I dont think he'd destroy him but he'd outbox him.

If he threw more he'd have a good KO rate at super middleweight, but his workrate is awful.

Look at his recent record....definitely not the puncher he was at 160.
Yeah very true. It's weird though because his punches still look very powerful though when he lets them go but obviously it's deceptive.
He's more heavy handed than a one punch banger and he can't sustain the pace or workrate to land enough for them to take effect so he can take the opponent out, he's never done anyone worth mentioning early, just ground them down and at super middle, at 34, he doesn't have the strength or fitness to do it anymore.

I didn't keep a scorecard, but I'm pretty sure he won more than one round.

I gave him 4 and can see 1 more, so agree on that. Shocking judge.

Smith didn't win 7 CLEAR rounds but he made it competitive throughout, Abraham is past his best but done just enough to win by a few rounds. Great effort by Smith but no need for a rematch.

Smith boxed well and the scorecards were much wider than they should have been but I find the holier than thou incredulity absurd. There's a lorryload of examples in UK rings of refs stepping in to support the home fighter and favourable decisions yet we still hear the 'knock them out to get a draw' cliches when we fight overseas from the same pundits who keep it zipped when there's a blatant Brit bias.

Give me an example of a British/home corner fighter being stopped by the ref prematurely or losing a decision when the consensus had them winning. They are as rare as a hatless picture of The Edge.

I agree with Graham Houston's sentiments.

Me: Abraham 116-112. Judges' scores a tad wide, but the winner won as we used to say in London.

Watched on Russian TV. Better than Sky, for me -- an unemotional commentary that I can't understand! (No risk of being misled.

Too many people misled by over-the-top commentary. Don Dunphy was 'vanilla' by today's standards but didn't lead viewers astray.

I strongly disagree, I think he's talking rot.

Yeah spot on. I ended up flicking between the Russian and English on (Russian stream was 17 seconds behind for what it was worth) and it was almost as if my eyes were deceiving me when I was watching the Sky stuff

Ain't right but it always happens.
Reality is Smith hit the arms, gloves and such a lot, lot, lot more often that Halling seemed to realise.

8-4 Abraham

So did Abraham tho, yes the power might've got through a little but Smith was taking loadsa shots on the gloves. Both fighters had great defence.

Controversy aside, Abraham should think about retiring pronto. Smith is miles away from world level, can't fault his effort but he should never have had the amount of success that he did tonight.

I gave smith first two rounds then 6 was debatable, then 7-11. i had him up one or two points. My honest opinion.

Feel gutted for the lad.

I thought more shots, especially jabs, were getting through from AA in the majority of rounds. Neither landed much of note though.

Yup you're right Abraham did hit the guard a fair bit, but he wasn't having those punches swooned over by Halling and Watt as Smith did which lead to a very misleading commentary.

As I said earlier, whenever Smith threw = "oh and that's good stuff from Smith!'

Abraham looked to be swatting Smith at times when he did let his punches go, but all too often he'd go into his shell and try to coast through rounds.

I gave it 7-5 to Abraham, Smith did really well in the middle of the fight and was hurting Abraham who seemed to be struggling with the pace, the scorecards were truly shocking.

Close fight. I had it a draw and thats factoring in the really close rounds going to the home fighter cos its germany.

Shocking scorecards.

I thought it was decent to watch despite both fighters blocking most shots with their arms. Id watch it again if it was judged elsewhere.

Sky and Sauerland were truly awful.

Paul Smith did great.

But Abraham's accuracy won by 2.

The End.

I think everywhere is as bad as everywhere else. The Sky commentary was abysmal and will no doubt have encouraged the calls of "robbery". It wasn't a robbery, dispassionately Artur did enough to win the fight but Smith did enough to be within two or three rounds. The scorecards were, in my opinion, too lopsided but you can't call a fight a robbery when the right man is taking home the belt.

P.S. Artur is done and should consider knocking it on the head.
Fantastic post--I watched a (Russian? Latvian?) recording this morning but as I was eating me Bran Flakes I thought "Fvck me I bet SKY have got this 11-1 the other way..." & lo & behold I come on here...

Also, AA looked done the first time he scraped home against Stieglitz, to me, a dude I've always thought less than fvck-all of.
