What's so wrong in expecting champions to either be fighting their mandatories or other (real) champions?

McGuigan is doing the right thing. Let Frampton beat the rest then let Rigo chase him if he really wants to. Both fighters are unbeaten, both are world champions and both are very good. Despite the over-rated adulation Rigo gets on here from some, there is no certain number one in this division now. Does Frampton need Rigondeaux?Well if he does Rigondeaux needs Frampton as well. People can speculate all they like but until the two meet there is no evidence that one is better than the other.

It is a sad, sad day when boxing fans start talking like promoters. What happened to wanting to fight the best? To wanting to be the undisputed number 1 in your division? When did it all come down the money? I know the promoters are always thinking with their wallet but when did fans start thinking it was right?

Its always about the money! Boxers don't box for free. Boxers have a limited lifespan in the ring and if they hit a point were they can make good money they are going to ride that track until they are forced to get off. Fans buy into the whole thing of the best fighting the best but would you do it if you could make more fighting a guy a level below? Mayweather signs a contract for 30 million a fight guaranteed where he can virtually pick who he wants to fight. Is he gonna pick someone who can beat him? No, he will pick a name of someone who is a perceived threat. The TV company does not want him to lose, he does not want to lose so they come out the winners when the fans buy the hype and the fights.

Anyone with the fanciful notion the boxing is about the best versus the best should realise that boxing is a business not a sport.

Rigondeaux has already killed one gravy train. He won't get a chance to kill another.

I'll be damned if "Leather Daddy" is gonna tell me what to do with my pecker.

On a more serious note, the only reason I want to see Rigo/Frampton is because I think Frampton is the most qualified guy to be challenging Rigo at this point. Maybe a year ago it was Santa Cruz but he has done nothing lately and I think Frampton's resume surpasses his now.

Also, Frampton is actually OLDER than Santa Cruz.

I know boxing is a business but when did the fans start accepting that it was ok to duck the best because it was better finically?

Just because someone understands why these fights don't happen doesn't mean they think it's right. I'd love to see Carl fight Rigo, but in all honesty there's bigger paydays out there for him and he has to deal with Avalos first. Once Carl's set for life, which he should be within the next couple of years, get the fight on, but until then I don't begrudge any fighter that secures their future first, it's a dangerous game and a short career.

Carl Frampton is a young man who has just won his first world title. He has a mandatory he needs to take care of (Avalos) and he also has a potentially very big domestic unification fight with WBA champ Scott Quigg. Not to mention, it's typical that a young champion receives a few "soft" defenses.

It appears to me that it's mainly American fight fans who immediately expect a new champ like Frampton to take on the number 1 guy Rigo. That's strange because tbh many American titlists or contenders fight absolute rubbish opponents while overtly avoiding genuinely risky fights (Quillin fought bums then literally vacating to avoid a loss to Korobov, Garcia vacating to avoid Postol, Wilder's entire career VS taxi drivers).

So let's all calmly place our proverbial peckers back into our pants and afford a young champion a few fights before taking on the # 1 guy.
I can understand the money issue, but to say he isn't ready for someone of Rigo's caliber is ridiculous. How can someone justify calling themselves champion of the world and not be ready to face someone in the same division? I don't expect the fight to happen anytime soon, but not because Frampton needs more experience to get ready. Taking on Avalos or Quigg isn't going to make him much more ready for Rigo. His backers just want him to generate some money before taking a unification fight in which he'd be the underdog.
And Rigo is the true WBA champ; Quigg basically has the equivalent of a WBC intercontinental title.

He's 27. In a sporting sense, he's not that young.

Out of all the other contenders/pretenders, like you, I believe Frampton actually has the skillset to most trouble Rigondeuax. Would he beat him? Probably not but there's no real shame in that and very few if any probably will.

Not in a foreseeable future. If he keeps winning this is whats going to happen:

Mandatory
Quigg
Mandatory
Santa Cruz
Mandatory
Another Brit
Mandatory
Another money man at the time
Mandatory
No longer in prime Rigo
