Bad news, Emanuel was a very good boxer. I hope he's fit enough to come through this and recover.

Damn sorry to hear this. Hope he somehow gets through this, but between getting shot in the head & being on life support might just be easier if he didnt sadly. Definitely a fun guy to watch in his day which is about the best thing you can say about a guy who never made it to the elite level.

Realy sad and shocked about this, he is my favourite boxer bar Ali and I check for news on him very regularly and watch all his old fights. Hope he pulls through and can recover fully.

I love it when someone's favorite is not the usual favorites.

Hope he recovers somehow. Augustus's last four fight of his career were against undefeated fighters.

He's definitely one of my favourite all time boxers - his record be damned, he always entertained and never backed down.

Hoping for for a full recovery.

This sadly made me think of how Letterlough went too.

I really hope that he somehow makes it through this very sad situation. Does anyone know how serious this is? obviously i know that life support is not good, but what have they said? chances of making it etc???

I'm hearing through my contacts that it is very bad, not looking good for Emanuel.
One of the nicest guys I ever met, hung out with and called a friend.

I always felt like he got robbed vs Ward in Micky's backyard but I guess the hometown favorite always/usually gets the edge, my he have a speedy recovery.

Augustus' breathtaking brawl with Ward is still probably the greatest bout ever presented on ESPN 2.
Will always remember referee Smoger hugging them both, almost tearfully, at the final bell, something you rarely see from a third man.

Best wishes for a recovery by Augustus.

I was lucky enough to see his last fight in person. It was at the Silverdome against Vernon Paris. Paris was local, undefeated and had the crowd on his side (including me) at the start of the fight. Burton didn't do too much dancing, BUT HE WON THE FIGHT in my opinion and in the opinion of the crowd who booed when the decision went Paris's way.

I'd second this, minus the Ali part. Loved watching him fight, pure entertainment. Very sad news, and hope he pulls through.

A case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. An all too common occurrence in these times.
