Jermain Taylor vs Sergio Martinez

Post by hulkmaniac »

Don't be surprised if this fight gets made. Lou Dibella cashes out from these guys names one last time.

Yup I can definitly see that going down.

Even at this point I see Martinez edging Taylor.

Martinez beats Taylor, little doubt in my mind.

Oh and of course winner gets Quillin or Jacobs and an offer from Al Haymon that they can't refuse.

Really? After Martinez's dismal effort against blown-up welterweight Cotto? Prime-for-prime this would be an excellent matchup, but judging by their most recent performances, I think there is a lot of doubt over who would win.

I agree. Martinez who can't move will not beat any top 20-30 middleweight.

How can anyone back Martinez after his last outing? Taylor just beat a one legged man, he could do with facing someone with 2 legs.

Honestly, I wouldn't even mind this fight that much. Both guys are past it, but it's a more competitive fight than if either guy were to get served up as a sacrificial lamb to Golovkin.

Martinez still throws punches even with 1 leg. And uses a jab. Soliman's skills are pitiful.

And Taylor won't swarm him with activity, aggression and infighting like Cotto did.

You felt the same way on Soliman, as did most. Point being, both guys are shot, just a matter of who is shot less. I personally think Martinez's past injuries come back and it turns into another Soliman fight.

Wouldn't mind this fight as long as the loser promised to retire for good. If his body parts don't fly off or he becomes crippled, I could see Martinez winning a decision on activity. I wasn't all that impressed with Taylor last night.

Taylor looked great last night and I think he would handle Martinez quite easily at this point of both of their careers

What was great ? Instead of knocking out the one-legged, feather fisted opponent, he was wrestling with him.

Well, beating the champ is pretty great, winning the fight when you are 3-1 the underdog is pretty great. Getting a decision over an awkward fighter like Soliman is pretty great. I don't think Taylor is the best at 160 but probably top 5

nobody looks good fighting soliman, but i'm just bored with these guys
not fighting GGG. enough with all this nonsense. we all know who these
titlists should fight, but they won't, then all we here is how GGG hasn't
beaten anybody so doesn't deserve to be called one of the top guys.
the #1 mandatory in every division should be the best guy, whether he
has some plastic wba "super" belt or not. ggg just needs to throw that
thing in the garbage already and become the mandatory for all the titles.
once he wins the next one, throw that in the garbage and become the #1
mandatory for all the titles again.

Taylor is top 5 ??? Based on a win over a one-legged guy ? That's just ridiculous.

Dropping belts will not do GGG any good. That will not force Cotto, Quillin, Taylor or anybody else fight him. Rubio was mandatory, Korobov was mandatory, and champions just ignored them or dropped their belts. GGG himself was mandatory before, and no champion fought him.

I don't know who I'd favor at this point. Both are very washed up. Sergio is pushing forty, has no legs left, and just took a hellacious beating from Cotto. Taylor has kept a little busier but is fighting weak opposition and may have more trouble making weight.

Soliman's skills are pitiful? You apparently didn't think so before picking him over Taylor?

Good fight between two hasbeens who are washed up, hopefully they'll both KO one another in a double KO fight and we won't have to watch either of them ruin themselves any further.

I was banking on a brain bleed from JT. It was an anti-JT pick. Not a pro-Sam pick. Sam stinks but decided to really stink and not even throw any punches. All he had to do was get aggressive and he would've put Taylor on the defensive and made him gunshy. He beat himself.

how are you supposed to be aggressive when you have a knee injury?

soliman is of course not an attractive fighter but he is not easy to beat when he is not injured. of course GGG or Peak Martinez blow him away but most other guys have at least a hard night with him.

Nah, Soliman was a little leery because Taylor is very strong. If Sam got into a punchiest, he would have gotten KO'ed by something wicked. As the fight moved on, Taylor was already starting to land the 1-2 to the top of Soliman's head, where as earlier in the fight that punch was missing completely.

I'm not going to count JT out against anyone at 160 besides GGG. There is some illogical overrating of the 160 pound fighters going on if you think that Taylor doesn't have a goos chance against everyone (except GGG). Seriously, Peter Quillin is a legit choice for #2 in the division and some of you think JT doesn't have a shot. Crazy.

Are you sure Soliman had a leg injury or did he merely come to the U.S. for the biggest payday of his career and take a orchestrated plunge?

Of all those reputed knockdowns, did anyone actually see Taylor throw a punch that landed?

I'd pick Taylor now and in their prime I'd bet the house on Taylor.

My bet is that you don't have a house (anymore).
