On his IFL interviews, Hearn constantly talks of getting the best deals for his fighters. Regarding Hennessy's offer, that's a massive purse for him and Quigg to turn down. Quigg would rather face someone ranked a lot lower for a lot less money.

Exactly, why are people not giving Eddie stick. If Mick has offered 400k for Quigg to fight on channel 5 against Galahad then it should happen. IMO there is no way Quigg is earning that much with Matchroom hence why he is fighting 3-4 times a year.

If the Galahad offer was a straight-up, no options showdown on 6 Dec 14, in Dubai, for c.£400K, I don't see how, from Quigg's POV, the scheduled encounter with TBA on 22 Nov 14 is reason enough for the fight not to be made.

+1

Also thought Agbeko was announced as the opponent on Sky but now seems to be listed as a TBA.

Listen to Eddie interview

It can only be Shingo Wake based on what he said

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m7qEH_MlPRQ

He's top 10 boxrec and top 10 in all the organisations.

The IBF haven't updated their ratings in quite a while now but I think after the Periban thing I'v given up on taking any notice of these cryptic clues that get bandied about. I think actually Wake was missing from one of the governing bodies ratings (I couldn't spot anyone who was top 6 or 7 with all of them) but the only other names that seemed high in almost all of them were Hugo Ruiz and Rey Vargas. I don't know what happened to this Agbeko fight as that was actually listed not just by boxrec but by Sky Sports.

Edit - Finished watching the interview now. Seems he has dropped the Agbekbo fight because he has found a higher ranked guy, and ranked higher on boxrec.

Have the WBO put him back in? There was an angry article on ringnews24 about how Wake was owed an apology for being randomly dropped from the rankings

Ah, just checked, no he's not:

Not sure what to make of Wake. Watched a bit of him today on youtube and have watched a bit in the past and not sure exactly how good he is. He's lost 4 times i think. Anyway, he's got pretty fast hands and pretty quick feet and decent mobility and moves around the ring a lot which could cause Quigg headaches but he's also pretty hittable from what ive seen although he tries to box. Not sure if he hits hard enough to trouble Quigg either.

Oh noes, not the dreaded "he has a few losses so can't be that good" thing ;)

Yes, Wake has 4 losses 2 of them were by a POINT one the cards in 4 rounders, 1 came to a guy who beat WV2 (in what was by far the worst performance of Wake's career) and then a narrow loss to 2-time domestic title challenger. His power is developing along with his confidence, wasn't too long ago that he had 5KO's from 18 fights.

Watching him develop you'd notice that early in his career he has a lot of flaws that needed sorting but unlike in Japan they don't protect their prospect for 20 fights before having them in a competitive one. Their Rookie of the Year and B class tournaments are tough to get through but shouldn't see a fighter written off for a few early losses. Their system doesn't punish a loss like ours does, strangely.

It's quite possible that Quigg blows him away inside 2 or 3 rounds, if Wake's feet aren't quick enough to get him out of range, he's in trouble, because standing in front of Quigg with your hands down isn't clever unless you're Guillermo Rigondeaux. There's also the possibility that Quigg struggles to get to grips with the movement and southpaw stance, but I think he comes through in the end regardless, Wake doesn't look to have the power to put much of a dent into him and Quigg will keep coming forward all night. It may turn out like the Salinas fight, but with Quigg struggling early, rather than holding back for the later rounds. This fight shows the lack of depth in the division, Wake is probably top 10, so he's a decent opponent, especially by Quigg's standards, but looking for other potential opponents, outside the top 5 or 6, super bantamweight is very, very weak, there's a real shortage of credible opponents out there.

Those are all very solid points as id expect from you mate :) ..... I guess when i was looking at the losses it was also more in the sense of who they had come to. He hasnt really fought the top super-bantamweights in the world but he has 4 losses. I'm all for the japanese system though!

I think BP is overrating Wake and I doubt that Quigg has many problems beating him.

Our system doesn't punish losses, the public do. Rightly or wrongly, people like to see undefeated fighters, a defeat can lead to a drop off in ticket sales for a fighter, if they drop below the number needed to get fights at home, they either have to go on the road, or knock it on the head.

Agbeko was absolute garbage against Rigondeaux. Wake is a better opponent in my opinion.

For what it's worth...8 days ago Wake didn't know he was being linked to the fight...and had only read it one someones ameblo so if a deal has been made it's been made quickly...and he's not said much on it in the proceeding days. Usually when a fight is inked their blogs announce it weeks in advance (Kohei Oba released the date of his Randy Caballero fight and Ryuji Hara announced his fight with Kosei Tanaka)

Shame Martinez couldnt of been brought in but im guessing he needs more time to recover from the frampton fight before he could start a proper camp and have a decent prep to fight Quigg.

At the moment I would partially agree with you. But the fact remains that he is one of the best boxers pound-for-pound on the planet, and that sort of quality is definitely VERY marketable skills.

I've been reading that Rigo wants to come over to Britain if he does, he really will need to learn English. If he does, and with his skills he could be a big hit over here. Plus getting geographically closer to the fights that he wants.

I've seen plenty of videos of Quigg, Gallagher and Hearn bleating on that no-one will fight him.

Then they turn down a career-high purse to face a domestic rival.

"His next fight will be a big one..."... etc....etc...
