Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
The debate has been on going and now that Ward has become inactive people are starting to turn their attention towards Golovkin. Personally, I think Ward is too slick for Golovkin and he out points him. What do you guys think?

Golovkin K.O.
Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
Easy work for Golovkin. He's skilled enough to get his shots home, which for most world class fighters to come up against Ward it's been difficult to land anything clean such is Ward's craft in stinking the joint out.
Golovkin however, just look his set-up ability combined with his masterful footwork. The stuff he does is subtle but it's beautiful. He set Rubio up with several hard left hooks to the body where he was using his left shoulder/elbow to nudge up Rubio's guard to then thump home the left hook. In the KO he did the same thing, but Rubio knew it was coming and just slightly lowered his guard and tucked in his elbows, exposing his temple/forehead. So Golovkin switched upstairs and landed a pinpoint lefthook right to the temple of Rubio, giving him just and inch of space to drive home a right uppercut. From there Rubio was on unsteady legs and that corkscrew left hand that finished it, although was sensational, Rubio was a sitting duck by the point from the previous set-up work.
Ward neutralising slow brawlers like Abraham or Froch is 1 thing, but against the pedigree & skill of Golovkin is another. Golovkin is as well schooled as anybody in the pro game with his amatuer background which i'm sure boasts KO wins over the likes of Lucian Bute - a bigger man than Ward.
You remove Golovkins Cruiserweight punching power and you have a close fight which Ward may well edge out the decision, but there is no way Ward with his below-average chin is going to hear a final bell against Golovkin.

Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
The naturally bigger man will win. And when the bigger man also has the better defence it's almost a lock for me.
In a p4p sense there is nothing between them. But if GGG moves up he's at a huge disadvantage. Ward knows it. It's why he made Dawson come down in weight.

That's not a bad post. People forget how good a boxer Golovkin is, his knockout power naturally dominates peoples attention. Golovkin's amateur record was outstanding and he does things in the ring that the untrained eye just doesn't see.
I'm not saying Golovkin would win inside 4 rounds but eventually he stops Ward.
Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
I know it's not the same but in the amateurs GGG stopped Lucian Bute, easily beat Andy Lee and also beat Andre Dirrell and Korobov. He has great pedigree and is much more than just a puncher.fergusg wrote:This is actually a very interesting comment!Ricky_ wrote:Ward neutralising slow brawlers like Abraham or Froch is 1 thing, but against the pedigree & skill of Golovkin is another.

Has Gennady Golovkin ever defeated an opponent with the pedigree of Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch?
Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
I believe he pastes them both quite easily.fergusg wrote:This is actually a very interesting comment!Ricky_ wrote:Ward neutralising slow brawlers like Abraham or Froch is 1 thing, but against the pedigree & skill of Golovkin is another.

I think G's critics look at him as some type of one dimensional brawler. The man is the complete package. Froch has stated that he would steer clear of him. This speaks volumes in itself.

Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
Good post, don't think GGG gets to him that quickly though. Ward is going to go through his full repertoire of fouling to try and upset G's rhythm, which will make it ugly for a while. Then when the ref finally catches up with it all he'll be left without any weapons, and will be stopped sometime around round 8.Ricky_ wrote:Easy work for Golovkin. Then Diddy will accuse G of being on PEDs and Ward's litigation period having eroded his skills.
Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
depends on the ref and weight class
at middleweight: ggg crushes ward badly, because ward would be a a bit dyhardated and gggs power is for real
at super middleweight: right now ward uds ggg. maybe a somewhat more experienced gg would win at sm
but the ref plays an important role in this fight.
if there is a ref in it who has nothing against crabbing, holding hugging, holding while punching, simply dirty boxing and lets all excessive go, than ward uds ggg
but if is a ref who goes by the rules and deductes points for excessive hugging and holding than ward would easily have 2-3 point deductions, along with gg winning by his own skills.
tough contest.

Andre wins a 8-4 type decision.
Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
Ward KO1 and if Ward is "dyhardated" he wins 120-104

Obviously it would take place at 168, Ward couldn't make Middleweight and suggest he would even try is absurd, he was a Middleweight in the am's as a teenager and was competing as a Light Heavyweight as an amateur before turning pro.

Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
The way how some people are dismissing Ward is quite startling.
OK, he might not be everyone's cup of tea, but the man is a damn good fighter & it would shock me to the core if even the admittedly heavy handed Golovkin could blow him away easily.
Make no mistake, this would be a competitive fight, especially as it would take place at 168.

Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
I can understand why though at times as he does get hit a bit too much. I think a part of that though is also because he has so much confidence in his chin having never been on the canvas and also because he's always looking to push the fight. I think he probably could box a bit more cautiously if he wanted to and actually did so against Curtis Stevens to an extent I thought.Impractical Poster wrote:I think G's critics look at him as some type of one dimensional brawler. Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
Yes, it will be a competitive fight, but we know that Andre's chin is not great, so I doubt that he will survive for 12 rounds. He will probably be even winning on points at the time when he is stopped.
Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
He competed as a light heavyweight as an amateur at the olympics to make way so Dirrell could box at middleweight and also because he was good enough to fight out of his natural weight class.Ricky_ wrote:Chepppaaa wrote:depends on the ref and weight class

If Floyd was to fight more aggressively, he would get hit more as well. But he is primarily a defensive minded counter puncher.
Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
Is Ward's chin really that bad in truth though? He's been down once to Darnell Boone who in turn flattened stevenson and dropped Kovalev aswell so he has form for dropping good fighters even though he's a journeyman. Ward has fought the best of the super middleweights after that and never been dropped or significantly rocked from what i can remember.ikorolev wrote:Yes, it will be a competitive fight, but we know that Andre's chin is not great, so I doubt that he will survive for 12 rounds. If Andre wears kryptonite gloves I could see this & if that's allowed I wanna change my answer.Othro wrote:Ward KO1 and if Ward is "dyhardated" he wins 120-104
Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
Powerful guys who fought Ward allowed him to play his hit and clinch game. None of them had a style relentless enough to not let Andre play his game. Golovkin has that style and skills to not give Andre breathing room.lefty wrote:Is Ward's chin really that bad in truth though? Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
The only KO win Andre had in the last 5 years was over dehydrated Dawson. An idea that he can KO an elite fighter with a good chin at his comfort weight is just ridiculous.ReggieDiggs wrote:If Andre wears kryptonite gloves I could see this & if that's allowed I wanna change my answer.Othro wrote:Ward KO1 and if Ward is "dyhardated" he wins 120-104

Re: Golovkin vs Ward. Who wins?
I like GGG on points. GGG has too much skill and aggression. He'll hurt Ward to the head or body and make him think survival instead of offense.
