"Kid Chocolate" Peter Quillin vacated his middleweight world title and kissed a career-high $1.4 million purse goodbye on Thursday.
He was faced with a WBO-imposed deadline of 4 p.m. ET on Thursday to sign a contract for his mandatory defense against Matt Korobov. Quillin, who had already been given two extensions to the signing deadline, would have been stripped of his title had he not vacated.
It still comes as a surprise to many that Quillin, whose wife gave birth to their first child, a boy, about a week ago, would turn down a purse that is more than three times his biggest payday and give up his title without having another fight signed.
He should change his name to a more appropriate one, that being Quitting. What a pussy this guy has turned out to be. Cuban fight fans must be so embarrassed that he is one of them. Dropping a belt so he can avoid a fight with a fighter he would most likely have been favoured over is unbelievable. Riddick Bowe did the same thing but at least he had a couple of other belts to fall back on.
As much as Qullin deserves the stick he's getting for dropping his belt and avoiding Korobov- I think it's more Haymon telling him to do that vs Quillin being scared to fight Korobov, etc. What he obviously is scared of is disobeying Haymon.

I'm sorry but the fighter has the last say. It's Quitting's reputation on the line not Haymon's. If the fighter makes it adamant about fighting someone then the manager has to do what the fighter wants. Blaming this on Haymon is an easy scapegoat to try and deflect from the fact that Quitting isn't confident in facing better comp.

True but as you know Haymon holds a lot of sway in the sport and for all we know if Quillin would of gone against what Haymon said he might of been told I dont want to represent you anymore and Peter would be out in the wilderness vs having a powerful advisor backing him. I cant imagine he would of turned down a 1.4 million payday against Korobov because he was scared of fighting him. Just my opinion obviously.
Whether Quillin is afraid of Haymon, Korobov, or his wife doesn't really matter. The point is that he is afraid of something which is not good for a professional boxer. He did look scared in his fight with Rosado too.
no way quillen is scared of korobov, ggg yea he want no part but korobov has not impressed since like his fifth pro fight. somebody has quillens ear(haymon) and theyre proly lining up jacobs
