Andrade to Canelo "Put up or Shut up"

Post by philly »

Philadelphia (September 10, 2014)-- In recent weeks, Former Jr. Middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KO's) and his team at Golden Boy Promotions have been going over potential opponents for Canelo's expected return to the ring this fall.

Three names that are allegedly on a short list include undefeated current WBO Jr. Middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (21-0, 14 KO's), former Welterweight champion Joshua Clottey and James Kirkland.

But according to Andrade's father and trainer Paul Andrade, no formal talks have ever taken place and Andrade went on to say he feels that inclusion of Demetrius name is only to bolster Canelo.

"I was totally surprised when I saw the article mentioning Demetrius as a possible opponent,"said Paul Andrade.

"I saw (Alvarez promoter) Oscar De La Hoya at the Shawn Porter - Kell Brook weigh-in and he shook my hand. I asked him about a fight with Canelo and Demetrius . He said he we would have to wait in line for about 2 years. He then gave me a story that when he was in High School that if a girl was interested in him, that they would have to wait two years to date him."

Andrade then thought the fight was a dead issue until he saw some reports on the internet that Demetrius was one of the fighters in line to face Canelo.

"Three weeks later, I read that we are on the short list. I never realized that two years went by that quick. Judging by the list, I feel the only reason we are included is that it makes Canelo look good. Three weeks earlier, Oscar said that they had no intention to fight us."

"Undefeated world champions do not go on a short list."

Andrade went on to wonder how his son got on that list as he has not heard of any negotiations between the two camps.

"I understand that they have negotiated with both Clottey and Kirkland but they have not negotiated with us. That proves that he does not want to fight us right now."

"I would appreciate if does not mention our name unless he is ready to say that I will fight Andrade."

"It's time for him to put up or shut up. By mentioning us, Oscar is trying to develop Canelo's next opponent but it seems like they are going back to their old ways by fighting blown up Welterweights. I have a lot of respect for Clottey and Kirkland but Oscar can't just throw our name in the mix so Canelo can look good. Demetrius is an undefeated titleholder. Canelo claims he wants to fight the best, well we are undefeated and the best Jr. Middleweight in the world."

"The fans aren't stupid. I wish Oscar should let them pick Canelo's next opponent. Unfortunately Oscar isn't stupid because he knows Demetrius would be too much for Canelo and our fans would agree with us. "

Andrade is promoted by Banner Promotions and Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing.

Canelo should only want big dollar fights right no.He struggled with Trout and Lara.
No sense in taking unrewarding fights.

This comment makes me sick. ALL WE GET IN BOXING ARE WHAT ARE THE BIG DOLLAR FIGHTS FOR THE FIGHTERS. Not the BEST fights, but the best fights for the pockets of those involved! As a fight fan you should be interested in seeing the best fights for US for once, not for THEM for feck sake. That's all we get!! Who do you wanna see him fight? Cotto?? Why are you bothered as a fight fan that he had problems with Trout and Lara? He had problems with them because they are GOOD FIGHTERS. Isnt that the reason you watch as a fan? To see the best guys fight each other?

I thought canelo was edged in both of those fights. I'd expect the same here.

They need to up their diss game if they want the fight. Put up or shutup is some 1970's kinda sh!t. Few know this guy even if he's the best of the options most likely.

I'm not bothered for one simple reason.I see the sport for what it truly is.A business.
Canelo started his career very young and has taken several punches to the head already. He is far from
a defensive master. He needs to make his money now while he can.
For fans that only care about themselves and not the fighters well being now and in the future.Well they are not a
fan of the fighters themselves.

It is only logical to cash out now instead of when he is a brain damaged punching bag.

Andrade isn't that great of an opponent for Alvarez.

Andrade needs to step up and get some better wins.

It is a better match up than many people think. In my eyes Canelo has lost 3 out of his last 4 fights. Andrade is a champion - Canelo is not. I know the red haired Mexican is popular, but his greatness is way over-blown. An old welterweight showed us that.

I think a fight between Canelo and Andrade could be a bigger fight if they wait...the size of the purse for both guys could increase quite a bit if Andrade posts a couple more wins against top guys. Yes, as a fight fan, I would be up for seeing them fight now, but I can't really blame a fighter and his team for recognizing that a fight will make more in the future and therefore deciding to wait a bit. Andrade is beyond unknown outside of the most ardent boxing circles.

I also think what team Andrade is saying is pretty funny. It sounds to me like they are dropping Canelo's name to bolster their guy's name recognition a little. More power to them, but the apparent indignation about the whole thing makes me chuckle a bit.

I think the opposite is true. They were pretty clear that they want Canelo to quit using his team if they have absolutely no intent on fighting him for two years, as Oscar told them when they approached him for a fight. Let Canelo fight Clottey. Who knows, it may be a better fight than we all think.

This hypocrite perhaps had an orgasm when he heard Andrade mentioned next to Canelo. Thats why he is jumping at the opportunity to milk a bit of publicity. But of course he cant be genuine and admit it. This is boxing, you have to trash talk at every chance. That's what makes some fans excited. Was not Andre Ward loved for don't mention my name or fight me moaning? So now the same fans are crying when indeed noone mentions his name any more.

Canelo already beat an undefeated champion and a number one in the division. Get in the line bitch.

I really don't get why andrade is moving up unless he is really having trouble making weight at 154. Winning a wbo belt against korborov isn't really any better than having a 154 lb belt which I assume he will have to vacate as part of getting the mandatory at 160.

I understand what they are saying on the surface, I just saw some irony that I thought was humorous. But, I could be wrong.

I think Canelo is a talented fighter, but nowhere close to a once in a generation talent. So, I think you are 100 percent right, he can be in pretty good fights with a lot of guys.

Anyone else think Andrade has the tools to give Floyd a tough fight?

Sure, but he is naturally way too big for Floyd to fight imo. He gets up in the 70s' and 80's walking around. At 6'1" I would imagine he is having trouble with making 154. He needs some good fights yet besides Vanes to solidify his standing. He is trying to get them but that is tough to do these days.

Korobov has done f#ck all. Saul has fought two future HOFers. Has had close fights (however you had them scored) with notable champs in Austin & Erislandy. Korobov is fighting completely bs guys as recently as April.
