Anthony Joshua vs John Mcdermott ???

Post by TopGun »

Surely this would make for the next best step, English title on the line and it would be a step up in calibre. He beat Skelton quite well in his last fight.

McDermott beat Skelton, not Sprott.

McDermott would be a good opponent for Joshua, but it would be better if McDermott had a comeback fight first as he's been inactive for over 18 months now.

AJ would take him out early just like Price did.there's nothing to learn there.I like the Lucas Browne fight,it would give Joshua rounds and Browne is heavy handed/similar size.It offers all the questions that need answering but is it too dangerous at this point and for little money compared to other next level fighters.

Would like to see Joshua v Ian Lewison, would be a good, solid test.

McDermott should be stripped of his title as he is so inactive. Joshua would nail him in three rounds only Chisora and Fury are on Joshuas level in the UK now. Joshua should go in with a tough operator in his next few fights to get a few rounds in he doesn't need refs stopping his opponents early either.

Browne gets stopped in one too I think. Easy to hit plodder. Josh walks through him.

I have to fully agree here with the UK comment. There is plenty of fodder in europe but I would like to see him fight a big mouthed American who has some hype maybe a 15 fight pro who has a half decent record and a punch.

someone like this kid

Surely the only thing joshua can do at the minute is really hard sparring against top level fighters otherwise he chances ending up like price.

The only type of fighter that will cope with his power early are fringe world class fighters. The problem is though that he's not had anyone who can defend and fight back so bad defensive habits may have crept in which better fighters can expose

Surely they will be looking at winning and possibly claiming outright the Lonsdale now?

Probably not the best route for his development assuming Chisora, Fury, Price etc see it as beneath them, but it seems an obvious one. I don't mind the idea of Lewison.

It might only take him 4 months or so to win it outright. It won't hold him back.

John's inactivity is ridiculous, mind. I know people have confronted him on it and he just shrugs it off. I think he's lost the passion for competing.

Exactly. He's got a good enough job that he doesn't need to go on the road losing for pay, and nobody wants to build a show around him. That leaves a situation where somebody has to pay enough money to get a competitive John in the ring to fight their own investment. Why do that? Who needs him?

McDermott disgracefully bottled it against Skelton in their first fight when Skelton was on a roll......so I hate to think how he'd react if Joshua was staring across the ring at him. Truth is McDermott would never take this fight for the money on offer. They'd have to pay him a kings ransom to come and be battered inside a round.

I'm being straight up, that's what he was doing last time I heard. When he first turned over, Ian Darke used to point it out that John was an artist pretty much every fight.

If him and Mick Hennessy teamed up there would be a huge ruck over whether something should be 'sculpted' or 'caaaaaaarved out of stone!'

Mcdermot would just be more cannon fodder,
