Nonito Donaire vs Nicholas Walters

Post by lefty »

How do you see it going people? I havent seen it talked about much unless i've just missed it which is possible lol. I know that Donaire hasnt looked the best in his last few fights but I still think I favour him over Walters who when ive watched him has looked a little on the slow side and clumsy. Can clearly punch though.

I've seen a lot of people picking Walters. Honestly, I had not seen the guy until some days ago when I pulled him up on youtube. He looks to be very good. However, his style plays into Donaire's style. He is aggressive and hits hard. But relative to Donaire, he is slow, and throws a bit wide. This is a dangerous combination going up against the quickness and sharp countering attack of Nonito. I am picking Donaire by KO. Walters is going to help him achieve this by coming in wide.

good fight.

Donaire wont need to go looking for walters and to be honest may still be the heavier handed of the two.

I favopur Donaire wide on points with a knockdown a piece.

I think Walters wins by KO as he seems better suited to Featherweight than Donaire. But in a foto I saw on boxing scene in a pre fight presser Walters looked scared in the stared down Donaire did not.

I think Donaire's power won't have the impact it did at the lower weights, and the fact Nonito doesn't work behind the jab just fires power shots is going to hurt him. I'm leaning towards Walters.

As much as love watching GGG this fights the one im most looking forward to tonight,I still think Donaire has enough left to win this fight, although clearly not the force he was before the defeat to Rigondeaux he's still got too much know how for Walters IMO

Nonito wont have the power up at FW and id be very surprised if he can stop Nicholas but i'll expect him to win a close decision, maybe even controversial

Yes he was a flat footed beast with punching power especially in his left hook, but many of his last opponents where older than him and smaller fighters than him, in this fight the tables are turned he is the older smaller fighter, I have it a close to 50 -50 fight due to Donaires experience. I wouldn't be surprised to see Donaire try to Blitz Walters out of their in the first 3 rounds and then find a reason to quit if things do go his way after that.

Walters ain't anything fancy, but he's aggressive and he can wack. Arum mentioned that he'd like to match the winner of this fight with Loma, and at this point I'd take Walters.

Congratulations to Walters. He looks a bit ungainly at times but he gets the job done and going on this post fight interview he seems a very nice guy. A lot of sportsmanship here towards Donaire.

Fuuuuuuuuck spoke to soon.

Oh well Nonito is done as a top fighter he relied on nothing but his power and that just isn't gonna cut it always.

Walters is a beast but Nonito had him hurt badly he just could set anything up anymore.

Walters v Gonzalez another bombs away war.

I was hoping Walters would win. That's an easier unification fight for Lomachenko. I didn't expect a stoppage that early, but Walters dominated with the jab and countered nicely to finish the fight.

I think Walters may be tougher for Loma. He's not as fast or skilled as Donaire and that could mean more openings for Loma, but he's notably more aggressive, punches comparably hard at the weight, and is typically on the front-foot. I think Loma still has significant problems with being active enough under pressure and I can see him being put into a shell against Walters, while against Donaire I think he'd get a bout more at his desired pace.

You don't actually support Ukrainians, you just hate them less than you do Russians. Your American hero Gary Russell Jr got humiliated when he tried to box with one of the real talents of the sport. America fading fast. Just another Ukrainian victory. :(

I've been wrong enough times to not boast about being right, but I think every fight fan should have seen that Donaire was done or on a steep decline. Donaire was being outboxed by Vic Darchinyan. I also think he would have lost to Vetyeka if the fight continued.

Donaire has pulled a Pavlik. When he was winning, the world was perfect. As soon as he lost, there was no refocusing or change in plans.

But you can't downplay Donaire in his prime. Very good career.

Impressive win by Walters. I picked Donaire by close decision. Vic D. also thought Donaire would win, but I guess I should have watched Walters fight first. Blind, foolish pick I guess.

Any chance we will see Walters vs Rigo?

I think Walters KO's Rigo at 126 because I don't think Rigo has the power to keep Walters off of him. The fight I would like to see is Lomachenko vs Walters, I would favor Lomachenko at about 3-1 favorite,I think Loma has mad skills and much faster hand speed than Walters, this fight would be Lomas skills and hand speed vs Walters will, arm length and conditioning would be an epic fight.
With Styles making fights, I think Rigo has a better chance against Loma than against Walters.

Rigo would be a lot harder to hit than Donaire was though.

I dont hate Ukrainians & I dont hate Russians either. I do hate Putin & other polarizing figures, but not nationalities & common people like you or me.

I'm sure if we were to meet on the street someday (without you knowing who I am) we would probably get along just fine. Probably have a great boxing conversation, etc. But you've got it in your head that I am some "evil Yank" & the mere fact that you would be so obsessed that a mere positive comment about Nicholas Walters stirs up in you vitriol like "anti-Euro POS" shows me you've got deep-seated personal issues that I wont even attempt to help you work through, even if I was able.

So feel free to have the last hateful word amigo. I have no ill-will toward you.
Classy response :)

Walters might just bring some more spark into the featherweight division. If a few of the top guys at 122lbs also move up, we'll have a very fun division.
