Whats the opinion on Joshua last night?

Undecided. Looking forward to seeing him in a test, although it's probably going to cost £15.95.

Joshua is the most exciting heavyweight prospect for over twenty years however...

...some are saying he's already up there with the very best in the division. I disagree with that.

He's an outstanding athlete and offensive force who can put punches together and finish a guy properly BUT he has a lot of learning to do yet to become the finished article. It takes time to learn the dark arts. Over the course of the next 12 months I'd feel confident putting him in with anybody ranked 16 or below in the BoxRec rankings but the Top 15 guys are for 2016 and beyond.

i thought he looked good ,put his shots together well didn't look robotic as he might of before . of course he was fighting a guy 6/7 inches shorter and he didn't look in the best shape but joshua did what he had to and got him out as quick as he could . i thought price looked a bit worried at ringside watching after his comments on them fighting each other .

I thought the same in regards to Price when Hearn was talking in the ring about an AJ v Price fight but at the moment I could see Price winning but next summer and if AJ keeps improving then I'd go for an AJ late stoppage

joshua is so wrong for price he's big fast and more fluid the price , if i was price i'd stop any talk about fighting joshua as it's a risky fight with very little to gain if price wins he's beat a novice and if he loses it's retirement time or he drops down to british title level rather than world title level

He is certainly becoming more relaxed hands a little low on occasions and chin a little up, thats not a problem if he doesn't get caught. He's getting quicker snapping out the punches. Youve got to be getting excited as this kid is going the distance.

i see lennox lewis live winning the european belt vs jean chanet and joshua impressed me more than lewis did that night , not saying he'll be as better but he's the most exciting big guy out there now we should have a good journey with him

I'm still on the fence, there's definitely more of the Bruno than Lewis about him. Doesn't look as robotic as Bruno but he's not lithe like Lewis was. Still a bit tight and stiff. He's obviously lifting weights.
There was a moment in the second when he had Bakhtov against the ropes and Bakhtov was firing back, Joshua looked a bit clueless, just put his hands up and stood there. Needs to learn to use his size and weight up close, clinch, tie up etc.

i think it's hard to compare joshua and lennox simply because lewis had been to two olympics and had a lot more amateur experience than joshua had when he turned pro , lennox was a seasoned boxer where as joshua is still a novice ,i don't see the bruno comparison myself frank never threw shots like joshua did last night frank was very left right left hook .

He is without doubt improving with each fight; his speed, accuracy and his jab are very impressive; he is becoming less robotic, and is gaining confidence each time I see him. The only question mark for me is his natural power; he has not really flattened an opponent yet or rendered anyone unconscious, rather he overwhelms them with his speed/skill.

Spot on although I would say Joshua is the most exciting prospect since Wlad which is more like 15 years

I hope Sprott pulls out. Would rather him fight someone durable so he can showcase skills and learn as the rounds go on. Kevin Johnson or TT spring to mind.

The beauty of boxing is a superstar will always come along eventually and clean up any mess.

We were blessed in the 90's and early 00's with Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe and Lewis all coming along at a similar time. They were potentially the best group of heavyweights ever and could have eclipsed the 70's chaps had things panned out differently ( basically had Bowe fought Lewis, there was a trilogy there between them two I'm sure of it )

Is Joshua the next superstar heavyweight? I hope so. He has the potential. Fingers crossed a few more come through in the next 2-3 years.

Of course I am not wanting to sound critical of AJ as this is decent level opposition for his 9th fight and he has done nothing wrong in his career so far

but Eddie will sell this for more than it is, putting it top of the bill, talk about the world ranking he gains with this meaningless title and point to a guy who has been in with some top opponents and never been blown away.


thankfully AJ still stayed as humble as ever, has his feet on the ground, will work hard to continue the impressive progress and wont start talking himself up too much

long may it continue and hopefully he proves himself against bigger and better tests as he goes

I was comparing his build and stiffness/flexibility to Bruno and Lewis respectively. Joshua's clearly a weightlifter like Bruno was.

Absolutely, and when he heavyweight scene is interesting the whole sport gets a lift.

He's got a very nasty edge to him in the ring, which is exactly what he needs. Looks like he knows he is far stronger, faster and simply better than his opponent and enjoys inflicting damage. This mean streak will take him all the way.

I'd like to see him in with Seth Mitchell next.

It's just nice to see a heavyweight in shape who can actually throw more than 6 punches a round without needing a 2 week holiday. Good luck to the guy. If they want safe rounds in the bank then they need to call Kingpin after Sprott.

Wouldn't hurt to get him on a couple of undercards in the states either, splattering what's left of Shannon Briggs would be a low risk fight that would at least create some publicity. As a sporting contest of course it's not exactly something you want to see as Briggs is ancient and will be gassed walking to the ring, but it'll expose Joshua to some interesting pre fight stuff with a nutter.

I agree some will hate a fight with Briggs but I wouldn't mind. Would expose him to pre fight antics.
