Anniversary Memories

Post by SenorPipino »

Anyone remember what transpired 39 years ago today?
Hint: It's been called one of the greatest championship fights of all time.

Here's some memorable quotes from the participants in this epic showdown.
If you're still stumped, just throw in the towel and vacate your spot in the forum.

Fighter A:
"C'mon gorilla, we in Manila!"

Fighter A:
"Somebody told me you were all washed up."
Fighter F:
"Somebody lied to you, pretty boy"

Fighter A:
"It was like death...closest thing to dying that I know of."

Fighter F:
"Lawdy, lawdy, he's a great champion. I hit him with punches that would have brought down the walls of a city."

How come today's fighters never say anything that remains iconic decades later?

I have no idea which match you could be referring to. :D

You don't think some of the fascinating dialogue that we hear from current fighter's will be remembered in 2053? :D

Please enlighten me. I can't recall any fascinating dialogue from today's crop.

Most of it appears to be some nonsensical "gangsta" talk and threats. You need to be a longtime inhabitant of a state Big House to comprehend the gems that escape their lips.
