Who are your favorite boxers?

Thanks for that...did you hear that Augie was making
A comeback??
A comeback??
Re: Who are your favorite boxers?
I saw Augie a couple of weeks ago, he looks great BUT I hope Damon Feldman doesn't get him hurt..
Pantellas is almost 71 years old.
I feel guilty that I left off of my favorites list :Mario Saurennann, Arthur Kettles, Gerald Hayes, Miguel Barreto, Dickie Diveronica, Paolo Rosi, Johnny Busso, William Watson, Micky Ward, Emmanuel Burton.

Re: Who are your favorite boxers?
Here's some of mine:
Gunboat Smith: read about him in "In This Corner" by Heller
Young Griffo: the best alcoholic fighter of all time. Griffo would show up drunk for fights, and could even be seen drinking wine in his corner b/t rounds. They still couldn't find the enigmatic Griffo; the original Will-O-the-Wisp.
Floyd Patterson: fun fighter to watch, and there never was a nicer, more humble man.
Carmen Basillio: his fights w/ Robinson are some of the best ever. Carmen took on the Mob to keep his name clean in the boxing world.
Roberto Duran: Duran was a bully who bullied people above him. He was a bully for the little guy.
Manny Pacquiao: Manny is thrilling to watch and never shys away from top competition
Bob Fitzsimmons: "The bigger they come, the harder they fall." Fitz was one colourful character.
Jim Jeffries: the Boilermaker was the toughest of the tough
Sam Langford: the runaway son of Nova Scotian sharecroppers; the Boston Tarbaby was one of the best of all time.
Jack Dempsey: Dempsey used to fight for his dinner as a teenage hobo. He also picked apples and mined gold. Soo many thrilling fights.
Julio Cesar Chavez: JCC was relentless. His battle w/ Taylor is one of the greatest fights of all time.
Kid McCoy: The Tricky Kid invented telling someone his shoes are untied and then hitting him in the face.
Mysterious Billy Smith: Smith would mysteriously thumb your eyes, step on your feet, hit on the breaks, and punch for your balls.
Barney Ross: check out the bio of this American Hero on his boxrec.com page
Fighting Harada: an esteem to Japanofiles like myself
Ken Buchanon: a splendid and underrated boxer. I loved watching him against Duran.
Alexis Arguello: a lot like Patterson; fun to watch and a class act. Unlike Patterson, depression got the better of him.
Guierllmo Rigueandox: This Cuban is an absolute savant. Let's hope he gets some better fights in the near future. And let's hope I learn to spell his name right.

Re: Who are your favorite boxers?
young griffo on that last list ^^.....he fought in a fight where neither man landed a punch, and rather than a stinker it was regarded as an amazing display of scientific boxing at the highest level.
one of my own favourites, and of more recent times, as theres so much video footage, is orlando canizales.

Re: Who are your favorite boxers?
i'm quoting this...
Here is how Jack Callaghan described the meeting of Pedler Palmer and Young Griffo to writer W Buchanan Taylor: “Those who saw that demonstration saw everything that could possibly be known about the science of boxing.
“They boxed four rounds and neither man landed a blow on the other. They were the two quickest thinking boxers ever known and the witnesses of the meeting were of the opinion that, barring a slip or other accident, neither would have ever been able to hit the other.
................................
little side story to compliment that..apologies for going off topic from thread subject here..
A knock on the Broztell Hotel door. Les opens it. It is the young hotel porter, a painfully thin Negro, and he is deeply sorry suh, but there is someone downstairs who is insisting on seeing Mistuh Darcy. Sez he is an Oss-tralian, too. And he used to be a boxer. The thing is, Mistuh Darcy, it is difficult to know much of him, ‘cos he might be drunk, but he sez his name is ‘Griff’, ‘Griffa’, sum’n like that? Young Griffo? The boxing hero of Australia, who had left home shores in 1893 never to return? Great! Show him up! But Mistuh Darcy, he very drunk, not too good dressed, terrible, rotten, black teeth, and thuh hotel probably wouldn’t want likes of him in the building… Fine, but please get him!
And so the young porter does, returning shortly afterwards and furtively pushing a fat old drunk man into Mistuh Darcy’s room before skedaddling. He is going to catch hell from management, if they find out.
And so there they are, Les Darcy and Young Griffo—each a hero before heading to America to seek their international fame and fortune—meeting in a New York hotel room in the early days of 1917.
They talk… The fact that ‘Young Griffo’ is no longer young is obvious, as is the fact that the young porter hadn’t been exaggerating in his description. Griffo’s teeth are terrible, he reeks of alcohol, and is evidently doing it very tough indeed. These days one of his tricks to get more alcohol is to take a handkerchief into a bar, stand on it and bet someone that they can’t lay a single punch on him for a whole minute while he doesn’t take a step off the hankie, but simply dodges and ducks all their blows! No, he couldn’t win a real fight in the ring these days, but by God he can still keep himself in grog.
They laugh and talk. Les is delighted to meet this Australian legend, and later tips the porter a quarter, telling the disbelieving young man that the ‘fat old alko’—as the porter would later describe Griffo, whom he brought up to Les’s room—was once one of the greatest featherweight boxers of them all.

(In no particular order)
Lomachenko: obviously for his great technical assets, mainly. I wish he had turned pro earlier, I don't like boxers with a too-long amateur career: if you wanna be an Olympic boxer, like Teofilo Stevenson, stay amateur; if you wanna go pro, then turn pro at 18 years old...
Usyk: same goes for him... outstanding amateur career, but at his 16th pro fight he's already past his prime... Awesome boxer, nevertheless.
Gervonta Davis: really wanna see what he's made of: there's only one way to find out...
David Benavidez: he's almost there, I'm looking forward to him.
Fabio Turchi: a little bit of Italian pride, here: he did good as an amateur, and has obviously less means than USA/UK-based fighters to train as a pro and fight properly, but he has the makings.

Another boxer I hold in great consideration is "Big" George Foreman: another great achiever, obscured by the overwhelming presence of the great Alí, but in possess of a great style, physical assets, and a peculiar technique which made his bout very entertaining: fearsome fighter, but respectful of his opponents, he's one of the all-time greatest heavyweights in the world: top-10 to me.

Re: Who are your favorite boxers?
I recently discovered the work of Terry Norris: his psycho/physical fitness was unbelievable: terrific powerpuncher, could throw great combinations, and I enjoyed his thunderous right hands.
In my opinion he's too seldomly named among the all-time p4p greatest.
