I cant remember the talk show but Ali appeared with Sly Stone once and I thought he was going to knock Stone out. You could tell he didnt like the guy.

(to be fair,Sly Stone was heavy into cocaine use at this point,so he may not have been in a right frame of mind).

That almost looked like an old skit from SCTV.
Ali in a suit and tie and Sly in a wild outa-space costume.
Man,I sure wish I had somethin like that to wear to school back in 1974.

"Dance to the Music" and "I want to take You Higher" were my favorites from that group.Caractacus wrote:That's good enuff excuse to hear this clip(agin)here.klompton wrote:True. I love sly btw.

Re: Joe Frazier on THE MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW(1974)
how funky is THANKFUL AND THOUGHTFUL!!!
but I agree with klomp that ALI just didn't like SLY's rude manner and the guy was probably very very spaced out. Ali was superb throughout

I got hold of this interview about 15 years ago. I remember watching it with my Dad. Ali seemed really peed off. It was as though he was 'representing the educated blackman' and saw himself as a role model(which he was) and Sly was being silly (out of his head) and I remember Ali saying something to the effect of 'This is our problem' in reference to Sly being a numpty.

I have a four CD of Sly and it is fantastic....If you want me to stay, everyday people, thankyou, hot fun in the summertime, dance to the music...fabulous. The CD is right up there with my Ohio Players, Confunkshun, Fatback, Rose Royce, Parliament, Kool and the Gang original, Dr Buzzards Original Savannah band, Brass Construction and of course Mr James Brown!

Re: Joe Frazier on THE MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW(1974)
I dont think Muhammad Ali was really angry at Sly Stone there,
he seemed actually kind of sad and sorry.
Watching a brotha wreck himself before he checked himself.
They were obviously were or had been friends.
(Sly even said he wanted Ali as a guest on the show when he was made a co-host.
I think maybe Sly Stone was proably doing lines in front of Ali back in the green room earlier.
