Former boxer and trainer Bruce Farthing passed away.

Sad news for the Australian boxing community.

Former Light heavyweight boxer and Australian team trainer Bruce Farthing passed away last Thursday aged 83.

Bruce was famed for beating Johnny Halafihi and was recognised as Australia's No. 1 claimant for the vacant Australian Light Hvy title during his career.

In later years Bruce spent over three decades training fighters out of the City of Sydney Police Boys Club (PCYC) in Woolloomooloo.

The following obituary was listed in the Daily Telegraph today.

FARTHING, Bruce Alexander Late of Woollahra and formerly of Paddington. Australian Boxing identity, put on the gloves for the last time on 4th September, 2014 Aged 83 years. Much loved husband of Daphne (dec), father of Brendan and Daneene, brother of Wally (dec) and Lorna (dec), grandfather of Nathan, Alicia, Cristian and Chloe. His presence, laughter, guidance, generosity, love and friendship will be missed by all. He is now at peace with his beloved Daphne. Relatives, friends and all who knew BRUCE are warmly invited to attend his Funeral Service at St Matthias Anglican Church, 471 Oxford Street, Paddington on Tuesday 16th September, 2014 commencing at 2:00pm. A wake commemorating Bruce's life will be held at the Camelia Grove Hotel in Henderson Street, Alexandria, Sydney following the conclusion of the funeral.
