How closely do you follow the British scene ? Do you know or even care who the British champs (holder of the Lonsdale belt ) are ? is it possible to watch our domestic fights over there ? Just interested that's all ....

I'm quite aware of world events. I care much more than just being bombed ... but, most Americans do fall under that category.

However, why should anyone care about the local British titles? The "main" titles are silly enough and I still keep a mental track of the titleholders. That's enough stupidity for me.

I care about world champions, and legitimate contenders. If I was local to the UK, I would probably follow that as well. But since I am an American, and I don't go incredibly out of my way to find streams of British titled events and such, I watch, for the most part, what is accessible to me through my cable company.

I'm very much a HW fan, so sure I follow Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua and Haye when he was a fighter. Of course, I'm aware of and watch big names like Kell Brook and Khan. British boxing has exploded in a big and good way. Use to be just Alan Minter, Conteh and Joe Bugner for a long time.

I watch fights from all over the world and generally don't care about regional titles, whether they are American or South American, European, Baltic, English, etc. Not even sure I care much about most alphabet "world" titles. But I follow British boxers, just as I do Argentine, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, Mexican, US, etc. And I prefer La Liga and Serie A to the EPL, but watch them all.

I watch fights from over there all the time and am quite familiar with all the big names. As for the titles, I don't pay attention to alphabet belts anymore so no I can't name the champions.

I never paid much attention to the British, Commonwealth, Lonsdale titles until I got hooked on Ricky Hatton. He was what started my interest in the domestic rivalries and titles over there. Saw a lot of good british fights over the years for sure.

I followed the Calzaghe clan back when Enzo's gym started blowing up, there was Macciranelli, Rees, Cleverly, Pryce, and of course Joe.. those guys were fun to watch.

The British title or more specifically the Lonsdale belt is a well sought after prize over here and the lads that fight for it do so as if it were a world title and we all know what kinds of fights happen when a real desire is brought into the ring. Just saying you could be missing out on some real classics.

I like to follow the British/Irish scene as much as I can--- but I will say, that the 1980's and prior in Great Britain was THE absolute best time for boxing. Back then there were 'Midlands' and 'Northern' and 'Southern', etc. titles and there seemed to be a boxing league in almost every community--- even the amateurs was exploding, and you had all kinds of businesses and groups putting in cash to fund it all, like the Coal Miner's.

Some of them titles still exist today, but it has been so watered down and given so little importance these days, that it seems almost like an award just for participating anymore. I blame the BBBC though for all this--- and for shutting down the travelling booth shows, and cracking down hard on the "semi-pro" leagues, etc. and all it really did, was ensure that only the richest of boxing promoters, managers, matchmakers, etc. could stay in business without competition.

I watch fights in European and Australian all the time but I don't keep track of regional belts. The only one that gets my attention is the EBU and then only because it seems to be important over there.

i live in florida, born and raised in boston ma, and spent time in ireland and england growing
up as my mother grew up in that part of the world and is buried over there. i regularly chime
in during the rbr threads on here for british fights, title or not, and watch boxing from
amateurs to club to national to international to world level from around the world as time permits.

I am full blooded, American and a Boxing fan. I have gone to maybe 10 or more live fights and afterward headed to the bar.

I can tell you that I have had the most enjoyable conversations with true boxing fans from all over the world then I have had with my own friends and family.

No egos, no bullshit attitudes.....just straight up "Here is my opinion, what is your opinion?, can I buy the next round?".

I refuse to talk about boxing with my friends or family because it always reverts back to fighters they know from years ago and totally irrelevant to what is going on today.

Im sure if you and I sat down at a bar we would have an awesome chat.

But to answer your question.....sort of. Thanks to the internet I now have access to fights that I would only read about. I could not tell you who the British champs or belt holders are but there is a good chance I have seen them or plan on following up on and checking them out on internet video.

I dont really follow any belts nowadays. The thought of all the belts is something I find annoying. Back when I did stay on top of them more the European belt was definitely one of the most important national belts out there for me.

I follow the British scene pretty closely. I wouldn't say that I am too involved, but enough to follow the guys Hatton trains, as well as the Smith brothers, Saunders, Ryder, Quigley, and others.

Exactly. If even many Americans are ignorants about other countries, that's not the good example. I don't even know why British people should care about the local British titles.

The British title is steeped in history and is probably the most prestigious regional title in the world which is why lads fight tooth and nail to obtain what is probably the most attractive belt out there and not just a crappy plastic thing, a lot of British boxers have retired happily knowing they have obtained the Lonsdale belt.

Yes and I wished they were all televised. Youtube helps a lot. Classics over the years. The particular belt is less important to me both here and over there.
