Johnny hasn't missed a day in the gym for as long as I can remember.
Still an athlete.
Still an athlete.
Re: JOHNNY NELSON - 'I WOULD COME BACK JUST TO FIGHT MARCO HUCK"
Boxing really has gone to the dogs if this ends up happening.
Re: JOHNNY NELSON - 'I WOULD COME BACK JUST TO FIGHT MARCO HUCK"
would I pay to watch Nelson box again? these are things I would rather pay to do....
watch paint dry
learn lawn bowls
volunteer for coast watch
listen to someone dragging their nails down a chalk board
chew tin foil
rub my shlong on a pebble dash wall

Get on with it then
Re: JOHNNY NELSON - 'I WOULD COME BACK JUST TO FIGHT MARCO HUCK"
Let me explain myself .I grew up in a neighbourhood predominantly west indian recent immigrants in the 1970s.that generation of youths in that era seemed disproportionately muscular, adept at fighting, confident at fighting compared to white and Asian and Chinese youths. The last couple of years, I have seen a couple of doorman of that british ethnic minority group in their late 40s absolutely hammer your twenty something cagefighters or local hardmen.Counter-puncher wrote:mugabi wrote:.brutally strong in a,1970s west Indian British way
Of course the fact is in those days asians and whites didn't do weight training etc as much as they universally have done since the fitness craze of the mid 1990s.
Fighters like Nelson,Benn,Watson,Eubanks, andries, honeyghan, hope, bruno, mason ,Lennox,Kirkland laing Tec were all from that group of youths. When Carl Thompson the quintessential strong as an ox British west indian from the 1970s hammered the modern youth david haye in 2002 it was what I meant.
Nelson would do the same to huck.
It's the same with American midfleweight boxers from the 80s being more talented than modern day far younger eastern European fighters.which is why well into the 2000s guys like hopkins, jones, tarver, virgil hill and to a lesser extent toney have excelled against younger men of that demographic

Also worth remembering, is that the west indian stock that came to England in the 1950's - 1970's were many of them manual labourors, and also were descendents of what was in effect a selective breeding program. The slaves were predominantly from West Africa, where they tend to be tall and muscular anyway, those that survived the terrible conditions on the slave ships and made it to the west indies, were by their very nature, the genetically strongest and healthiest, then those that survived to breed in the hard work conditions of the colonies, were the strongest of those strongest, and then on top of that, the slave masters would selectively breed the strongest males and females, so their offspring would be strong too. That happened over many generations, and their descendents came here. No wonder they were hard as fook.mugabi wrote:Let me explain myself .I grew up in a neighbourhood predominantly west indian recent immigrants in the 1970s.that generation of youths in that era seemed disproportionately muscular, adept at fighting, confident at fighting compared to white and Asian and Chinese youths. It's like the poles, they survived the terrors of the second world war, and the pogroms and forced labour camps of communism. Most polish men you see are build like brick outhouses, again, they are the descendents of the horrors of wars and invasions where only the strongest survive.

Would love to see this!

Nelson is still talking about this fight. He's really stoking it up.

Nelson is obviously joking.
Having had a total hip replacement (THR), it would be nigh on impossible for him to complete a training camp, let alone fight.
Even if he did make it through, the risk of dislocation would be massive & once you dislocate a THR, you face potential recurrent dislocations just like that.
Then again, I suppose he could just shrug his shoulders for 12 rounds like he did against Carlos DeLeon!

Nelson's not joking. He's in training hard for a fight next February/March time. He's repeatedly said it on some of the interviews that I've seen on Youtube from various boxing broadcasters. And they are dated this month.

I'd be staggered if this happens, as I don't think the fight game is missing him that much.leejoorin wrote:Boxing really has gone to the dogs if this ends up happening.
I actually thought Nelson was joking when he said this, but as others have said, he's in full training & deadly serious.
Johnny's ego must be in overdrive if he thinks he is capable of beating Huck at almost 48 years old, with ten years of rust in-situ, & creaking like a broken down Six Million Dollar Man.
I suppose, ultimately, he's a grown man of sound mind & can make his own choices in life.
Nobody told him to start boxing, so, nobody really has the right to tell him when to stop; it's his life.

Syntax
There are no issues with the hip. The specialists have given him the go ahead. The programme is in place and he'll be ready end of first quarter 2015.

How many times has Nelson talked about someone who shouldn't come back or is to old or commented on fighters going on too long?
I don't remember any specific examples on ringside but the topic is one that regularly comes up in boxing and must have been discussed many times.
I can't believe Johnny is really going ahead with this, he seems an intellegent fella and surely isn't desperate for the cash.
He surely stands little chance, he was a solid world champion but no great deal better than huck IMO. So to try to overcome Huck in his prime when Johnny mut be so far past it, both physically and in terms of having been out the ring for so long. He's had a hip op and no warm up fight to see if he has it in him to challenge at this level.
I can only see him being badly embarrased here and damaging his credibility, at least Hatton said he was coming back to see if he still had anything left, Nelsons talking about exposing the division, he's setting himself up for a hard fall.
And I don't think much of Huck for bringing it up let alone accepting it or the governing body for letting it go ahead.

This should not be allowed by any one who has a boxers health at heart to take place it's been way too long for johnny to come back especially at this high standard of boxing I am surprised and shocked if this takes place anyone involved should be ashamed if it takes place. A love johnny as a boxer and a person but this should really be overruled
Re: JOHNNY NELSON - 'I WOULD COME BACK JUST TO FIGHT MARCO HUCK"
Go on Johnny, I reckon he will take Huck out as he's pretty shite, so fair play have a go.
Re: JOHNNY NELSON - 'I WOULD COME BACK JUST TO FIGHT MARCO HUCK"
Johnny was never a special talent outside of British boxing & ten years out is too long regardless of him stating in shape!
He needs warm ups!!& assess the situation from there

Surely this is a PR stunt isn't it?
Getting on for 50 with a hip replacement and a broken knee ?
