Jeff Hinds the Reading referee

Post by peter1948 »

I have heard that Jeff Hinds The Reading referee was turned down in his quest to be upgraded to a star class referee.

If true thats a disgrace. I thought he had already been made a star referee earlier this year?

Who in the Board actually makes these decisions? Do they take a vote on it?

I heard it is now a Legal Matter as the Board have refused to give any reasons and are even refusing to allow an appeal to the stewards of appeal - I hope common sense prevails.

Jeff Hinds has more than served his apprenticeship. He has seen people within the refereeing circle advance ahead of him, and has accepted that gracefully on a number of occasions.

However, his technical ability is akin, or better than some of the recent crop of referees that have graduated to A star status.

The Board should therefore upgrade him immediately and provide him with an unreserved apology for the length of time it has taken to do that.

If you are saying that there are possibly other referees that have a profile different to Jeff's, please expand, and I mean that in a sharing of information manner, rather than anything derogatory

So many people have been astonished for at least 10 years that Jeff Hinds has not been made up. He has shown real commitment and is always so courteous. It must have reached some breakdown in order for the Legal Eagles to be brought in. :salut:

If someone is very good at something they can make others look bad. Keep Jeff at his current level allows some of the poorer referees to avoid comparisons to him.

We've seen Brirish referees CARRY fighters to their corner when a bout should have been stopped, we've seen very biased stuff from some refs in favour of home fighters...from what I've seen of Jeff he is amongst the top 3 in the UK and there has got to be some reason for him not to have gotten his "promotion".

Has there ever been a black A Star referee in Britain? Is IJL black or mixed race? I've probably forgotten somebody obvious.

Not a massive fan of jeff to be fair.Doesnt stand out for me hes decent but like i say outside of the a star guys bob williams consistantly impresses me with his fairness and pretty good timing of stoppages.
Its a shame it only takes a couple of decisions and it maybe gives you an unfair idea of a ref.

Jeff comes across as a nice man, but can be a bit eccentric in some of his actions & decisions in the ring.

This is not a case of Referee verses Referee - it just seems a bit odd that Jeff Hinds has seemingly been singled out for particularly harsh treatment. Looking at his profile on Twitter he is actually a JP so a man of repute - the Board need to come clean on this one I feel.

if you look on the boards website and go into committees and look up referees committee it is them and them alone that make decisions on upgrading of referees as far as i am aware
