archie moore vs tommy jordan.

Post by madmarvin »

I noticed that on this site, that it shows a record of archie moore vs tommy Jordan, http://boxrec.com/show_display.php?show_id=506585 the record also says..

"Opponent not Frank Lindsay as previously displayed. Moore's weight not announced. Source: The Mercury (Hobart, AU"

the fact is, tommy Jordan didn't exist, he was in fact frank lindsay, my uncle.

some interesting reading can be found here from original newspaper clips, note that warrants for the arrest of archie moore himself had been drawn up..

thanks for that i don't see what the fuss was with a court case, people still got to see a fight, a false name was used but it probably happened a lot, but most were there to see moore anyway, there was a war on at the time, there might have been a lot of fighters unavailable due to fighting tojo's mates, frank lindsay was killed in new guinea fighting for his country.

here's some details on him from the army, note the day of death, it's 7 weeks before his last fight in the records on here, don't know what the story is there, I was born 18 years after his death, I remember reading a diary on his career, but the last time I read it was over 40 years ago and I don't remember much, I don't remember hearing of his alias name "bill mcnair" either...

unfortunately the diary has been lost for a couple of decades now.

I checked the Sydney papers and the last fight on the record and the date is correct -- he lost by DQ, though, not TKO. They refer to his prior bouts so it is the same guy.

As to his actual date of death I did not find anything.

nope, the death date 06/02/43 is accurate, my sister was born on the same day 5 years later..

no doubt some guy used my uncles name in order to get a fight, probably already had a couple that week, and needed an alias or something, just to make money, as for referring to prior bouts, it stands to reason that they used his actual record..
