At this time GGG vs. PBF?

Post by MiltonAlien »

First of all, I don't think that this fight will happen...

But just Fantasy Match-Up, Gennady Golovkin vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. at this moment.

Who picks?

***

I picked pbf before, but at this time, my thoughts are changed and I picks GGG because I thinks that floyd's legs are gone.

You will never see Floyd step in the ring with Triple G. Floyd may be illiterate but he's not stupid. He knows the G-Train would badly punish him and send him to the hospital, and I don't blame him for avoiding Triple G, especially with an unbeaten record to protect.

I wouldn't call not fighting a guy in a division you've never fought in "avoiding".

Whatever you want to call it Floyd will never agree to a fight with Triple G. He'd be praised for his guts to fight him but it would prove to be a stupid decision. Absolutely no way Floyd wouldn't get destroyed in that fight.

I agree Golovkin would beat him, but there would be no reason for him to take the fight. It's not, nor has it ever been, his division.

Now if he picks a weaker middleweight title holder then there could be room for criticism...

Even at 154, GGG would destroy Floyd. Floyd would have to force Golovkin to go even further down in weight to beat him.

FMJ is avoiding GGG like GGG is avoiding Marco Huck.
I take Huck over GGG all day, but I guess the G-Train is too scared to get in the ring and take his beating.

That's spanning too many divisions...more like Ward, whom GGG's detractors say he's avoiding too. Boxing fans are fickle.

It's not a big stretch really. GGG began at middleweight and is in his athletic prime. FMJ began at super feather, is past his prime, and gives up size to most other ranked welterweights.

No, it is not. Floyd owns a belt at LMW, and GGG is ready to move down to 154. Of course, Floyd is really a WW, but it would be just one weight class difference, and GGG would be weakened by making weight.

P.S. If Huck and GGG met at 175, that would be Huck's last fight. If GGG and Kovalev met at 168, I would not want to be in Kovalev's skin. If Ward and GGG met at 165, I would confidently put money on GGG.

Floyd began at super feather- he's already jumped up a bunch of weight classes and is in the twilight of his career. GGG began at middleweight and is still there.

It doen't matter where he started. His natural weight now is 147, and he is not small for that weight. His reach is longer than GGG's.

Gillermo Jones started at 147, and now he fights at 200. So, if he is offered a fight at 215, he should be saying that he can't do that because he started as a welter ?

Yes it matters what weights a fighter has competed at, that's a commonly accepted concept in boxing. Jones is very notable for starting out at welter and rising to cruiser- that's why he's been called 'the incredible expanding man.' It's very irregular for someone to do what he did.
It's already rare for someone to rise through as many weight classes and win titles as FMJ has. The ones who do it are considered very special fighters. For GGG, the equivalent in terms of weight differences would be winning titles at all the divisions from middleweight through cruiserwieght.
Beating John Ruiz is a good accomplishment for a career heavyweight, but RJJ beating him after starting out as a middleweight was considered amazing.

Canello is slow though I've always thought he was tailor made for Mayweather.

Just last year, Floyd schooled Canelo at 152. Not sure how is it different from fighting GGG at 154.

It's another step up for someone who's already stepped up many times before and is basically in decline at this point. If GGG moved into the 154 division and FMJ fought him, that would be very admirable (he'd still get a lot of flak for not fighting him at middle), but it's unreasonable to just expect more from someone who's already done so much and is speaking of retirement. If FMJ retired now, he's already a great fighter- it's all icing at this point.

He's the lineal, reigning, unified, 2x champ at SWW. Why does a guy with such credentials need those excuses for a fight proposed at that weight? That's one hell of a lineal paper champ

GGG's team was not in favor of a fight with Lara even at 160. Why? Was it money? Not like his style? I thought he would fight anyone, or couldn't get any good fights? No surprise he (and everyone and their brother) wants a fight with Floyd.

Chuck is right, Floyd does not want, or should not do a fight with a full fledged 160 lber in his prime at this point in his career. He will be 38 the next time he fights. A lot of guys want Floyd to lose so fornicating bad they make fantasy match-ups in their minds for their own enjoyment. Floyd isn't even a big welter. He has not weighed more than 150 in any fight, and at least 3 opponents have weighed 165 fight night, and a few more near that. BHop wants the money too at 160. Get a freaking grip guys.

Call Floyd scared or call him smart.

Call Floyd scared or call him smart.

Floyd is smart he always has been and the older he gets the smarter he needs to be. He avoids the fights he's likely not to win and he chooses the right time to fight people. He always knew he would beat Maidana rematch, Maidana is too crude and Floyd is too mobile even at his age.

The Pacquiao fight may well happen. Floyd knows that although he himself may be on the slide he hasn't slid to the degree Pacquiao has. A few years ago that was a real 50-50 fight, now its 70-30 Floyd.

Regardless of weight Floyd knows he will not beat Golovkin there is absolutely no chance that fight will happen.

I don't call Floyd a coward, I don't call him scared, I call him realistic and smart enough to understand what is and what isn't realistic.

2 MD and one UD where 2 judges gave maidana 4 rds and 1 5 rds.

maidana is a poor mans golovkin.

what do you think?

I say at middleweight golovkin murder floyd within 6.

at 154 a dyhidrated golovkin beats floyd + the bought ref via late round tko.
