Re: Kell brook amateur record...
If the above record is correct, thats a win/loss ratio of 60/40.
40% loss ratio as an amatuer, I'm very surprised by that. Can anyone provide more info on Kell's amatuer career?

Sorry, I stand corrected.
Its still a big loss ratio, not what I would have expected from a 33 & 0 pro with a genuine world tirle to their name.
Who can tell us a bit about Brooks amatuer career?

Amateurs is a different ball game....even the great Floyd has a load of losses as an amateur.

Pugilist specialist or even parson cross be best placed on here to give an accurate list of amateur honours, personally kel was a slow burner for me early on but as he got to 15/16 started to really mature, won juniors at brid spa I think same night fewkey lost to Selkirk(which caused a mini riot!) and khan beat Nicky smedley. Saw fewkes and kel box twice.. One a piece but then kel beat him again but wasn't there that night

Anyone who's been to amateur shows will have seen the youngsters without man's strength and power going at it hammer and tong, they often struggle to hurt each other with the big gloves on and wins and losses are traded between the same fighters often. When kids go through puberty the 'real' wins and losses begin to occur.

The gloves arnt much bigger,10oz for anyone under 69,12 oz for the rest.
You see quite a few ko's in the amateur with the bigger lads.
But you're right, sometimes a "kid" of 16 will be much more developed than his opponent,so you do get more losses through that. Sounds like a pretty good amateur record to me.as he would have in the main been boxing the top kids about.
Re: Kell brook amateur record...
Did he ever fight kahn as an amateur? Was kahn classed as a league above at that level?

Alright, Dave/Mick, I more meant the really young lads (11 and 12 year-olds) not usually being able to do too much damage unless they've started to shoot up. How's the gym going, which kids do we need to watch out for?DAVE2005 wrote:Sklar wrote:Anyone who's been to amateur shows will have seen the youngsters without man's strength and power going at it hammer and tong, they often struggle to hurt each other with the big gloves on and wins and losses are traded between the same fighters often.
