being short sighted

can anyone tell me if being short sighted ,will have a effect on someone passing there pro medical.also how tough is it to pass the medical what do they test you for.?

I'm not experienced in this at all but I'm almost sure that being short sighted automatically fails you if it's to a certain extent. I wonder what would happen if you had laser eye surgery though.

it definatly fails you

you have to have lazer eye surgery

strangley enough thou if you have had lazer eye surgery then you cannot box amatuer

YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHAT LASER YOU GET AS 1 OF THEM DOESNT ALLOW YOU TO BOX,BUT IM SHORT SIGHTED AND I PASSED MY MEDICAL.
THEY ARE NOT AS STRICT AS PPL SAY BUT NECESSARY TO UPKEEP THE SAFETY OF THE SPORT.

What about if you have a lazy eye?

My sight through left eye is very blurry, but my sight overall is very good, its only bad when I close my right eye. Will this have an affect on medical?

i found out i was short sighted when i started to learn how to drive ,when the instructer ask me to read the number plate. couldnt make it out .but over all eye sight good only at far distances i struggle.it as no effect when im boxing at all ,never taking a standing in 50 plus am fights.turning pro next year not sure if i should get the lasser treatment before i turn pro or wait and see if i pass the medical.been told it is straight forward operation and very sucseful,in a delema.

go for your sight test first,i would suggest you apply just now so you have plenty time.you can apply without signing a contract till later anyway.

A friend of mine had the laser eye surgery and she (yep!) fights as an amateur.
I've looked into it myself as i'm short sighted (-3.75)
The 2 types of operation. 1 is where you have a flap cut in the lense and the laser reshapes the cornea underneath. As the cutting starts deeper inside it doesn't have to cut so much. This is the more modern method called LASIK.

The other older method cuts with the laser right from the surface of the eye and takes longer to recover from but i think this is the method that you need to use if you want to continue with contact sports.

The flap is reattached in the LASIK procedure but it's never as strong as before. My friend had a fight where the flaps were dislodged and she had a scary few days in Moorfields eye hospital. She's fine now and uses eye drops before a bout.

I belive that Larry Holmes fought Evander Holifield wearing a contact lens in his right eye... not advisable really though...
