at 5'5 sounds about right. Oscar down at 5'9.. ehh.. probably closer than 5'11.crusader wrote:http://www.celebheights.com/s/Oscar-De- ... 47015.html

That isn't uncommon with those who use PEDS, go look up some of the pics of people who has used them as see how old they look.Bodyshot3 wrote:Picked-up Boxing News yesterday and one picture instantly caught my eye, the Algieri v Pacman presser shot in Macau.

Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
He occasionally looked frustrated over the first five rounds of a twelve round fight, two or three of those which he won, then he clearly won nearly every remaining round, so he obviously did something with Bradley. I see no problem with saying he dominated.Othro wrote:I think Algieri will lose too but Aging Pacman didn't dominate anyone in his last fight. Algieri has as much chance of winning a decision in Asia as any poster here does.

It's also not uncommon with those who age. Go look up some of the pics of people who get older and see how old they look compared to when they were young.Brut wrote:That isn't uncommon with those who use PEDS, go look up some of the pics of people who has used them as see how old they look.Bodyshot3 wrote:Picked-up Boxing News yesterday and one picture instantly caught my eye, the Algieri v Pacman presser shot in Macau.

By "couldn't do anything with him " I mean by having an injured opponent who's fighting with his back against the ropes while Pacquiao can still not go for the kill or even hurt him .squiggy wrote:If by "couldn't do anything with him" you mean "really clearly beat him."

Margarito was a huge welterweight; much bigger than Algeri but that didn't count for much.
Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
Algieri can't punch, so his only size advantage is reach/jab trying to keep Manny off. With Manny being faster that will likely not help.

In addition to having vastly more experience, Pac is also accustomed to dealing with bigger men at higher weights. Can't see Chris standing much of a chance, though he does have that lightening speed and work rate.

Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
How can you "force" a guy to fight at his own weight??fergusg wrote:Does anybody have any idea why Manny Pacquiao’s team demanded the fight be fought at a catch-weight of 144lbs, even though Algieri is the 140lbs fighter?![]()
Apparently Chris Algieri wanted this to be a standard 147lbs contest, but Manny’s team forced him to weigh 144lbs.![]()
I must admit that the official 3½" height advantage does seem far too small because the American appears to tower over Pacquiao by a much bigger margin!
Algieri has only weighed 147 once in his career; 148 in his pro debut. He's a titlist at 140. If Manny had "forced" him to weigh 147, people would have complained about that.
Algieri isn't a powerful guy. An extra three pounds wouldn't have added anything to his punches, but may have slowed him down a tad.

I saw him standing next to Kell Brook and Brook actually looked taller and he's listed as being 5'9.JCS wrote:Not sure he's ACTUALLY 5'11.deadpan wrote:De la Hoya is 5 11........

Re: Big Chris Algieri v ageing Pacman
When I first heard that Manny Pacquiao was going to fight Chris Algieri I naturally thought Pacquiao, would win with his speed and superior championship experience.
But the more I thought about there is that tiny voice in the back of my head that thinks Algieri could actually do it. He is younger, fresher and more hungrier guy and will be looking to make a splash in a talent rich Welterweight division. And the best way to make a splash is by grabbing a belt of one of the best Pound for Pounders in the sport.

fergusg wrote:@IKSRTFO - So one of the photos of Floyd Mayweather you supplied is a low-resolution screen-shot from a TV interview, whilst the more recent photos you’ve posted show him working out and exercising strenuously, with his face grimacing… and you bizarrely consider this as a fair comparison?
It’s unfortunate that the appearances of the majority of human beings on this planet changes significantly in the span of 15 years or so. It’s a fact of life.
That's the point. both age like anyone else ages so I'm comparing what he said was Pacquiao looking old against Floyd under the same years and conditions.
