FMJ: The most overrated fighter of all time

Post by Luckybattles »

Cant believe how people are so heavily influenced by the hype. This guy fights an opponent who was on the verge of journeyman status a couple years ago. a blown up lightweight with a lot of heart and a penchant for putting up exciting battles with little in regards for defense. For any great fighter, this would be a showcase fight. a dream come true. Instead we witness one of the most boring fights in recent memory. Or at least one of the most boring fights since FMJ was last in the ring. All the holding, running, and time wasting was repugnant. Don't get me wrong, I would be truly impressed with this performance against GGG or Andre Ward but Maidana? Cant even imagine this guy being in the top 20 All time greats. Now they will want to make 100 million off pacman. Eff this. Are people that stupid to pay for it. I guess so

I'd say he's one of the best defensive fighters of all time. But his resume doesn't compare to many of the other ATGs. And that matters.

Having watched All Access leading up to the Maidana rematch,im now convinced that he's becoming even more of a twat than Broner

If he has so much money why is he still so obsessed with showing it off?

Its like losing your virginity then recording the lass confirming she's slept with you, then going about telling all and sundry your no longer a virgin and showing everyone the recording

Who gives a eff, move on its bored the tits off me

Looks like he traded out Justin Bieber for Warren Buffett. I'm kinda surprised Buffett allowed himself to be associated with Floyd. Maybe he is ignorant to much of his antics.

Juan manuel marquez
canelo alvarez
Miguel cotto
shane mosley
ricky hatton
Oscar de la hoya
zab Judah
Arturo gatti
jose luis Castillo 2x
diego corrales

If wins over these guys, (some who will be in the hall of fame) make you overrated. Then we should all aim for such mediocrity.

the funny part is, is that floyd seems to be a total narcisst.

and everything is one big lie.

the warrior mentality which he is nowhere, proof are his fights.

the self portrait of himself in public, where he says money is only a persona, in real life he is a family man. hahaha....yeah right, a family man, that travels with like 8 women to miami and acts stupid in night clubs throwing money around like he was 25.

its just all one big joke...and floyd and his fans seem the only ones to find it cool, when obviously its more absurd than cool.

Agreed. Dempsey was a great legend but not a great fighter.

KOing fighters can certainly be an aspect of greatness, but a fighter can be great if he wins decisively and consistently. Not a fan of Mayweather, just saying...

Leonard rates over Floyd, but it's not a landslide by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah, the 35 year old Leonard that got dropped on his ass and lost a landslide UD to Terry Norris.

How did I misunderstand the concept if the topic is that he is overrated and I responded by posting a list of high quality /hall of fame opponents that he has beaten?

I am not a personal fan of Mayweathers...but....the guy can box and fight and is certainly one of the greats of the modern game which is undeniably different to the "sport" (or business) of 30 years ago and beyond.

But Mayweather fights in todays business and todays business means having at least 4 world champions in zillions of weight divisions. He has done this incredibly successfully and has used the system cleverly and to his advantage.

You can argue would he have beat this fighter, would he have beat that fighter but the truth is we will never know. all we do know is that he has been the dominant and most talked figure in the game over the last 10 years. Technically one of the best boxers I have ever seen in relation to the opposition he has had.

TV companies do not pay the purses he gets without their being a very good reason.

You can be overrated and have an incredible resume.

Whether someone is overrated depends on whether people have a higher opinion of them than they deserve.

Many more people trash him than worship him. As far as the 'diehard' fans and media goes he's underrated by more. Anybody that rates him from 20-50 all time has it right.

I couldn't agree more with the OP. Money shot is a good fighter, very defensive and gets so protected by Vegas refs. It's basically never a fair fight. Two against one. All of the 80s big four would've beaten him in a neutral environment or maybe even in a biased environment.

As long as Duran was in the mood.

if a excellent fighter comes in 100 years times are we still gonna compare them to hearns hagler and the "golden era", when none of us were around!!!

if this theory is right then, carl lewis is greater than usain bolt!!!!

never come across a more hated boxer than fmj, even if he beats, pacman will be same hate

if anyone else beat alvarez, maidana, ortiz, mosely, cotto people will be saying how good they are

im not a floyd fan, find his fights boring and tend to sleep, but its true, haters gonna hate!!!!!

Lol I was gonna to bring this up

Teddy & Floyd got more in common than Teddy would like to believe, they both love hearing themselves talk.

I don't think Floyd would've beaten the Terry Norris that beat Leonard neither.

I didn't hear you guys giving Teddy poo when he was riding Floyd nuts for the last few years. This probably the only time he said anything remotely against Floyd.

This.

I bet Floyd has more fans in the audience wanting to see him lose than anyone since Muhammad Ali.
