Froch v Groves III?
In his interview with Sky Sports at Wembley yesterday, George Groves mentions 'people talking about me and him [Froch] fighting again next year'...
Where was this mentioned?
Thinking about it, if Froch does fight on, and George wins on 20th September and then wins the world title, it would be a good conclusion to the situation between them; a lot of good rivalries have trilogies, and I don't think Froch v Groves 3 would be any worse than a cracking fight again...?
I reckon they'd both fancy it, Froch would think he can go out with a bomb and beat the young pup again, likely as a world champ by that stage, and Groves thinks he has the beating of Froch (which in fairness you can argue since he more than held his own throughout the 17 rounds so far).
Would love it!

In a strange way I'd like to see it too. i think it's widely accepted that the first fight was unsatisfactorily stopped to say the least then the second fight was ended by one punch. In both fights I had Groves ahead at the time of the stoppages so I'd like to see fight three, see if Groves has learned from the first two fights.
Re: Froch v Groves III?
I'm not being a wind-up merchant here, but George Groves is mentally crushed and will never recover.
Everything he does herein , will never heal that open wound.
He might even be damaged goods now. A gruelling fight followed up by a less-gruelling rematch but with a concussive knockout? Not everyone bounces back to their best.
If there are cracks, this bum Rebrasse won't reveal them- but further down the line it could get interesting.

Can't say I have any interest in a 3rd Froch v Groves fight. Ok the 1st fight was concluded in a very unsatisfying fashion, but the 2nd fight was about as conclusive as it gets. Despite how close both fights were, I think the pattern is now clear - Groves will be competitive until the final 3rd, then Froch gets to him & stops him.

I think thats a fair comment, especially when George relies so much on self confidence.G0mez wrote:I'm not being a wind-up merchant here, but George Groves is mentally crushed and will never recover.

I also had George ahead in both fights, but Carl practically became his daddy after the KO shot in fight 2. I don't wish to see a third fight as all it does is give Carl time to age or regress until George can finish the job, christ even if he did win could you argue with Carl being past his best.
Groves best option is to rebuild and try to build a resume that will help people remove Carl as the primary fight in his career as best he can. Go out, fight the best people he can and gets some better wins under his belt. I like GG a hell of a lot and hope he can achieve this to some extent.
Re: Froch v Groves III?
i think a 2nd degale fight is more likely if degale wins a belt , i don't think froch will be around long enough for groves to get in a position to challenge froch again ,he'd need to win a world belt first to give it any meaning

Far from taking it as a wind up I actually find this interesting from you who has connections to 'Team Froch'. What's the view from their side of Groves potential going forward? Nobody can argue against Carl's perfect execution of the KO in fight two but he was out boxed through the majority of those rounds?G0mez wrote:I'm not being a wind-up merchant here, but George Groves is mentally crushed and will never recover.

I just wonder whether there's any desire at all from Froch to do it again if GG did win a strap? Not in a negative way, just whether he'd actually be 'up' for it?
P.s. is Chavez on 24th Jan still looking like the front runner?
Re: Froch v Groves III?
I doubt for one second this would happen again. However I would love to see a 3rd fight.
Groves does need to win a world title for it to even be rumoured though......

Evidently not.TopGun wrote:I doubt for one second this would happen again. However I would love to see a 3rd fight.

I don't think he'll struggle to get over it, there was an obvious mistake made, something he can mentally latch onto. This isn't Calzaghe-Lacy. Personally I thought he second was more than conclusive but I enjoyed both fights so wouldn't be opposed to a third, but I dot think it's needed.

For the rumour to be taken seriously

Although I hate to admit it, G0mez is right. Carl did a job on him mentally in the second fight.

Jesus...a lot of people speaking as if they know Groves and treating him being mentally crushed as fact. Talk about a race to get up Froch's ass.
I think time will tell as to the impact, but only George and those closest to him will know the effect

I didn't mean it to come across that way, and I've perhaps been Carls biggest critic on here, and I have no intention of get up his arse....thepocketrocket wrote:Jesus...a lot of people speaking as if they know Groves and treating him being mentally crushed as fact. Fair play...I just hate anything like this being taken as fact. People can have an opinion on how it will go in the future, but if they are certain of things in such a manner they probably have a Delorean in the garage, or Mystic Meg as a Mum.mickey1975 wrote:I didn't mean it to come across that way, and I've perhaps been Carls biggest critic on here, and I have no intention of get up his arse....thepocketrocket wrote:Jesus...a lot of people speaking as if they know Groves and treating him being mentally crushed as fact. I have no interest in a 3rd match. There was some debate about the first stoppage, personally, i had no major issues with it but the second was as clear cut as you like.
Other than GG being desperate to beat him, what is the fight angle?

Re: Froch v Groves III?
The fact that the first two were decent fights and a third would also likely be a better?
Kessler beat Froch pretty comfortably in Denmark but they did it again?

Re: Froch v Groves III?
Groves should have to earn a third crack of the whip. It's such a licence to print money though, he may just get given the gift.
Re: Froch v Groves III?
What evidence is there that Groves has been mentally crushed?
Re: Froch v Groves III?
Same here, there is no way a third fight could generate any kind of the numbers of the previous fight.freddydoesdallas wrote:I have no interest in a 3rd match. There was some debate about the first stoppage, personally, i had no major issues with it but the second was as clear cut as you like.

I would like to see either Froch or Groves against DeGale, but not bothered about Froch / Groves III
Re: Froch v Groves III?
It wasn't comfortable at all! It was a war and Kessler didn't stop Froch. Froch has stopped Groves 2 in a row (rightly or wrongly in the 1st). On paper that doesn't grant you the 3rd. The KO in the 2nd was unreal yet people are saying he didn't outbox Groves. If Froch had out-boxed Groves and won on pts then some would argue for a 3rd because he couldn't stop groves fairly... I think it's about as over as a rivalry can be.MarkMcBurney wrote:The fact that the first two were decent fights and a third would also likely be a better?

Re: Froch v Groves III?
Doubt Froch will ever fight Groves again. Maybe if Groves beat both Ward and GGG, but even if that happened Froch would probably be long retired by then.

Re: Froch v Groves III?
Wouldn't sell
Would be the first time in modern history there has been a trilogy where one fighter has won 2/2 and they go for a trilogy
I was quite devastated that Groves did not beat the shit out of Froch because I believe he is the last fighter at the weight capable of knocking him out, but you saw from his abysmal tactics that Froch had did a number on him mentally. Conserve your energy so you can be stronger down the stretch, conveniently forgetting that Froch will also be stronger down the stretch if he is eating less leather
No interest in seeing him get knocked out for a 3rd time

I didn't say concussive!

Not really heard many call it comfortable. Until just now actually.MarkMcBurney wrote:It was 'pretty comfortable' in my opinion, and of many others.danamba7 wrote:It wasn't comfortable at all! I don't want to see a third fight, we got what we needed from the first 2.
Re: Froch v Groves III?
Groves should focus more on getting a second fight with DeGale because that is his biggest fight now and has a good mix to do well.
