Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
Hope Paul wins. Hard one but good luck to him.
And well done to the promoter for getting him the shot.

Lol it's funny actually as Smith is probably I dunno, the 5th best supermiddleweight in the UK? It just shows how silly boxing is these days.milpool wrote:That's pretty much the case these days...Riddick Blowe wrote:Everyone as world champion
Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
AA K.O within 3 rounds
Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
Is this the end of Gallagher's record? It's a close fight for me. What worries me tho is Paul's fragile skin, i'm thinking a cut could end this 1 early.

Just watched the weigh in, always suspicious when the scale is surrounded by officials when the home fighter is weighing in...
Paul looked focused as is to be expected. I had to turn the volume down though, there was a squawking woman present who felt the need to make herself heard.

Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
Do I remember Abraham fighting with a badly dislocated jaw against Edison Miranda? Clearly got some guts. I haven't followed his career closely enough but I wouldn't have thought he was echeleons above Paul Smith, who's been at this game for more than long enough to make it competetive. I doubt Smith will ever ship a shot like the one Groves did him with to anybody. That was a peach. Froch showed that Abraham can be flogged!handsofstone wrote:Nah me neither i suspect Smith will try and box a controlled fight and expect to win on the cards but with Smith's inactivity lately and age,not ancient but his body seems quite ravaged judging by the amount of pull outs he's had the last few years,i cant see him having the speed of foot to avoid Arthur in full throttle which usually happens after the halfway stagemagwitch wrote:i wouldn't come out firing at Abraham, and I don't expect Smith to do so either.
I was impressed with Abraham in the Stieglitz rubber match for the first time in a long while so he def still has some left in the tank and ive never seen anything to suggest that Paul's at his level, while it wouldnt exactly be Honeyghan/Curry all over,id still be surprised
I hope im wrong though and wish Paul all the best

Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
Its a difficult fight for Smith no matter how you look at it.
does he have the ability - I think he does because at British, Commonwealth and European level he will beat most top contenders for the title, World level is the only place for him to be properly tested.
in Germany- he has to win convincingly in every round or he won't win on points and other wise he will have to stop Abraham early.
can he ? - keeping the work rate high straight from the opening bell would put him in good standing for the fight and he needs to test Abraham and try for a stoppage. from what I've seen Abraham hasn't looked the same recently. It could have been an off fight but if his toughness and punch resistance is going, smith has to try put him away.

Smith is not European class and has no history of beating top contenders for that title. In his long career his best wins are over Dobson, Quigley and ... Renda?northern wrote:Its a difficult fight for Smith no matter how you look at it.

Paul Smith is a fraud whose mouth and ticket selling ability keeps him in the spotlight.

Said it before the Quigley fight was a home fighter decision (FW show).Lenny wrote:Smith is not European class and has no history of beating top contenders for that title. Also he isn't even the best Super Middleweight in his own City. Did a poll earlier in the year regarding Smith v Fielding and the majority who voted had Fielding by KO.
Not the most liked on here and he doesn't deserve this at all but I'll wish him luck for tonight.
He'll give it a good go and show a lot of heart but it won't liven up until later rounds.
The big factor is since Smith beat Dodson he has had a gimme 6 rounder and 8 rounder where as Abraham has had 4 12 round fights all be it not against the most amazing opposition but against guys likely better than Paul. He fights like he did in Steiglitz 3 can't see him having a problem. I reckon Gallagher pulls him out or throws the towel in round 9-10. Abraham whilst limited is one of the hardest guys in the sport and carries solid power on the inside and Paul isn't the most elusive.

Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
anyone know the running time for this show? I see Macklin is on the undercard against Yose Yebes, probably a late round or points win there for Macklin.
The main support Vincent Feigenbutz vs Guram Natsulishvili could be fun whilst it lasts, 2 come forward boxers with a dig.
But all in all its a pretty poor show.

Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
Decent article. *nit picking alert* - Abraham didn't last the full 12 with Dirrell - he was dq'd.
Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
I've not read any posts on here so don't no people's opinions but if anyone actually thinks Paul smith will beat Abraham are laughable, I'm still amazed how he's even allowed to fight Abraham
Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
I've got a pal in Germany telling me Artur has had a (very) bad camp and that this routine fight may not be the cake walk most expect.
Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
Still probably be good enough to beat Smith though lolSklar wrote:I've got a pal in Germany telling me Artur has had a (very) bad camp and that this routine fight may not be the cake walk most expect.

Re: Paul Smith vs Arthur Abraham
Smith is a decent domestic fighter whose lost to a couple of good fighters in Groves and DeGale plus Bendall ,the problem for me is he hasnt shown anything to say he's at this level, granted he's not the first fighter to get an undeservrd shot and im glad he's got it and i hope he takes it with both hands, its this whole waiting about for over a year on his "deserved" oppurtunity and since beating a shot Dodson what seems like ages ago for the British, then not defending it and having a 6 rounder and an 8,hardly ideal prep for someone whose seem more a grafter than someone talented,i dont mean that to sound disrespectful, its the same with footballers, some are born with natural talent and others have to work to get to the top,Paul hasnt exactly worked lately for his shot at the top so i hope he doesnt look back with regret on his shoddy preperation
