Cancelling Sky Sports??

Apologies for yet another Bellew/Cleverly related thread, but today's announcement has driven me to seriously consider cancelling Sky Sports completely - partly as a protest, but mainly because it gives absolutely shite value for money for a boxing fan.

Reading through the threads today it seems quite a few other people have the same idea, so just wondered how many were actually serious?

For those who are serious, perhaps if we confirmed a day when we'd all cancel together citing poor value for money in boxing & hugely unworthy PPVs, there'd be a chance (alright, a tiny chance) that Sky would at least flag the issue.

Not always lol. I know some girl who went to cancel hers (sky as a whole) because someone else had threatened to and got a great deal and they actually ended up just offering her a more expensive package instead and when she said no to that they just cancelled her subscription haha.

Exactly the same happened to one of my mates - he'd heard about loads of people threatening to cancel & ending up with big discounts, so he tried it for himself. The Sky guy didn't even try to keep him as a customer, just read him out the cancellation terms! I guess he'd already hit his sales target for the day so didn't care.

Utter contempt towards boxing fans this is. This would be like charging football fans an additional fee for an FA cup semi-final between Newcastle & Sunderland.

I've been considering cancelling Sky for sometime. Since BT Sports came in to play Sky no longer have had a monopoly on all the big sporting fixtures but that hasn't stopped them charging a premium. The majority of boxing I watch is also on BN, again, an extra subscription. Even watching my TV in HD costs me extra which is a shambles in itself. They should provide the best image reoslution as standard, I wonder if they'd cut my subscription if I ask for my picture to be beamed to me in black and effing white.

Putting this domestic rematch between 2 European level bafta-winners on PPV is the last straw for me. I wasn't even happy about paying for Froch-Groves 2 given the amount of effing money i hand over to Sky, but at least that was a 'once-in-a-decade type of event'. I'm phoning them tomorrow and telling them to shove their subscription up their money grabbing arseholes.

Give Sky a call and say you cannot afford Sports no longer, you are giving 31 days notice. Sky will give you sports for 12 months 50% discount or offer you a 4 year deal at 33% discount.

i tried cancelling once and they didnt offer me a deal,
im tempted to cancell this time for a bit as there arent many big shows on now ? i mean Brook wont be fighting , Froch wont be fighting , so what does that really leave us .

only thing is the darts starts back next week so i like a bit of darts action

even if everyone phones them and cancells for a month in November it would still hit them to a certain extent
citing the Pay per view as the reason and allegedly offering better fights.

I already cancelled SKY when I moved house. I considered for no more than a second on renewing but I really couldn't justify it.

If there is a big football match or decent non PPV fight I'll watch it in the pub.

After reading that Bellew - Clev is pay per view I almost spit my coffee out.... I thought it had to be a joke.

On what grounds do two fighters who got brutally taken care of in their last World fights merit PPV?!!?

I emailed Adam Smith yesterday regarding Cleverly-Bellew PPV. I wrote that the whole thing stinks. It's greedy, cynical exploitation of real fans who pay £35 odd quid per month as it is. We're being taken for mugs.
I asked him to discuss this matter on Ringside & I will cancel my Sky Sports subscription after 17 years. allegedly & Channel 5 will have to do. Not a decision I took lightly but I was so disgusted by this that I felt I had no other choice.
A coordinated exodus of loyal boxing fans might be a good thing. Strength in numbers and all that.

This year has probably been a watershed for me. Save for a few years out of the country I've been getting Boxing News every week since 1986 and Sky since it started in 1989 but have cancelled them both.

I threatened to quit and because I have been with sky since day 1 they offered me a free holiday to tenerife and a new car, I told them to piss off and after a bit of haggling I also got a free 55 inch tv, portable psp player PS4 a slow cooker £25 voucher for M and s, box of Virgin wine and free sky tv and HD plus multi rooms for the next 15 years, and free breakdown cover for Greenflag for 2 years and 70% shares in the Sky corperation and the icing on the cake was a date with Georgie Bingham. Well could not resist to stay with sky. They must be chitting themselves that talktalk tv are the future.

how much are these mate? , are you affectivly watching internet streams for sports ect ?

I doubt sky would notice. I worked in their call centre many, many moons ago, the building held around 1000 operators on any given shift, all split into various departments (customer services, customer care, technical, turnaround etc etc). The turnaround dept., the one you get sent to when you want to cancel, will have X amount of operators on the day shift, i'd guess 50 plus, a bit less on the other shifts. Even if each operator got one or two calls in a day cancelling becuase of poor value for money in their boxing coverage, they would never blink an eye lid. Each call would get logged in the system but would still struggle to get noticed in amongst the thousands of other cancellations.

The prices varies on which box you get lowest £70 and the newest one is £110 the prices are best in droidsticks eBay account, yes it's all streams but on your TV you can watch any channel from around the world with one, any film/TV show made, I rate it highly, check droidsticks YouTube channel for more info re: how they work

I've been using a similar system for some time mainly to watch MMA and US college sports. The quality is okay (perfectly adequate for me) but it's nothing like what you're used to if you have HD TV, it'll keep improving over time though.
