I predict that this weekend...

Post by hulkmaniac »

Roberto "Massa" Ortiz is going to beat Lucas Matthysse. Ortiz hits hard and is tough, he won't back down. The boxing community has overrated Matthysse since his knock out of the emasculated, just-got-busted-for-PED's Lamont Peterson. The "Machine" isn't some boogeyman, and in reality not much more skilled than Provodnikov. Matthysse as well as the public are automatically assuming Ortiz is a pushover, but they will be in for a shock. This fight is going to be the 140 lb version of Froch-Abraham. Just hope Danny boy doesn't duck Roberto Ortiz after he makes a name for himself.

Picking Roberto myself. Lucas is one of the most overrated boxers right now as fans are apt to do with guys who can punch. This is a huge step up for Roberto, but he's a quality prospect & win or lose hes gonna have a decent future in boxing.

Although you're spot on when it comes to people overrating crude brawlers/punchers but I still think Mattysse has a decent skill set (more so than Provodnikov). This will be a good fight and I could see either guy winning, I think Mattysse will get to Ortiz first though somewhere in the mid to late rounds, should be a good fight.

Lucas was indeed being jocked way too hard by the typical, 'follow the flavor of the month hard hitter' boxing fan, but now he's sort of been written off unjustly by the majority, in my opinion.
Just another example about how perception is so wonky in boxing. He's either the best, or the worst.
In actuality though, he's simply among the best fighters in his weight range. Better than most, worse than a few.

Lucas will beat Massa in a highly entertaining action fight with many momentum swaps.
Looking forward to this one.

Nice to see some people actually offering legit views on Matthysses' worth as a fighter, instead of gushing all over him as many did last year...at least until Garcia derailed him.
Probably a year from now, we'll also get a reevaluation of Kovalev, who's the current "monster" to scores of fight fans. Until Hopkins derails him.

BTW, LM is now a whopping 10-1 choice over Ortiz. Some people have short memories. I like the more experienced Argentine in this one, but agree it will be a difficult fight for him against the unbeaten, hard punching Mexican.

Damn. Imma have to throw something on Roberto. The pokersite I play on with a sportsbook that I got $ on doesn't hardly list any fights. Gonna have to find a boxing & US friendly betting site.

From what I've seen of Ortiz ill be very suprise if he beats Lucas.

I see the "makina" stopping him in brutal fashion.

For those saying Matthysse got overhyped by folks and will get beat by Ortiz I wanna see what you gotta say afterwards so please stop by this thread after the fight.

I agree.

When a fighter many thought was overrated loses or has a significantly stock-lowering performance, those who felt they were overrated often start underrating the same fighter or underrate them by a greater margin than they already did. LM isn't the monster many people thought he was, but he's still a good fighter and I think he'll beat Ortiz.

When a fighter many thought was overrated loses or has a significantly stock-lowering performance, those who felt they were overrated go overboard in underrating the same fighter. LM isn't the monster many people thought he was but he's still a good fighter and I think he'll beat Ortiz.
I'll throw my hat in in agreement too. I think Lucas is quite underrated now. He'll grind this one out, but it's gonna be a good fight.

That's why I think a lot of so called boxing fans are idiots. When a fighter is on the up and up they overhype them to a point that there's no where to go but down. But when they're "FLAVOR OF THE MONTH" is derailed they jump off the bandwagon almost immediately. These same types of boxing fan will say that a undefeated record doesn't matter and anyone who's undefeated cherry picks their opponents, but yet every time someone loses (even if it's against a world class opponent) suddenly they are a shell of themselves and don't hold them on such high regards. This forum is oozing with hypocrites that show double standards to the point I have hard time even posting on here anymore, it's like trying to debate with a bunch of women that change their mind every second.

Lets be real hear, it was less than a year ago 90% of the people on this forum thought Matthysse could knock out King f-u-cking Kong and Godzilla on the same night. Now suddenly he's either going to lose or barely squeak by a pretty much unknown (but tough) opponent, yet was heavily favored to beat the tar out of Garcia who was the legit champion of the division. Mattysse is still a bad mofo with very good power and a decent skill set, but now they act as if he's mediocre, I just don't get it.

No worries, as soon as he gets his next highlight KO, he'll be the best again and everyone will be ducking him.

Ok early stoppage or not Ortiz was on his way to getting a beatdown.

Give Lucas the Garcia rematch.

I stand corrected. I will say it was very clever that Matthysse threw that liver shot.
