Re: Who did you have winning?
114-114. Can't remember which rounds I gave to who, although I gave AA 4 of the first 5 and the last, so there's 5 rounds, won atleast 1 more for me. I would have had no complaints if AA got the nod 115-113, maybe even 116-112, but 117-111 is pushing it and 119-109 is borderline criminal.
Re: Who did you have winning?
I had 115/113 in favour of AA... I don't know what J. Watt was smoking.
Re: Who did you have winning?
AA by a few rounds but Smith did a great job and made it a much better fight than I thought
Re: Who did you have winning?
I had Smith 115-114 (scored the second 10-10) - it was a close fight throughout, with the 3rd and 4th for Abraham and the 8th for Smith the only absolutely clear rounds in it. Had the judges gone for Abraham by a point, two points I'd have seen nothing wrong with that but the scores that were read out were just ridiculous - up there with giving Alvarez a draw against Mayweather or Burns a draw against Beltran for sheer b*****ks.
Re: Who did you have winning?
116-113 Abraham
The scoring was far too wide, but the right man got the decision for me. Last night showed the dangers of Halling and Watt's commentary, they seem to have convinced a lot of people that Smith was completely robbed and a clear winner and now there's calls for a rematch, it was a close fight, I edged towards Abraham because he was more effective, especially early on and he got the decision. They got too caught up in Abraham not finishing as strong as he normally does, whether in the rounds or the fight. This time he put the rounds in the bag early on - Smith didn't win any of the first 6 rounds for me - then faded a bit down the stretch, allowing Smith into the fight, before coming on in the 12th to make it safe.

Re: Who did you have winning?
Anyone who thought Smith won that fight needs to go to Specsavers. He did better than I thought he would but no way won 116-112 IMHO and that is being generous.

Re: Who did you have winning?
I think it was more Halling with Watt perhaps adjusting his scoring so as not to embarrass Halling. I think in round 11 Abraham came out in the first minute and landed about a 5 or 6 punch combo to Smith's body, later in the round Smith landed a 1 or 2 punch combo and Halling went ballistic and at the end of the round said Smith got that round.expe wrote:116-113 Abraham

Re: Who did you have winning?
115-114 Smith, close fight, not a lot of clear rounds, cant disagree with Abraham getting it but that last scorecard was a disgrace
Re: Who did you have winning?
I had it even you could argue either way its what you prefer the judges were disgusting last night but thats German boxing for you I still remember Robin reid getting robbed.
Re: Who did you have winning?
It's definitely more Halling, Smith landing one clean punch would have him screaming, then he ignores what Abraham does. There's no way Jim Watt is that blind to what's happening in front of him, he's either sticking to the company line, or trying his best not to make Halling look a complete idiot.jameswilson wrote:I think it was more Halling with Watt perhaps adjusting his scoring so as not to embarrass Halling. Re: Who did you have winning?
Yeah, this is actually a bit different really in that I have yet to see one person who has said Smith was the victim of an outright robbery - I think most people like me who would have given him the nod recognise that it was paper thin if he did get it and that there was as good a case for it to go the other way. The point is more that, whatever you thought of the fight, there can be no justification for those cards whatsoever, whereas in previous "controversial" scorings in whatever country (and we have to remember here that Nevada has as bad of a record for scoring and that some people are nervous of British referees, so its not just a German thing) there was at least a case to be made.dan28uk wrote:I had it even you could argue either way its what you prefer the judges were disgusting last night but thats German boxing for you I still remember Robin reid getting robbed.
Re: Who did you have winning?
I had it 118 - 112 to AA , watched it again this morning without Watts shrieking and there wasn't one round you could say Smith won conclusively or did he ever have Abrahams hurt or in trouble.

Same as Mr Billups. Good show from Smith, I didn't think he'd go the distance.levi billups wrote:Abraham 116-112. Had to reach for the mute button after 4 rounds. Made it much easier to score as a result.

Re: Who did you have winning?
I thought Smith out worked him and a couple of flurries in a round doesn't warrant a clear round for me and that was all AA was doing. It was tight but IMO I had Smith by 1 round he gave away the 12th round. As someone has said it wasn't daylight robbery but he's entitled to feel overcharged by a taxi driver
Re: Who did you have winning?
Scores were a little wide, but he got exactly what he deserved.deliverance wrote:I thought Smith out worked him and a couple of flurries in a round doesn't warrant a clear round for me and that was all AA was doing. I think you are confusing "flurries" with "a consistent hard jab and thudding power shots"

Re: Who did you have winning?
114-114 draw
Re: Who did you have winning?
I had Abraham 3 points up. The cards were iffy, but the winner was correct. The decision wasn't anywhere near as bad as Burns v Beltran.

Re: Who did you have winning?
Just put in the book and I had 115-113 in favour of Paul Smith. I can't get my head around the scorecards that were in favour of Abraham. 119-109 is just damn right wrong in my book, 117-111 to Abraham is very hard to justify.

Re: Who did you have winning?
Until I saw this poll I was starting to think I was on my own beleiving that Abraham was a clear winner. Perhaps because I follow a majority of Brits on my twitter timeline?
Credit to Smith though, he did put in a very good performance and kept coming despite having his face jabbed off. The outcry from Smith's camp and his fans is a bit much though. One scorecard was well off the mark but it was certainly no robbery.
The WBO should simply strike one judge of the shift plan and move on.

Re: Who did you have winning?
It really was a case of what do you prefer? One guy with a steady output or one who picks his moments and dominates short periods in rounds?
As for the comments about punches on gloves…seems like both men hit a lot of leather…if anything Smith’s shots to the body were the cleanest punches of the fight over the 12 rounds.
From one perspective there were some tricky moments for Smith and then when he did have Abraham blowing he had to stay measured.
I scored it 115-114 to Abraham.
Smith did so well that when the scores were read out he genuinely had a chance of getting a result (in a neutral venue). But the scores were a little absurd to say the least. A split decision or a majority decision would have been fine. Even a unanimous but with a couple of 115-113 scores in there.
Paul should be very proud of his performance. Why so called fans want to criticise a solid, skilled and honest pro in the autumn of his years, who probably hasn’t made a fortune from the sport…I don’t know. The sport needs more guys like Paul.

Yeah the American, Spaniard and Hungarian really screwed Smith's chances, always siding with the Germans, that lot.Ezzard wrote:It really was a case of what do you prefer? One guy with a steady output or one who picks his moments and dominates short periods in rounds?

Or maybe it was the notoriously noisy German crowd.
