Bayless made it a crap fight
Bayless made it a crap fight
Mayweather held Maidana every time he got close with many times Maidana had a free hand and was punching and Bayless jumped in every time never letting them fight on the inside which is a part of boxing, something Bayless knows nothing about.

Re: Bayless made it a crap fight
After watching some recent fights, 2 of which took place tonight, I've come to the realisation that persistent holding is perfectly acceptable.
Re: Bayless made it a crap fight
I didn't watch the prelims but holding is against the rules. Bayless didn't ever warn Mayweather like he knew if he did, he would never work a Mayweather fight again or is on his payroll. Think how much better the fight could have been had the ref let them work on the inside.Boxing Prospect wrote:After watching some recent fights, 2 of which took place tonight, I've come to the realisation that persistent holding is perfectly acceptable.
Re: Bayless made it a crap fight
The problem is the top 4 recognised P4P fighters (arguably) - Mayweather, Klitschko, Ward, Rigondeaux are all defensive minded, boring fighters who smother work and stop fighters fighting against them.
It'd be really good for the sport if someone like Golovkin went on to be P4P number 1. It might encourage mentalities to change.
The question I'd ask is - with the rules as they are and referees happy to allow spoiling is it possible for a modern day P4P number one to be a come forward fighter?

This is the same argument some had with the Mayweather-Hatton fight, that Hatton wasn't allowed to fight on the inside. Floyd always seems to receive the benefit of the doubt from the referees. He holds and isn't warned...he uses his forearms and is never deducted a point.JMac wrote:I didn't watch the prelims but holding is against the rules. Yes, I noticed that he'd break them very quickly when they were close.

I don't think Bayless ever allowed them to break out of a clinch on their own.crusader wrote:Yes, I noticed that he'd break them very quickly when they were close.

Exactly, Bayless looked like Cortez tonight.Baby Face Finster wrote:This is the same argument some had with the Mayweather-Hatton fight, that Hatton wasn't allowed to fight on the inside. Yup and all cuz Floyd wine and comlpained like a bitch and got to the ref.
Re: Bayless made it a crap fight
I'm a huge Bayless fan, and I KNOW that Nevada has by far the best refs in the world.
With that said. Bayless has been slipping a bit lately. He's not on his game like he was about 2 years ago.

There are some very good refs outside of Vegas but you don't see them because Nevada only uses Nevada refs which happens to be where many of the top fights occur.chuck9788 wrote:I'm a huge Bayless fan, and I KNOW that Nevada has by far the best refs in the world.

Or wined and dined?
Re: Bayless made it a crap fight
Even though it wouldn't affect the decision, even Teddy Atlas who's always riding Floyds nuts said Bayless did a terrible job, was pro Floyd, and broke them up when he didn't have to.

Re: Bayless made it a crap fight
yea he seperated them pretty quick....... But lets face it Maidana is a limited, slow fighter who lost his one trick. Dude literally has one kind of punch and if it doesnt land he's got nothing.
Pretty much the standard Mayweather opponent nowadays, expect another slow, plodding, loopy puncher like Danny Garcia. No defense, no brains but some pop to hype up a PPV
KEEP THAT ZERO, FLOYD.

Re: Bayless made it a crap fight
Bayless did his job, unlike Weeks the first fight. Do you think Bayless didn't watch the first fight knowing that when the illegal crap happened was when they were clinched? If you want a clean fight, you do your best to prevent fouls. He didn't just warn Maidana, he warned Floyd as well. To say Bayless was basically paid off shows you are just butt hurt and whining because Maidana got schooled.

Umm ... Manny was considered #1 p4p for a few years ...Ian1973 wrote:The problem is the top 4 recognised P4P fighters (arguably) - Mayweather, Klitschko, Ward, Rigondeaux are all defensive minded, boring fighters who smother work and stop fighters fighting against them.

So, you think that if the p4p #1 fighter likes to get hit in the face, then other people will like it too? I hate getting hit in the face, and I would try my best to avoid it, regardless of who makes it seem cool. If that makes me a coward, then fine.
I guess the warrior's section of the hospital is the brain damaged unit. That where the real fighters end up ... right?
Re: Bayless made it a crap fight
Sorry but that was not incidental clinches when both boxers are throwing punches. I could care less who won the fight but I want it to be officiated fair and Bayless did not warn Mayweather for holding once. Some ref's would have DQ'd him had he been somebody else. Mayweather would grab Maidana as soon as he got close. If a boxer has one arm free while the other arm is being held but he is landing punches with the free hand, the ref should not break them but Bayless was so quick to break them as soon as Mayweather grabbed an arm, neck or whatever he could get a hold of. Infighting is a part of boxing but Bayless would not allow it. I don't care what happened in their previous fight. Every fight is different. Bayless sucked last night. Had he allowed Maidana to fight on the inside the fight would have been closer but Mayweather still probably would have won.Badhusker wrote:Bayless did his job, unlike Weeks the first fight. bayless is gifted. he can see into the future. it's the only explanation for breaking the fighters even before they clinched.
