I first noticed him when he pushed John Simpson to the wire, I thought he was the moral victor that night.

He was evident again beating Anthony Crolla and then on Saturday deserved a draw I thought against John Murray.

He's gutsy, canny, moves well and has fast hands in combination. He imposes himself well.

I just love the this little grafter. Officially, one of my favourite fighters. British boxing needs 'proper' journeyman like this, who come to win. Even when they only get the call at 11.30am on the day of the fight.

Say it loud.

I love Youssef Al Hamidi, the Syrian Scrapper.

Yes, I did think Murray won as Youseff tired - but given them both 6 weeks of preperation - then I would actually favour Youseff.

Scoring a fight is a subjective business but I think Al Hamidi was the moral an actual victor on Saturday night and though he didn't get the nod he exposed a hyped prospect and his limitations. It was good to watch.

For me though, Murray has been exposed before - last time out in the states, Billy Smith gave him a good work out and especially when he won the WBC youth title.

I don't see what the fuss is about..... he's just going to be another Matthew Hatton.

I thought Murray won fairly clearly as he won down the stretch. The first 5 were squeaky bum time.

That said, I do think he's a dirty little fcker. A couple of times he used the head a little too much.

Thats a real fighter, turns up at a few hours notice, fights young undefeated prospects 2 weight divisions above him and beats the stuffing out of them.

I seem to remember him winning the 1st round against Gomez impressively, but expending far too much energy (must have done about 100 laps of the ring keeping out of Gomez's way!), so that by the third he was completely dead on his feet and getting a good hammering. Although I suppose that could have been because of an injury in hindsight if he did 8 this weekend.

Hamidi has given everyone a hard fight. Gomez, Burns, Simpson and Murray.

Murray won fair & square - I really don't know what all the fuss is about with comments that Hamidi "won" - and if Murray had trained for Hamidi he would have won clearer.

The truth is it shouldn't have really come to this where he's 5 months out, his tools blunted. Young fighters have to move forward to new challenges but unfortunately at the last minute the only available person was the journeyman/spoiler.

Let's not get stupid here. Hamidi had been training for a fight next week for lightweight. Murray's strength was taking its toll on Hamidi in 6 and 7 and in the 8th he may have actually scored a knockdown.

Hamdi is a great spoiler.

I think Hamidi is more than just a spoiler. He takes it to the opponent every time, yep, fair play - he was holding at the end.

But Murray didn't plan to use his jab versus Fewkes?

He cut Mike quite badly in the first, but Mike hammered him form then in (if memory serves some brutal body shots almost halved Hamidi). I dont remember an injury, although I could be wrong... the fight was shows on Channel M wasnt it.

As for the "was he that good back then" - well its less than 12 months ago, so I dont think he'dve improved that much since then, he also showed the same qualities in his fights immedietley afetr the gomez defeat, so I think Mike just ground hm down in that one. Sure he's more experienced now, obviously.

His stamina might hold out better if he wasn't taking fights at less than 12 hours notice!

Unbelievable that he did that, fair play to him, and I felt he won at least four rounds against Murray. Murray once again showed how limited he is.

True. I don't think he won the fight as he tired so badly but he took the moral victory due to the fact he won the first half of the fight ,was significantly the smaller of the two and took it on a few hours notice. A lot of the viewers would be thinking that if only he had time to prepar and was a bit fitter he could have kept up the high energy tactics which were winning him the fight.

I hope he earns a well paying meaningful contest off the back of that performance.

Yes, he deserves it, and his attitude is terrific.

no complaints at the end....even though Gallagher and Murray were a little arsey when Rosenthal asked if he thought the decision was in any doubt.

He put up a very gallant effort and he if hadn't tired perhaps the result may have been in doubt.

The big question is - Is Murry regressing as a boxer? I remember raving about him to a security card in Vegas when he fought on the undercard of ODLH vs. FM but since then he seems to have gone backwards. Maybe lack of motivation?

Jim was saying Fewkes may well beat him and now I may agree.

has anyone got the Michael Gomez vs Youssef al Hamidi fight? Someone put it on youtube but it isn't on there anymore. I thought I had downloaded it but its not on my hard-drive. So annoying, please let me know if you have it.

Brilliant tear up, was at the fight. Gomez lost the first round then pummeled him in the next round or two. cant remember, if it finished in ropund 2 or 3... I think 3. too lazy to check haha
