the bst light heavyweight evr
There have been some great light heavyweights Bob Foster, Michael spinks, Archie Moore, that is just three of the best but imo the bst light heavyweight of alltime is Michael Moorer what a fighter southpaw a think he would have beat any light heavyweight past or present an remember all the great light heavyweights from the late 80s an 90s some greats an plenty of hall of famers but for me Moorer was the best in every department but nvr got the defining fights, alot of people say he can't be considered to be the bst but he beat evrbody in the division an nobody wanted to fight him that's why he jumped up to HW if only he had moved up to Cruiserweight he would have definitely been a three weight world champion like to here your veiws
Re: the bst light heavyweight evr
Ezzard Charles beat the best of his era and although never won the Lt Heavy title he won the heavyweight title from the faded greatest, Joe Louis. A great boxer puncher, master at feinting with great footwork and defence.
Ask boxbuzz, he will tell you Ezzard had Archie Moores number.

Re: the bst light heavyweight evr
In order to be the greatest you have to atleast beat a good fighter . Name one lightheavyweight Moorer beat.
Re: the bst light heavyweight evr
It's extremely plausible that along with the three that you named, the likes of Ezzard Charles, Bob Fitzsimmons, Billy Conn, Gene Tunney, Harry Greb, Joey Maxim, Jimmy Bivins & John Henry Lewis all get in ahead of Moorer.dougie-boyjr wrote:There have been some great light heavyweights Bob Foster, Michael spinks, Archie Moore, that is just three of the best but imo the bst light heavyweight of alltime is Michael Moorer
And that's not even mentioning Tommy Loughran, Maxie Rosenbloom, Sam Langford, Matthew Muhammad, Dwight Qawi, Virgil Hill, Philly Jack O'Brien, Willie Pastrano ---
I didn't even realise that I named as many fighter's as I did there. As a matter of fact, I would have Moorer away down on my list. I'm not even sure he makes my top 20.

ezzard Charles was the greatest light heavy, his record speaks for itself. what other light heavy could
go 15rds with rocky Marciano, cut rockys nose off and almost have the ref stop it. show me another
light heavy that could give Marciano all he wanted. and like the last poster said bust up archie moore 3 times.
its Charles.............
Re: the bst light heavyweight evr
For me, it would be Michael Spinks also, but truthfully, Ezzard Charles, or even John Henry Lewis would be a strong pick.tiny_acres wrote:Michael Spinks.I just enjoyed him at lightheavy.

Michael Spinks was a special 175lber indeed.
I used to think Bob Foster was the man at LHW, but I now feel that Spinks & few others would have taken him, although they would have caught hell trying.

Very hard to say... considering we have so many weight classes today... Jake LaMotta, for example, carved out a big chunk of his fights at the LHW limit... had he existed today he'd of been a SMW... there's alot of great fighters at around 168-175 who one could argue was probably the greatest LHW of all time... Some guys get forgotten about or passed over in such discussions--- take for example Marvin Camel, the first Cruiserweight champion. As a LHW he was something special, and in my view probably would of won the LHW crown as well had he pursued it. Michael Moorer was also a very talented LHW, and who knows, could of been the greatest of all time had he stayed there.
Sam Langford, one could also argue, was the greatest boxer from 130 pounds to 200 pounds... could of picked up a title in any of those divisions... so who knows how to really measure his worth overall... same goes for someone like Bob Fitzsimmons, and to a lesser degree Harry Greb who defeated alot of LHW's and HW's... But if one were to ask me, who is the greatest LHW of all time... I think it comes down to a three way tie: Charles, Tunney and Moore. I'd also throw in Billy Conn as an honorable mention, who probably on any given night of defeated those three, or at least won a fight or two in a series.

Spinks is over-rated at 175; his best wins there are over Qawi and Eddie, and I don't think he looked particularly impressive in either one of them. By the time he fought Lopez and Johnson they were used up from all of the wars they'd fought. He'd barely make my top 10; I'd rank Langford, Charles, Tunney, Moore, Johnson, Loughran, Lewis, Gibbons and Dillon over him, and Levinsky is close.

No surprise there . I lean toward Spinks. He fought in a great era and was clearly the best. That rarely happens in any weight class. Spinks is a fighter that you really have to study hard to appreciate.
You can make a good case for Charles, Tunney, and Moore as well. The problem with Langford is that we don't know how big he was for many of his fights.
Foster, Johnson, and Loughran are right behind them. There are many guys right behind them that are pretty close.
