Is Kid Galahad the new Junior Witter?

Post by David McAllister »

I was watching Kid Galahad last night and I noticed that the leisure centre where they were fighting wasn't full. I know when Junior Witter was also fighting he couldn't sell tickets and that was a major factor in him never getting the big fights with Ricky Hatton etc Junior was seen as high risk for low reward even when he held his World Title he couldn't sell tickets!!

Will this be the same for Kid Galahad? If he can't sell out a leisure centre when he is the European Champion I really don't see him getting to the stage where he will suddenly be able to sell out arenas! That means the likes of Quigg and Frampton will always have the powers to decide wether they want to fight him or not because they will always be the ones that take the majority of the money to the table!

Kid Galahad has some great skills, is awkward and would have a chance against either so Quigg or Frampton really want to take the risk? Just like Ricky Hatton didn't with Junior Witter because he wasn't a big enough draw?

I think anybody that underestimates Galahad in the British mix would be making a huge mistake.

Kid galahad should stick with hennessy big fish in a small pond and build support on terrestrial tv. He has two issues as a headliner he is a low weight and he isn't a puncher.

The venue was full earlier in the night but as Adam Etches was the biggest ticket seller on the card, a lot of people seemed to have left after his fight.

I do appreciate the Kid's skills and he's a great little boxer......

......but the atmosphere was just so incredibly low key (often spolit by a moronic Saturday night drunk constantly chanting in the background) and I'll admit to channel hopping a good deal because the fight was so deathly dull. I spotted Richard Poxon in a prime ringside seat, variously reviewing his phone or looking down at his feet. It was not exactly electrifying.

Barry wins these kind of fights in his own particular way....very easily, clinically but without really giving anyone a good night out....and that's a huge problem for him. He's ready to face the best and should just accept a sensible offer from Quigg and show us what he is really capable off.

As Mr Wake said, the arena was probably full. People come to see one boxer and then go. It looks worse than it was. Etches and Jenkins shift tickets.

I understand that people leave but it's not like it's a big arena where they sell 5000+ tickets, the Ponds Forge holds about 2000. If Etches and Jenkins sell loads of tickets how much realistically did Kid Galahad sell? Thats what i mean when he is in a similar position to Witter/Hatton when he wants to fight the bigger boys in his division.

I'm not sure mate, you hear mixed reports about his ticket sales but he has the support of SKY television behind him so that would make the difference imo if they ever had to fight.

I was there last week, and he sells a good amount, nowhere near enough for the MEN, though.
