TR and Chavez are suing each other

Poor JCCJ couldn't understand terms of extension:

According to reports, if Julio hadn’t agreed to extend his contract then a proposed Golovkin bout could have only gone ahead if he agreed to a much smaller purse.

I suspect similar issues scuppered Chavez Jr.’s proposed fight against Froch.

So Top Rank filed a lawsuit last month against Chavez Jr. for failure to uphold his agreement…and Bob’s company gets counter-sued because they misled him.

I’m not the biggest fan of Chavez Jr’, but it’s not the first time a fighter has been exploited by his promoter. After all, promoters like Bob Arum are lawyers, whilst Chavez Jr merely earns a living by getting repeatedly punched in the face. So I suspect Top Rank did something really dodgy, but technically legal and unchallengeable.

I feel sorry for fighters like Ward, Chavez Jr, Mikey Garcia etc. Legal disputes like this also spoils things for us fight fans.
What? Bob Arum doing something unethical or immoral?
No way that could be true
I don;t think there has ever been an honest promoter. But Arum makes most
of them appear to be saints.

This might be the only case where I've ever sided with Arum over a fighter.
Chavez Jr. was nothing more than a famous name having scrub who couldn't fight when Arum took him in and totally manufactured a championship career with hard promotion and smart matchmaking.
Junior should kiss Slob's ass for the rest of his life.

Thats silly. Bob did his job, but Julio did his job too. Wherever Julio is @ he was the guy in the ring. He shouldn't owe Bob any lifetime contract or anything past their agreement.

I'm kinda confused about all this too cuz I read the same thing mentioned by ferg where the GGG fight was extending the contract but the $ was sexy & w/o the extension the money dropped considerably. I guess I could see how he could owe Bob a fight though since GGG didn't happen.

what "extension" did chavez agree to?
you can revoke any contract that hasn't been performed, so in order for there
to be an enforceable extension chavez must have taken payment for signing
an extension, but that makes no sense because arum would have had him fighting.
if chavez didn't sign anything or take money, then arum will lose.
arum didn't seem to be arguing that the last contract had expired a week ago.
these lawsuits should be "loser pays" the winner's court and legal costs.
that way, they wouldn't take each other to court unless they were sure
they had a good chance of winning.

Arum continually forces fighters into signing extensions or he refuses to allow them to work.

I have never ever sided with Chavez Jr. In my opinion, he represents all the wrong things I see in American youth, and the children of the rich around the world.

However, I'm sick of Bob being allowed to do this shit. All fighter's contracts should have a provision that the promoter offers them the best fight possible, at least 1 every 6 months, or the fighter is allowed to walk. This will not result in fighters claiming they aren't getting fights and ending their contracts early, because if the promoter is able to prove that he/she offered fair fights, the fighter has to stay under contract.

IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT!

How does that f#cking work?!?! Guy is pushing for an extension in the summer of 2014 for a fighter under contract til Spring of 2016? With all the f#ckery in boxing extensions shpuldnt even be legal cuz a promoter gets too much power to damage or hiatus your career. Fulfill the contract & gauge your value & resign or find a new outfit.

You think JCC read the contract?

Most people wouldn't understand the terms of Arum's contracts. He is repeatedly involved in these kind of situations because he gives the loaded contracts in boxing today. You should research Mikey Garcia's contract. Arum basically gets to keep him as long as Garcia is winning. It's total bullshit, but no one cares because it's Arum.

Big deal.
In situations like this, Junior will be on the sidelines until sometime next year (morphing into a super heavyweight), and then a party to be named (AKA Haymon) will swoop in, offer Arum a ton of money and some other incentives, and then presto, Junior will be free.
I'm sure Arum isn't shedding too many tears, since it became apparent long ago that the "Son of the Legend" is more of a headache than a real talent.

Junior has an attorney, right ? That attorney was supposed to read the contract. If JCCJ didn't have an attorney, he had to have enough brains to hire one.
