darren sutherland
Just caught up on Ringside from Thursday, can't believe it's been 5 years.
Lovely piece by the guys on Sky. Wonder what Kellie Maloney is thinking this week?
RIP Darren.

Kellie Maloney probably doesn't give a flying fornicate the attention seeking whore what she is!
Re: darren sutherland
Remember watching him spar down the gym not long before he took his own life.
Re: darren sutherland
Didn't Maloney have a heart attack/breakdown over it all? I imagine whatever her faults, Kellie will be going through pain and regret.Hagler2002 wrote:Kellie Maloney probably doesn't give a flying eff the attention seeking whore what she is!

I thought he had a 'heart attack' after his cash cow David Price got sparked?palooka wrote:Didn't Maloney have a heart attack/breakdown over it all? If he did have some sort of breakdown over Sutherland it was probably over the realisation he was never going to get the money back he'd been plauging him for!

I've got to say I agree with Hagler, or that's how I felt at the time when it came out how badly Maloney had treated Darren. Now he's this Kellie thing we've got to be sympathetic...it's pretty shabby.

Do we know what Frank actually did that was considered shabby ?
With the passing of time, I can't quite remember the facts. Wasn't there another person involved who'd left a horrible note for Darren, putting pressure on him and alluding to what Frank would do in certain scenarios ? Apologies if this is dredging up stuff best left in the past.

Frank had a heart attack after McDermott got robbed in the first Fury fight,im pretty sure he found Darren the next day
Re: darren sutherland
Here's a quote from an article in the telegraph you can find quickly on google.
“He said if he gave up he would have to pay Frank Maloney £75,000. He said Frank Maloney would destroy him and his family, and he would never get a job with anyone else.
I've a good aye for a mean little pudendum and Frank struck me that way long before his abuse of Darren Sutherland.

Re: darren sutherland
In Maloney's defence Sutherland was under contract and im sure he wanted to protect his own interests,im sure if he knew Darren was that low, something could have been fixed

Re: darren sutherland
Suicide is the leading cause of death amongst young men. Life has changed too quickly leaving many young men without a feeling of purpose and identity. Depression amongst young sportsmen is also big problem.

In my culture (gypsys) suicide by biggest part is cried shame on , in fact when i was growing up as a kid from what i can recall .. the very few times i have known someone take their own life very few mourners actually followed the deceased at the funeral, its looked on a shameful.
My opinion differs tho , each mans pain is his own .

Can you expand on that ? I'm intrigued.handsofstone wrote:In Maloney's defence Sutherland was under contract and im sure he wanted to protect his own interests,im sure if he knew Darren was that low, something could have been fixed

Also, I take it we're talking about a scenario (with Sutherland) where the signing on bonus for a top amateur going pro is subject to a contractual clause whereby the manager/promoter can demand it back under certain circumstances ? In Darren's case, presumably the 75k was a signing on fee and if Darren gave up boxing, he'd have to repay it, and some knob was ramming that "advice" down his throat at a tragically bad time.
If you don't pay the rent, you're out on the street; if you don't pay your mortgage, you'll lose your home; if you don't behave at work, they'll get rid. Such is life. If you are good enough as an amateur boxer to command a big signing on fee for turning pro, presumably you would generally accept that there are certain commitments wanted from you in return.

It's wrong to blame frank on this!!! The amount of fighters that get the jitters or lose there nerve is very common!!
It is a terrible thing to find a young man hanging as he did,it's a traumatic expieriance that will stay with him forever

Re: darren sutherland
Very , very dificult one , Suicide is quite common , my mates son done it , his mother found him , they have never recovered to this day , 10-12 years on .Personaly i thought it was a cowardly thing to do which left everyone else suffering , but on reflection he must have been mentaly unstable to do it to the parents he loved , .CiganoBoxer wrote:In my culture (gypsys) suicide by biggest part is cried shame on , in fact when i was growing up as a kid from what i can recall .. the very few times i have known someone take their own life very few mourners actually followed the deceased at the funeral, its looked on a shameful.
My opinion differs tho , each mans pain is his own .
I know another guy , his father who was his best mate , rang him and asked him to come round has quick has he can , when he got there , his dad had done the deed , and he walked right in to it .. These are not the actions of someone in a normal state of mind ,, Its a very very difficult and complex one . and a tragedy for all concerned .

Get a grip. Franks a guy, always will be. He himself doesn't even know if he wants to be Kellie
I honestly can't believe folk are justifying Franks actions when the end result was a family devastated by a suicide. Absurd.
Re: darren sutherland
Er joking.... You can't blame frank over Darren's illness, he was the same in the ams & people around him new. I was told frank got him a flat in Bromley( nice area )with two bedrooms for guests etc & his mum didn't see it fit & chose out a one bed for him. People who suffer from depression should never be isolated & he never really should of gone pro with his condition

All the more reason to see little Frank as a pudendum for threatening the poor guy, since as you've pointed out, his condition wasn't a secret. The way Frank and his cronies went about it is criminal. Like how you'd expect heavy debt collectors to behave. He's a little shit, this Kellie nonsense only makes him look even more self centred and ruthless IMO.
Re: darren sutherland
There's is no saying he ain't a wretch or still a wretch but to blame him for the lad sadly taking his life ain't really fair imo.
Maloney ain't no gangster believe me!!

Re: darren sutherland
He did turn pro though and he did accept Franks money , you can't accept all that money and then turn round and say , Naaaw , don't want to box anymore .. And you can't blame Frank he did'nt know he was suicidal , and if others did his parents freinds , whoever , why were they not there with him , keeping a eye on him .
It was Tragic , but not anyones fault , people always look to blame someone , its just human nature , but i'm sure if Frank would off known or suspected it was going to happen , he would of at the least cantacted his parents and said , you better come and look after him , even if only to protect his investment , . IF the parents suspected , i'm sure they would of said to Frank were worried , and coming to see him , keep an eye on him .
Like i said Tragic , but no ones fault .
And Kellie is'nt his name its Frank . He was born and named a man , just cos he puts a dress on does'nt make him a woman so until he chops his knackers off , and they drill him an hole , he's a man .
If he wants to change his name theres a deed poll , until then his legal name is Frank, and Kellie is just a nickname he gave himself ,,, he may change it next week to Rebbeca , Sparkles or something .
But whatever he calls himself , it don't make him responsible for someone taking there own life .
