Jermain Taylor's Poor, Poor Brain
Re: Jermain Taylor's Poor, Poor Brain
I used to rather pity him for his fall-from-grace bludgeonings. Less so now.

Absolutely.Datsue wrote:A well-on-the-way-to-being-punchy, post-operable brain trauma dude with clear, uh, behavioural issues is fighting tonight in a "world title fight", & the fact he said the words "White boy" in one of those videos is the thing that gets you the narkiest?liamlion wrote:Hope the racist ignoramous gets sparked.
Well done.
It is Taylor's choice to box and if he passes the relevant medical examinations then fair play to him.
I think racism is abhorrent and should never ever be tolerated.
Well done yourself sir...

Any other sport where someone makes a racist remark they would be dropped, suspended or whatever but in boxing it seems white people are fair game to African American boxers
If it was here in the UK,they would be def be suspended by the BBBoC pending an investigation and the fight would be off
I hope Soliman makes him quit with severe bodyshots

Taylor should be allowed to be as racist as he wants. What's wrong with allowing freedom of speech?handsofstone wrote:Any other sport where someone makes a racist remark they would be dropped, suspended or whatever but in boxing it seems white people are fair game to African American boxers

Don't you know racism doesn't count when your a white boy. When my brother was stabbed and nearly killed by 3 Asian men shouting racist abuse the police didn't think so.persuing the case was out of the public interest they said.just saying!

Re: Jermain Taylor's Poor, Poor Brain
This fight has only come to everyone's attention because almost nobody thinks Taylor should be allowed to box, let alone contest a world title. It demeans the IBF and it demeans boxing.

I find it ironic that in a thread that condemns racism has no problem with making fun of disabled people and mental illness....lefty wrote:I know right. You know what they say aswell, you should never go full retard haha.TheCobra wrote:He's gone full retard.
Re: Jermain Taylor's Poor, Poor Brain
Retard doesn't really mean disabled anymore, it's more along the lines of stupid, bit like gay used to mean happy and queer used to mean weird.reggaereggae wrote:I find it ironic that in a thread that condemns racism has no problem with making fun of disabled people and mental illness....lefty wrote:I know right. To be fair, I'm pretty sure this is a tongue-in-cheek quote from a comedy movie rather than a serious comment.reggaereggae wrote:I find it ironic that in a thread that condemns racism has no problem with making fun of disabled people and mental illness....lefty wrote:I know right. Ask a disabled person how they feel when it's shouted at them in the street.expe wrote: Retard doesn't really mean disabled anymore, it's more along the lines of stupid,
re·tard 2 (rtärd)
n. Offensive Slang
1. Used as a disparaging term for a mentally retarded person.
2. A person considered to be foolish or socially inept.
Re: Jermain Taylor's Poor, Poor Brain
A non-disabled person probably wouldn't like getting "retard" shouted at them either.ttornado wrote:Ask a disabled person how they feel when it's shouted at them in the street.re·tard 2 (rtärd)

Re: Jermain Taylor's Poor, Poor Brain
I'd rather it's shouted at no one. But disabled people can be particularly vulnerable, so seems a very cowardly act.Horse wrote:A non-disabled person probably wouldn't like getting "retard" shouted at them either.
Re: Jermain Taylor's Poor, Poor Brain
Exactly mate. It wasnt supposed to be taken literally and like expe also said that term is used for primarily these days and particularily in the context of how I said it when somebody is being stupid. It has nothing to do with somebody being disabled. Obviously when the term is used in reference to disability then of course it's vile.Boxerbeetle wrote:To be fair, I'm pretty sure this is a tongue-in-cheek quote from a comedy movie rather than a serious comment.reggaereggae wrote:I find it ironic that in a thread that condemns racism has no problem with making fun of disabled people and mental illness....lefty wrote: I know right. Re: Jermain Taylor's Poor, Poor Brain
What do people think of this fight then? Taylor is old, but Soliman is older. But then Soliman beat a pretty credible opponent in his last fight convincingly which Taylor hasn't done in ages.
Is everyone thinking Soliman to win?

Re: Jermain Taylor's Poor, Poor Brain
I think too much is made of age in boxing at times. Some guys naturally bloom (not quite the word i was looking for) later than others a bit like Froch possibly and some are completely shot by the time they're 30/31 like Juan manuel Lopez or even younger. Regarding the fight, i'd have to go with with Soliman based on the form line and the fact Taylor looked finished about 5 years ago which doesnt help things.jameswilson wrote:What do people think of this fight then? Why is it vile?lefty wrote:Obviously when the term is used in reference to disability then of course it's vile.
It used to be okay, but now it's not. It's stupid.
Being retarded is not a good thing. Whatever new names they come up with for it are going to be used as insults.
Re: Jermain Taylor's Poor, Poor Brain
That's your perception. A lot of people who aren't Ben Stiller fans still use that, and other words, correctly.lefty wrote:Exactly mate.
