Do you support boxers from other countries?
I notice in this and other boxing forums there are some people who ALWAYS support fighters from their home country, no matter what they do.
I make supportive posts about boxers from many countries: GGG (Kazakstan) Pulev (Bulgaria) Pacquaio (Philippines) Brook (UK) Thompson (USA) Kovalev (Russia) Adamek (Poland) Gonzalez (Nicaragua) etc.
What country someone is from doesn't make any difference to me, I'm just a boxing fan. I do favor boxers who are not afraid to travel to foreign countries and those who show a warriors' heart in the ring. I dislike prima donnas who always demand all the advantages and I tend to dislike boxers who use illegal tactics like clamping their opponents arms.
How about you?
I know there are some people who say they like boxers from other countries, yet only ever defend and post words of praise for boxers from their home country, while being unfairly negative about boxers from other countries around the world.
In your posting, do you always support boxers from your own country, or do you ignore national borders and support and root for boxers from other countries? Do you discredit boxers who are not from your own country, or do you give fair credit to boxers regardless of where they are from?

Re: Do you support boxers from other countries?
Yes, I don't care where a boxer comes from.
Re: Do you support boxers from other countries?
Neither poll option is accurate for me.
Re: Do you support boxers from other countries?
Yes.
I have a real support for Ricky Burns and Lennox Lewis was my hero as a kid but, I support Boxers from all over the UK, Europe and the World. On that same token, there is plenty UK and world fighters I don't like.
Where they're from, doesn't matter. If I like them, I like them.

Yes. To name a few instances, I was cheering for Caballero when he fought Molitor, Rubio when he fought Lemieux, and I'd love to see Kovalev KO Stevenson.
My support is very rarely based on nationality.

Aside from Naseem Hamed in his later years, I don't think I've cheered against a British fighter when he's taken on a fellow from another country.
Having said that, I don't really do the whole 'supporting' thing anyway. There are fighters that I prefer to watch because there's a greater likelihood of it being a decent fight. Ultimately, I like watching a good fight, I don't care who it is or where they're from.

I didn't mind seeing Frampton and Caballero beat Molitor, who always seemed to me to be a mediocre fighter. I'll always root against Stevenson no matter who he fights because of what he did to those young girls.crusader wrote:Yes. I agree. Fans almost always care about which country, city, school, etc. an athlete or a team are from. There are extremes where somebody will just watch his team or athlete, but normal fans appreciate other athletes while caring a little (or not so little) more about their favorites who are in most cases from the same culture/country/city/school/etc.Horse wrote:Neither poll option is accurate for me.

I'm only a "country" homer for Cuban boxers cuz I respect their amateur program along with the struggles the guys who've turned pro have had to go thru to even have a pro career.
I surely have a lean towards North American boxing, but I think thats just cuz thats the stuff I see & boxing info I'm exposed to the most. I do got homerism for Michigan boxers cuz thats where I grew up & specifically Grand Rapids cuz that's where I was born.

Doesn't really matter to me. If a fighter is from my town, of course I will most likely root for them. But other than that, it's more about style and attitude.

I voted yes, but it isn't completely accurate for me either.Horse wrote:Neither poll option is accurate for me.

I only support boxers I both know personally and like. Any other fight it's purely about the match.
Re: Do you support boxers from other countries?
I support fighters from all countries, but in some cases I will be patriotic and support fighters from my home country.

Where is the option for skin color? As long as they're white, im fine with it. Germany (Abraham), Russia (Kovalev), Poland (Wlodarczyk), Japan (Murata).

Re: Do you support boxers from other countries?
I think the majority of people on here are fair in their judgement. Most of us cheer for fighters
from all over.GGG is an excellent example of this.Very few on here do not respect him and like him.
Their are some fighters that just draw a certain type of fan.Floyd,Pacquiao and Wlad come to mind.
You either love them or you hate them.Which sometimes comes across with animosity.

Re: Do you support boxers from other countries?
As 'home' fighters are on the telly most often I'm more likely to follow someone from my country. However, if someone is interesting to watch country of origin doesn't matter too much for me. If I don't like a fighter from my country and they fight someone from abroad I'll generally cheer for the other guy.

Exactly what do you have against me? Is it because I'm not from the same country as you are?
There's nothing racist about my posts or about this thread, but your constant personal attacks on me and boxers not from the same country as yourself stinks of BIGOTRY.
Many boxing forums would ban you for what you do.

Re: Do you support boxers from other countries?
There's people who make many many posts discrediting boxers from other countries, while being quick to defend the boxers from their own country.
They feel the high-profile boxers from THEIR home country are ABOVE criticism, no matter what they do. Their posts reveal the nationalistic double standards they go by. For example, they'll praise a boxer from their home country who holds, head butts and otherwise fouls a lot, while bashing boxers from other countries for holding.
They'll praise a boxer from their home country for refusing to fight in foreign countries, while complaining about boxers from other countries for not fighting outside their home country.

Re: Do you support boxers from other countries?
I have no positive or negative attitudes towards any nationality. I certainly don't have any patriotic feelings for my own country. I doubt this is true of all posters here, despite the poll reflecting 100% "Yes" votes.
