In Showtime's defense Emanuel Clottey is a bs fight so it'll be a minute before they feel bad about this move & they didn't really have anything to offer him in regards to a big fight outside of being outboxed by Floyd again. Saul gots superfights with Miguel & possibly GGG with HBO. If Julio Jr would quit smoking pot & eating hot pockets maybe they could make the biggest PPV of all time. It'd been a sh!tty deal for Showtime to offer him the money HBO surely did for the bs fight options out there with them.

The exclusive boxing deals are about as real as long term contracts in the NFL.

Then again, fighters, and the people who surround them aren't the smartest people in the world. Let me take that back, they may be smart, but they lack the type of scumbag intelligence necessary for business deals in this world.

I just do not know how much appeal Alverez will have after getting ko'd by GGG.
I do like the prospect of Alvarez-Cotto.But I am not sure it is a definate win for Saul.
This could be a very short long term contract.

So now HBO have nailed down both GoldenBoy & TopRank promotions? Where does that leave Showtime?

I think HBO just gots Saul unless I missed something in that article. GBP still has its relationship with Showtime.

the marriage between Showtime and Golden Boy, which came together when former Golden Boy lawyer Stephen Espinoza was named Hershman's replacement at the network, appears to be over.
Now, Showtime is left with Mayweather, of course, and fighters associated with Al Haymon, This isn't an outright bad thing, but Mayweather is 37 and has just two fights left on his contract, and Haymon has been getting away with murder at Showtime, with the murder victims being fans of competitive matchmaking.

If this is true it leaves Showtime with relatively slim pickings with Floyd & Haymon guys but the big question is... who would promote the fights Showtime air?

Haymon has 100+ fighters, so hardly slim pickings.
Mayweather has a promoters license.

Has Mayweather ever ran a promotion out from under the umbrella of Golden Boy?

Chris Mannix ‏@ChrisMannixSI 12m
Showtime's @StephenEspinoza tells SI that @OscarDeLaHoya made a verbal agreement for a multi-fight deal with @SHOsports and reneged on it.
Uh oh :oo

Someone needs to ask Stephen if Oscar was wearing a skirt when he made that agreement, that might be the issue.

I really don't get how the GB/Heymon relationship works. It's almost like the guys managed by Heymon fight for their own sub-promoter. I'm glad to see GB on better terms with HBO but it does seem like they Heymon guys like Stevenson, Quillin, Garcia aren't really affected.

Obviously my first thought is Floyd/Pac. My mind is still a bit boggled that it hasn't happened yet. How is everyone so willing to leave all that money on the table?

Yeah for us common folk it is unfathomable to even consider leaving 100 plus million just sitting there.
But for more reasons than anyone of us can imagine it does just that.sickening if you ask me.

It is going to be really interesting to see how this all plays out. Showtime has to be furious with oscar but at the same time, all of their fights are golden boy fights with fighters not signed to golden boy. So are they going to turn around and blacklist golden boy, and if so what happens with all of these haymon fighters? Does someone else come in and start promoting all of them?

Heyman is the promoter. He just can't promote fights so he does it through Golden Boy (for now). None of those guys are actually signed to golden boy though with the exception of canelo and a couple others.

I thought Heymon was a manager, not a promoter. If he were a promoter he wouldn't need GB, correct?

I think he's implying thats the ultimate goal. Promoting.

I suspect Al will stick to managing. He's getting like 10% of some of the biggest names right now & adding more every week. Why risk money promoting, just advise & cash your 10% checks (or w/e his cut is) off of some of the biggest money makers in the sport. I think Al likes to play the background so him promoting seems unlikely. Maybe he gets Richard to do the dirty work @ some point, but I don't suspect anything is changing with Al's job for awhile.

It sounds like the plan is for Schaefer to be the promoter and Heymon the manager and for them to work hand-in-hand. Of course, this has to wait for Schaefer's non-compete and any legal proceedings to finish. It also seems like a legally dubious arrangement.

I saw something about Lou DiBella is one of Al's promoter for the upcoming shows his fighters are gonna be on. I kinda feel like Al isn't as a ambitious as we think he is with taking over boxing, but yea I'm sure when Richard is off punishment whenever that is he'll be promoting Al's guys likely through Mayweather Promotions if Floyd & Al are still cool at least.

Wonder how much of Canelos move to HBO had to do with the battle over the mexican fight dates.

We know showtime was gonna choose Floyd over canelo as far as granting those dates so maybe Canelo and GB said eff it let's go to HBO and do battle.

Impressive how he's going to HBO so that he can get some good opponents, which I fully support, and then the mighty Clottey is the first killer out of the gate. Canelo's truly going hard now!
That's next level sh*t.

Small time shows headlines by the likes of J'leon Love?

Do you think Floyd has the promotional ability to run the kind of PPV mega-event he himself fights on, and what Showtime expect? I think the answer is no, or he would be doing it himself already.

If Oscar has jumped into bed with Bob Arum & HBO, to me it looks like the endgame for ShowTime PPV's. Pacquiao, Cotto, Canelo, all HBO. Who else other than Floyd realistically has PPV selling power? The only other name outwith them i recall fighting on a PPV lately was Marquez vs Bradley.

I don't think Floyd has the ability to run a small promotional event alone.
Why do you think Ellerbe has gone? With Schaefer working to get completely free of the GBP contract mess, that would open up new possibilities.
