Seems like a good bloke to me. Does a load of work with the youth in Bolton and travels abroad and does aid work and doesn't go on about it. He's alright, he has self belief, that's probably what's got him as far as he has bit I think that's the same for any top fighter. He's hardly likely to sell fights by saying "I'm a bit shit, me" is he?
*wow there's a swearing autocorrect on here!!*

The real problem with Khan is more that he seems to want fame more than success. He always acts like you are supposed to like him. He seems to want to be loved as much as Ricky Hatton was.

If you act like you deserve that kind of affection, you rarely get it.

I think with time he will . He's acted like a knob but he's young , Hatton was a publicity machine , who was always aware of his image and acted accordingly , remember the ticket fiasco with his loyal fans

Oh yeah, Hatton played up to it somewhat. No doubt.

My point is, Khan wants to be that popular, but doesn't really seem to have the charisma or ability to pull it off that Ricky had. All Khan does is pop up every so often and remind you that he's great, y'know in case you forgot.

Don't know what it is but the more i see him interviewed , the more i like him he always seems to have this gormless look on his face , sort of looking at you and not knowing what he's done wrong

I just think the poor kid is learning has he goes along , remember when most 13-14 year olds were learning arithmatic , this kid was staring into space dreaming of when he was world champion . And we always learn has we go . Hatton on the other hand was being groomed all the way .

khan gets stick for saying he wants to fight mayweather yet when froch calls himself "an international superstar" it's not considered flash and his complete lack of being able to admit that groves troubled him winds me up , but that's an old thread that i should just let go :P

Plusses

One of most talented, brave, courageous ,tough boxers to come out of Britain .has had a good career ,financially an excellent one.has suffered racism but risen above it.supported his family well too which earns him points in my book.

Negatives
A phoney egomaniac.started out acting the well spoken boy ,trying to be all things to all men, yet the fakery shines through British Asian and white British males alike dislike him the constant kiss and tell stories, flash excessive lifestyle, and money orientated only career hasn't helped.although he is in the hottest division in boxing he wants to con his way to a mayweather fight without beating a top ten guy a huge shame given his talent, has anyone made Garcia look an amateur early on like khan.although he's had lessons lately in how to talk on tv his arrogance and smug way comes through talking in the third person. Just too many hypocrisies with this guy.
When are you going to get over your infatuation for Khan ? Pointless thread again, most boxers are Egotists, that's why they refer to themselves like another person, most big earners are flash and money orientated, every fighter in the welter division would try to con their way into a big money Mayweather fight, confidence can be classed as arrogance, what about Broner, Mayweather and many other boxing stars, footballers can be worse sometimes, give it a rest.

Actually now you mention it, you're right. I never did get round to watching that one. I meant to.

Okay, I retract my comment. Khan IS a big enough bellend to turn me off watching him fight.

Mmmm , But at this present time i suppose we could say he is an international superstar.. He definetly was'nt when he was calling out Calagzie , who was , just before Joe was retireing.

They all do it , just that some get hung for it and some get revered .

Call me crazy but I agree with those who say he could outwork Mayweather.

Might not get the decision mind.

khan & brook should be fighting each other.

winner take on floyd (if he goes for it).

Unfortunately, Brook can't walk. People seem to think he got a nick shaving or twisted an ankle. It won't be until he gets back into serious training that it will be seen how bad his injury is. He was saying he had no feeling in his thigh - is he going to be able to train hard? How will it affect his balance, power or movement in the ring? Khan should forget about Brook for now. If Eddie is thinking of making that fight next, it's just one big spin of the wheel, or his is cashing Brook in with the chance of staying on board with Khan for Sky's sake.

CheckHook wrote:The problem I find when reading about people's dislike of Khan, it can usually be applied to half of the boxing elite, but for some reason people cry a lot more when Khan does it.... When he is fighting someone mediocre people are all over it on here, but there are a ton of fighters that get a pass for fighting shite opposition. Before people start talking about Khan trying to sneak his way into big money fights, they should look at that card the other week featuring two of his conquerors, Garcia and Peterson..... I don't really get the need for these types of threads singling fighters out for something that everyone in the sport does.

Or is Khan the first person to live a flash lifestyle, take easy fights when they're available and talk about himself in the third person? Boxing fans have to be about the most hypocritical fans out there.

Its also funny to see how all these types of threads come with a disclaimer first. Usually something along the lines of "Sure he beat xxxx" or "He has a big heart". Routinely followed by a personal attack on some young kid without an education who isn't doing things the way you want them to.

How many boxers say they'd beat Floyd Mayweather when they are still fighting 4-rounders?

I just find Khan to be a bit up himself. At one point I read an interview with Khan comparing himself to Lewis Hamilton. Saying him and Lewis were a new breed of sporting heroes for British fans. Seemed a bit unnecessary, because as far as I can tell, the interview had got nothing to do with Lewis Hamilton. He wasn't there, hadn't been asked about nor could I fathom any other particular connection between the two, other than the one Khan made. They were both sports stars from Britain. It was round about Lewis Hamilton's debut season, when people were still finding him new and exciting. It was almost as if Khan was trying to give himself some cool celebrity friends.

Khan isn't a big enough bellend to turn me off watching him fight, but he does come out with some cack. He's the sort of person who you don't mind watching fight, as long as you don't have to listen to him being interviewed afterwards. :OhYes:

You will probably find that the comparison came from the journalist saying: "Do you reckon guys like you and Lewis Hamilton are a new breed of British sporting exile?" Bet it wasn't written by a boxing writer.

Worth noting that unlike Hamilton, guys like Khan, Froch, Hatton and Calzaghe aren't tax exiles.

Without Khan I think British boxing would have been a much duller place these last few years.

Agreed, even a washed up Barrera would have done Khan in if it wasn't for that cut, he wobbled Khan with a jab, and walked through his shots with ease. They stopped it ASAP when they realised that Barrera was probably going to be able to fight on, and wasn't going to get knocked out.

You have a strange memory, you should wash that fight again. If you believe Khan was "wobbled by a jab" in that fight, Barrera had been rocked about 20 times. Barrera was far too small for Khan, a natural welterweight on the way uo v a natural super-bantamweight at the end of his career, end of story.

It is easy to pick tiny moments of a fight and read huge things into it. By that same way, some might say that Mayweather was saved by the bell at the end of the third at the weekend.

For the record, when a young, British level Carl Froch called out Calzaghe, everyone DID call him a bellend, and up himself. It just so happens that he's backed his talk in the intervening years. All that Khan hasn't done is a really stellar win; he's had some very good wins, and of course some brutal defeats, but Maidana is his marquee result. That's why he wants Floyd so bad.

if it was up to amir, by now he would have fought juan manuel marquez, timothy bradley, and floyd mayweather

as a boxer - good but he has been carefully matched up all the way to winning a world title while he was with frank and after he left him, we have all seen that he has struggled in some fights.

as a person - an arrogant boy who has had all the time he should have needed to work on his ability to talk to the media and to other people, has he done this ? not a bloody chance, in short appears as a very self centred person.

vs mayweather - maidana proved it in their first fight, you need to attack Floyd. khan does not have the same power as maidana to make him go on the defensive, he has speed yes, Floyd is faster and a better counter puncher and has more experience against a wider variety of opponents
