Quillin vacates title

Post by crusader »

Per Rafael:
The WBO has received a letter from @GoldenBoyBoxing on behalf of @KIDCHOCOLATE. He has passed on the Korobov fight & career $. #boxing
Quillin vacated title. Would have been stripped for not signing by 4 pm ET. Amazing. Turned down $1.4M for hometown fight he'd be favored in.

What the hell is he doing? This smells like some sort of Al Heymon fuckery to me.

This pussy is still talking about being "the best middleweight in the world" :shame: He has always fought in the second leaugue and now he confirned why: he and his team don't believe that he can beat the best. He is out from the top 10 for me.

Now this is some legit ducking sh!t unless there is something bigger in the works with another champion which seems unlikely or something else going on that isn't visible quite yet.

Jesus. Talk about ideas above his station. He might be stupid enough not to realise how big a mistake he's made now, but it's gonna smart down the line.

My guess is we're gonna get Quillin/Jacobs. They're both Heymon guys.

It's not like Korobov is GGG ferchristsakes, so this seems rather stupid unless he's already signed to fight for more money vs Cotto or Jacobs. I guess we'll know pretty soon

No kidding. If he signed he would've been set for a great payday against a beatable opponent he probably would've been favored over.

Could he get more than $1.4 million fighting Jacobs ?

That's over three times his biggest purse to date.

Have no clue, but at least that would explain this as something more than pure lunacy. I don't think Korobov is a whole lot better than Jacobs, if at all, so it seems silly Quillin would trade one fight for another other unless there was more money. Maybe Jacobs/Quillin makes more in New York. I dunno.

But then again, we don't know Quillin has any deal in place. He may just be acting like a fvcking dope.

BTW, in case Saunders is next in line .... is he any good? I've only seen him KO Fletcher. For those who have seen a bit of Saunders, is he a legit matchup with Korobov?

Saunders-Korobov is roughly a 50/50 fight in my view.

That was a while ago, but I think Jacobs still has durability problems which make him a more beatable opponent for Quillen.

Now that's an interesting question...if you're a mandatory to fight a Haymon fighter do you force it to purse bids to **** with him?

I won't. I've seen Korobov several times and he's OK. Not knocking him. As a pro, I just don't think he's a dramatic step up from Jacobs and the difference isn't big enough to turn down a huge payday if you're going to fight Jacobs instead. GGG, I understand. Korobov no.

Maybe Haymon promissed Quillin comparable money for the Jacobs fight ? Yes, Korobov hasn't impressed during his professional career, but all skills he used for dominating in amateurs are there, and he would have better motivation and better shape for the championship fight. Jacobs fight is clearly safer for Quillin.

That's being a bit kind to Saunders maybe. And I don't rate Korobov at all.

Exactly the same view myself. Neither are great but Korobov is the better of the two.

It may lean a bit in Korobov's favor, but I haven't seen much to suggest more than a slight edge.

I expect Korobov confidently beating the raw Brit in the first 6 rounds. After that, all depends on what physical shape he will be in. Skills/IQ wise, he is way above Saunders.
