Boxing what ifs.

Post by VG_Addict »

Ever wonder how the sport would have changed if certain events happened differently, or didn't happen?

Like what if Tyson didn't go to jail? What if Ali didn't return? What if Salvador Sanchez didn't die in the car crash?

Ali's career gots many interesting what if's for boxing, him & our society to some degree. What if he had just joined the military? What if he retired or had been locked up for 5, 10, 20 years during that Vietnam bs? What if he had retired after George or Leon II? What if he wasnt such a sh!t talker? What if he never met or @ least worked with Don King? Etc & so on, could do this all day w/o even starting to think about the answers lol.

What if Floyd were more Sugar Ray Leonard/Oscar De La Hoya-ish? What if Oscar had been more like Floyd, Oscar "Pesos" De La Hoya? What if Ricardo Lopez had been born to be a 147lber? What if Ricky Hatton had been born Rita Hatton?

What if Masao Oba hadn't died when he was still a boxing baby?
What if Bolado hadn't died when he looked set to be one of the great amateurs?

What if Charley Burley would have fought Ray Robinson? What if Harry Greb would have gotten fights against Jack Dempsey or Georges Carpentier? What if someone finds the Greb-Walker fight in their basement? What happens if Ketchel never died, continued his career, and had a rematch with Langford? What happens if friendships didn't help prevent Graziano-LaMotta and Norton-Frazier? What if Armstrong wins his fight with Ceferino Garcia?

if salvador had not been death in the car crash he would have be the second biggest name in mexican boxing history behind chavez, thats how great his career would have turned out.

if tyson would not have been sent to prison, he would have wrecked moorer and bowe and get a ud over holyfield.

if castillo would have got the win he deserved vs floyd, floyd would have been more silent and i think would have even fought pacquiao, because his protected 0 would have been gone and that 0 is the main reason why he never fought prime pacquiao. the 0 is everything, his self and status to him, otherwise why would he say no to the biggest payday any boxer would have ever had, we talking about 100 - 150 million. you dont say no to this, except you are addicted to your 0 losses.

He'd have gone to jail or mental institution within two years or there would be a trail of damaged people in his wake if he was somehow immune to prosecution.

What if Mike Tyson had stayed with Kevin Rooney?
His defensive head movement would progress to such a phenomenal level that his movements would surpass the speed of light, making him a pioneer of time travel.

What if Witherspoon didn't take a dive against Bonecrusher?
He would have got to Tyson before his unbeatable time travelling prime and destroyed him.

The biggest what if for me is what if Marcel Cerdan hadn't died in the plane crash on the way to the rematch with Jake LaMotta. So many great possible match ups went up in flames the day that plane crashed in the Azores. I'm sure his P4P standing would be much much greater.

the mroe interresting tyson question would be.....

what if cus had been a younger man and met tyson in his 40 and trained him all along his career :OhYes:

a prime tyson, a hard trained tyson with longevity just like for example hopkins, who maintained to be in perfect physical and mental shape all his career. scary thought. moorer, bowe and holyfield would have mayor problems.....

Agree with this. I am almost certain he would have beaten LaMotta in a rematch and likely gone on to beat a number of other fine middleweights. His inside game was nasty and the way he took out Zale was brutal.

What if George Foreman wasn't on a dehydration diet and had beaten Jimmy Young?

GF likely would have beaten Norton again.

Foreman vs. Holmes in the summer of '78. Wow !

What if Wladimir & Vitali fought? What if Floyd had lost by split decision to Oscar? What if there was only one championship belt?

I really like this.

Now I'm really going to stretch the limits.
What if WWII never happened? How many successful title defences would Joe Louis have made?

Would his career have been prolonged without that period if inactivity, or would he have burned out?

How would his relationship with the IRS have played out?

I'm not sure that his actions for racial equality in the US armed forces would be missed, it seems to me he doesn't get enough recognition for this anyway.
But I believe he made a more tangible contribution to racial equality in broader society as a result of his quiet, determined acts of protest than Ali did in the 60's.

It's interesting to try and imagine how American society would have been different and how Ali would have been percieved in this hypothetical scenario.
