Bellew v cleverly double press conference today

Post by righthook »

Today at liverpool/Cardiff there will be 2 press conferences!

This is the first time this has happened with Hearn and I'm not sure it's such a idea???

At the first conference it could get very heated and they may be at each other's throats or then again it could b a really good conference and they answer all the questions then an hour or 2 they have to do it all over again .

IMO it would have been better to have 1 conference in Liverpool on maybe the Monday then another one on the Friday in Wales. At least then the boxers would have had time to calm down if it nearly did go to blows or at least it's fresh for them when they get asked questions

What's peoples thoughts on these back to back press conferences???

I can't wait till later hopefully some fireworks :bag:

its all a show so im sure it will be fine , only person thats likely to lose the plot is Bellew as he gets to emotional

Cleverly seem that bit more confident and can control it better

hell really struggle to handle a 2nd defeat from Clev i reckon .

I just heard this is PPV??? What the fvck????

This is a new low for Sky Sports, can't see more than a handful of people buying it. Very tempted to cancel Sky Sports altogether now, if cards like this are made PPV then what's the point in keeping it?

It's official. Bullshit decision. Decent undercard but does not make it PPV worthy.

There is no way I will be buying this and neither should others. Only way it will stop is if people vote with their feet.

There'll be going at each other hard, simply to sell ppv numbers.

I echo the views already expressed on the ppvworthiness- or otherwise- of this fight, and indeed, this card.

fvck off Eddie.

in fairness if he';s lined up to fight Komeda i dont care. The /jap will bring all he can handle and more.

I'm still backing Clev in this one, i genuinely think he can be a top 10 guy in this division, maybe a titlist. Bellew im not so sure.

To be honest, on reflection the undercard isn't that amazing either; it certainly doesn't justify making it PPV. I love the Smith fight, but the rest isn't that great. Joshua-Sprott won't be competitive and let's not forget that Quigg/McDonnell are fighting for paper belts, nothing more.

Pretty clear to see how this will be hyped up. There will be a "brawl" at the press conference which will be replayed ad nauseum on Sky Sports News, add to that the countdown specials hyping the needle between them in the build up. The casuals will lap it up and (unfortunately) buy the PPV in big numbers.

Such a shitty undercard tho:

- Quigg against a shot Agbeko with 4 losses in his last 6

- A Joshua blow out of Sprott

- McDonnell against a 34yr old from Argentina who's combined opponent record since coming out of a 4 year hiatus last year is 79-109-10

- A WBC "Eliminator" with Callum Smith ranked 10 fighting 36yr old Nikola Sjekloca ranked 14

How can the smith fight be an eliminator if Groves is the mandatory for the WBC? Unless I've got it wrong...

Embarrassing move from Hearn and Sky making this PPV. I can't think of one truly good card that Hearn has put on this year

This is a typically matchroom undercard. Awful really. No where near PPV worthy. Two fragile past their best fighters going for an eliminator does not make it a PPV card. Hearn knows it's not worthy but also knows that with sky hyping the hell out of it the general public are stupid enough to buy this trash.

Hearn, sky, the fighters they all know they are duping the public but don't give a toss. I hope the public shows that this kind of card won't sell.

The fact this is PPV is a disgrace !!!

So is any decent 50/50 mian event on Sky PPV now ???

Hell look at some HBO and showtime cards have good solid world title fights that don't make PPV. Kovalev Hopkins looks at August 16th Brook v Porter miles better than this.

I'm at a gig that night so won't be watching anyway.

I can't work out who the hell would buy this PPV. Just had a chat with a couple of guys in my office who like boxing, more casual fans than hardcore, and even they both said it was ridiculous.

There's not a big enough name or fight to sell this to the casuals, and the hardcore fans will see it for the cash-grab that it is. Really think it'll crash & burn.

Fvck it, I might actually cancel Sky Sports. The message couldn't be clearer that boxing fans are going to be robbed blind from hereon in, having Froch as an exclusively PPV fighter is bad enough without being charged 15 quid to watch a meaningless eliminator between 2 domestic boxers who've already fought.

I'm going to have to stop catching up on boxing news during my working day, now I'm going to have another rage-fuelled unproductive afternoon.

Predictions:

1) Bellew to lose it in the build up, rant about his power, call Clev a gerbil or similar.

2) Clev to win a narrow points dec.

3) Undercard to all go to the fighters on the left hand of the sheet

4) A handful of us poor b4stards forking out serious coin for whats should be free on an already subscription paying channel

5) Hearn/SKY (is there a difference?) to use this as the basis for more PPVs and more ripping off of the paying public.

6) Boxing to gain 0 new fans and be the eventual loser in the whole equation.

This would be a perfectly acceptable standard Saturday night card....not exceptional, just acceptable, in no way a PPV. Total sh1tbags.

Even though I dislike the concept of PPV more so for this card. Callum Smiths fight is the right fight for him now only lost to Abraham and Bika over 12 had a win against a guy who gave Degale a good fight.

Agbeko not seen him fight. I heard he got schooled by Rigo but his other losses one he avenged in a rematch and the other two to Abner Mares so no shame in that he also has a win over Darchinyan at bantam so he must HAVE BEEN good. On paper this doesn't look that bad probably Quiggs best opponent.

Jamie Mcdonnells is listed as a light flyweight !!!!!!!!!! The only guy with a good record is Omar Navarez he fought in 2006 at flyweight !!!!!!!!!!!

I like Jamie but he is NOT a world champion the actual WBA Bantam belt changed hands at the weekend.

The fact this is PPV is disgraceful.

If it was on Sky Sports which we pay for anyway I would be very happy as the main event will be a good fight.

This should not be PPV - that much is obvious - but having said that I bet half the folk on here insisting they wont buy it then actually will nearer fight time.

British consumers. Own worst enemies. That's why folk like Hearn get away with it.
